On all the live versions I have looked at, the singer is always lipsyncing...

I am pretty sure there was only one version used everywhere. A kind of one take hit wonder...

You are right, also the synths were always backed up. Alphaville was so bad instrumentalists they couldn't perform live. This is fact and not a joke, i like their music a lot.

@divyx Okay, so if you're saying Alphaville were playing instruments so badly, then could you compose anything at least in a half as good as e.g. SLaM? Their music is simply fabulous! And why the playback? MG's explained it in one interview from 1987 like: "Maybe you know that every song is a story in our mind. We tell the stories with the help of the music, and if we go on a tour we'll want to bring it all onto the stage, so the sound and sight would be very special"

Read Marian Golds interview, i personally like Alphas music alot. Marian says "In the 80's we simply were too bad instrumentalists, as that we could have expected our skill to an audience - we thought in any case. Alphaville was originally a pure studio project.".

@divyx Okay, I could have been wrong, my dear :) I think I'm just a bit oversensitive( when sb says sth not particularly positive about Alphaville, but that's because I adore them. Recently my teacher told me sth like:" Oh, what the passion can do to the people!" That's because i brought a Boy George doll to my school. Although everyone laughted, stared at me and called with words such as idiot, moron, I just adore his music almost as much as Alphaville's, so I don't want to hide with it :)

@VDildo : I understand u I adore Alphaville too, but when I look at current videos, it makes me kind of sad... He's so diffrent now than in the 80's. Certainly he's older, but I mean the hole thing around the band. There's just Marian left and it aint the same without Frank, Ricky and Bernhard. If I had the chance to see them live, I think I wouldn't go because I wanna keep the "illusion" of a good looking, young man playing synthie pop with 2 friends, even if this is just a "memory" of the 80s
