The in the pocket, serious moves DVD's is some of the best drumming I've ever heard. One the greatest musicians EVER! the BPM(speed) of this song clearly shows his skill and talent. SCARY!!!
I love the drumming of Dennis Chambers. It simple clean and easy on the ear. He is a amazing drummer and musci maker. This song show cases his talents really well. Good stuff indeed.
is called acid jazz influenced phrasing so do not listen to this kind of guitarist if you say that these are mistakes... he's very chromatic in his way of playing
Very nice playing (although I respect UCABearBone contribution about "sloppy playing")...I'm a drummer, so I admit that my eyes/ears make a B-line to Dennis C. here...I like his "finger" style and "closed-eyes" playing style..good job, guys!...
Thanks - I just saw the video that you suggested...from the start (and throughout) he seemed "out of the pocket" - and some comments there confirmed it...sure, we all have our "less-than-perfect" days...from your comment to me, I was not sure if you thought I was agreeing with UCABearBone's comment on DC's "sloppiness" on this video - I was NOT agreeing with him, and I felt that Dennis was more "in the pocket" here...anyway, I appreciate your input...
I love reading people talk shit about Dennis Chambers. He is top 3 best-groover alive. He plays such complicated grooves and I've yet to hear of him losing time; he also shreds the drum set like a puppy dog bitch.
I usually find that guys who argue like little immature, know-it-all kids about styles, terms and nit picky fine points of drumming....can't play above their psychological level of maturity anyway...but they sure spout it out anyway, don't they?
Hey UCABearBone, maybe if you would stop playing Autumn Leaves and A Train over and over this groove would make more sense to you. If you have never played this kind of groove then you can't understand it. And by the way, the soloing is called "playing outside" look it up in your text book......jeez
dude, i think you are mentally retarded, i know a lot more about music, and played "fusion" before, do you even know what fusion means, it is a combination of 2 or more types of music, i never said he wasnt an amazing player, he is one of my idols, i just know music dumbass, and that particular SOLO was a little sloppy, and its not called "playing outside" its improv, you need to stop smoking that shit your on and think about what you are trying to say...jeez

most of the solo didnt flow with the foundation of the groove the ensemble had set up for him, in a jazz solo, the drummer shouldnt have to stop and mark time for everyone else to come in, it should just happen, not to mention there were several spots where it was just sloppy. Sorry, but i have played Jazz for many years, and I was not impressed
Omg at aroung 3:35 he changes his groove to 4 over 3 doing triplets with his hands, but keeping his feet the same. This made it sound like he was also having his feet in a triplet pulse but it wasnt. Awesome!
God this is so fuckin amazing, drumemrs like this piss me off cuz theyre so good XD

Yeah, you have been playing jazz for many years, and Dennis has been playing for longer. Until you are on his level, don't critique his playing.
xhilikus 3 years ago
Great playing but the music is nowhere (awful keyboard sound). Still, fun to watch Dennis.
drummer78 3 years ago 3
I think that's the sound they're trying to go for: groovy but with a hint of wrong notes, dissonance, nastyness, etc.
ToroQ3000 3 years ago
I'm not talking so much about the playing approach but rather just the actual sound of the keyboard. Sounds like cheesy 80's t.v. action show stuff.
