Hey, I'm looking to teach in Korea, and I'm really interested in getting a motorcycle while I'm there. Is it difficult to get a motorcycle or the license in Korea if you're a foreigner?
@jmp51985 I don't ride a bike but I do live here in Korea. If you have an international driver's license (car) you can use anything up to 125cc without a special bike permit - must be tagged and insured over 50cc. 50cc and under require no license at all. Above 125cc you need a motorcycle permit - I hear Korean ones can be tricky to get as you must use their heavy old bike to perform low-speed maneuvers.
@noslen1968 Yep, the course was easier than I expected though. You can take a class which is basically riding around on their course for 15 hours for about 250,000 won if you are worried, but if you have any experience on a bike it should be pretty easy.
The only really difficult part was paying double the US price for a Japanese bike here. They do hold their value really well though. There are 3-4 year old bikes here still selling for 90%+ of their original retail price.
