@Bossentuppen In 1997 england banned handguns. The british government confiscated and destroyed all legaly owned handguns. By 1999 the use of handguns in crime had gone up 40%. England had a lower crime rate then the US but their violent crime rate has been catching up with our since the 97 ban. BTW the swiss can legally carry guns and in half the cantons they don't even need a permit to do so. The swiss have more gun rights then we americans do and a much lower gun violence rate to boot.

However 10000+ Americans are shot and killed (counting for more than half total homicides each year and you ARE more likely to be shot by someone you know. More than half of the gun deaths in the US are suicides. The intentional kill rate is fairly low, actually, considering our population. Lower than the knife crimes in the UK. Lower than those killed in cars or by the flu yearly. We have problems, but this is not a major one.
Yeah, the gangs are certainly an issue. The gang problems stem from other societal issues. Even with gun control they'd still have guns. Your average citizen that carries a gun have almost non-existent incidents of using their firearms in crime or other times. I know it seems strange, but an armed populace is a polite one. I'm from Sweden and here we are not allowed to carry guns at all... well, except if we're hunting or are cops and such.
We have a very low crime rate here but you don't. Some people would say that it means gun controll is good but I rather think that since you have such a large crime rate you need your guns more than we do.
It's too late now, if you did it earlier it might have worked but not as it is now.

@Bossentuppen In 1997 england banned handguns. The british government confiscated and destroyed all legaly owned handguns. By 1999 the use of handguns in crime had gone up 40%. England had a lower crime rate then the US but their violent crime rate has been catching up with our since the 97 ban. BTW the swiss can legally carry guns and in half the cantons they don't even need a permit to do so. The swiss have more gun rights then we americans do and a much lower gun violence rate to boot.

However 10000+ Americans are shot and killed (counting for more than half total homicides each year and you ARE more likely to be shot by someone you know. Crimes of violence are about equal per capita but ones that end in death are much lower.

Are you familiar with the philosophy behind the 2nd Amendment? It's sole purpose is to ensure that we have the means to take down the government.
It's not about "defending" yourself, or hunting, and it's not about taking part in some fetish.

Nonsense. The government is not going to end up helping people because this economy is not going to survive. We are already overtaxed (the income tax is unconstitutional and not a law) and taking from others to pay for some is tyranny. A true scientific comparison would require a society to ban guns and then see what happens to crime, or to start allowing guns and see what happens. You can't compare europe to us, because each society is different. Learn the scientific method before you try to use science to push your fascist agenda of taking away guns. Australia banned guns and total violence went way up including gun violence.

It doesn't matter who put it together - he just gets his data from the sources he lists. Just because the media says we have one of the worst crime rates does not make it so. More than half of the gun deaths in the US are suicides. The intentional kill rate is fairly low, actually, considering our population. Lower than the knife crimes in the UK. Lower than those killed in cars or by the flu yearly. We have problems, but this is not a major one.

I found the stuff interesting about how most homocide victims are gang-related and that most of these victims had previous arrests.

Yeah, the gangs are certainly an issue. The gang problems stem from other societal issues. Even with gun control they'd still have guns. Your average citizen that carries a gun have almost non-existent incidents of using their firearms in crime or other times. I know it seems strange, but an armed populace is a polite one. When you have a gun and criminal intentions, a disarmed set of victims is just ripe for the picking. Gun control takes away the ability to defend oneself from outlaws.

Well, I personally don't like guns ...for myself ... but I can't help to feel ... especially in my neighborhood ... I live in a nice neighborhood .. that's not the problem .. it's the neighborhood next to mine. Well, I secretly wish that when these armed criminals approached a victim, that that victim would whip out a gun and shoot.
I've only begun to feel that way of late ... I don't think you can "rehabilitate" a career "terrorist." They'll only continue to commit more crimes.

I can understand your dislike, however maybe you ought to get someone to take you to a firing range so you can lose some of that dislike. As for the shooting thing, people with concealed carry licenses are empowered to stop criminals should they witness certain crimes (the more violent crimes) against themselves or others. Things like assault, kidnapping, rape, etc.
