I've forgotten how much I loved this song. The full 6 minutes was like an aural roller-coaster, with me in tears toward the end. There are no words to describe the genius of Joe Hisaishi.
@TheRedKnightOfPain Most of the time, the piece is transposed to Bb trumpet since the piece is written in a concert key of C....so it just makes playing what is written on the page easier
@TheRedKnightOfPain The concert key is probably C, so transcribing it is easier; the trumpeter may also be more familiar with a C trumpet, you never know.
Joe Hisaishi is my motivation and inspiration to keep playing the piano, nowadays. I learned everything that I wanted to play, but as soon as I hear a composition from Joe, It makes me wanna learn more.
I just watched Castle in the Sky. Im 19, but that didint stop me from falling in love with the movie and the characters. Next up im rewatching My Neighbor Totoro. Last time I watched it I was like 9.
You should do your research. Jonathan Swift, the author of the book 'Gulliver's Travels', named the flying city Laputa on purpose. It's commonly believed that he knew what La Puta meant and therefore, he named the floating city as a hidden little joke. He was known for being a satyrical author like that, the idea of the story is what is amazing, who cares about the name of the city, this is one of the greatest movies of all time.
@Kirasiah Yeah i know what you mean. ._. I live in a border town and when we where going to play this in an ensemble, we all started to laugh. :P Regardless of that, this is still piece and a nice movie.
This is such a wonderful piece. I could listen to it again and again and never get tired of it. The best part for me was around 6 min in when you see Hisaishi's expressions on his face. You can really tell that he's poured his heart and soul into every note and you can see the joy it brings him to hear it, just as it was brought to me and, I'm sure, the rest of you.
anyone else notice the little hisses that keep popping up? it's really annoying and I don't think it's my speakers because it happens on my headphones too.
when I listen to this weird whispery "Shoops" keep happening. It is not my computer, since it never happens with any other videos or anything. Wonderful piece though.
not sure if i like this variation/rearrangement. i find quite a few parts being redundant and cheesy. the original cd version is still the best to me, altho i love joe and still thinks he's god.
Joe hisaishi is a genius, one of the greatest composers in the world today. One day people will look back at his music in the same way as we see mozart today.
@zendolian And you know what makes that great? He'll be seen as the great composer of something like the "International classicalism era."
And the best part? they'll have the media to see what his performances were like, which we unfortunately do not have for so many great classical composers.
@welllch - I think the only part you can find on ichigos is Laputa - Castle in the Sky, and it is for piano- simply transpose to trumpet or any other instrument.
@impyciwt I recorded the french version from french tv, but in the US I ordered it from Netflix. If anyone doesn't already have netflix they should it's really worth it
I love how this music has the transition of emotions, such as beginning as a cheerful melody, then going to a sad melody then, a climax ending, wonderful!!
Does anyone know if this piece is in an album? I really want to buy it, but I found only the symphonic version of the soundtrack and it contains a different arrangement. Thank you.
Isnt Hisaishi-sama so happy looking when he conducts! He is my freaking hero. I would be too if I had musics this fantastic surging through my mind. If he didnt write music for a living he would be an angry garbage man sitting in a Sendai bar bitching all day about everything. His life is 1 that is truly blessed.
@IISTEINWAYandSONSII I know what you mean and I still get the shivers no matter how many concerts I play. Yet if it is of any encouragement - you kinda 'get used to the piece'. As in, you go for rehearsals and all that, and after enough times of playing it along with the orchestra, the "paralysing-magic" disappears after a while and you're left with just the "magic". :-) Nothing takes the magic away from music but I hope you understand what I'm trying to say....
What I love about Joe Hisaishi and what makes him my favourite composer... Is that I not only love his music but I love watching him perform. He always looks like he's really happy up there, it makes me happy, too.
I would probably die in the audience from the awesomeness of this. What's more, I wonder how the orchestra deals with it when playing such an emotional piece of music. The climax literally knocked me out of my seat, like the old Memorex commercial when the guy pops in the tape and is blown away by his speakers.
I always have this memory of seeing Laupta whilst I was a child and being deathly scared of the robot. This song is just fantastic. @kirasiah: Your comment reads as a joke. It isn't pronounced La Puta. It's pronounced Lapu-ta.
As for the spelling, people still find therapists helpful, even though the name is twice as terrible...
And lastly, it was a brilliant film. (And it came from a brilliant book...)
MrHassanSan 9 months ago
Excuse me, but I always thought the title of this movie was a fucking joke. I'll explain now why:
"La=The" in some latin languages like Spanish;
"puta=bitch" in some languages, but specially in Portugal and Brazil.
"The Bitch". I'm sorry, but it's just too hilarious...
