GREAT VID!!! Don's museum is fantastic!! If you ever get near Ocala, Fl. make sure you stop by an see it!!! He has a super car show and auction every year.
I first saw Don Garlits in 1964 at Fontana, California. From '64 until I was drafted in 1969 (Vietnam) I spent a good part of my life at SoCal drag strips ~ Lions, OCIR, Irwindale, Fontana and Pomona and I can tell you that drag racing in the 60's was the most fun I ever had. Back then even the strongest top fuel cars had only 2 or 3 guys in the crew, no spare anything, worked 40 hr. a week jobs and kept their cars in the garage next to the washer & dryer. My favorite; Tom "Mongoose" McEwen
wow thats the biggest like up iv ever seen 4 a show off thats my favorite part of the oldshcool drags wish they still tried 2 intimidate b4 the race great video thaxs 4 posting
thanks for sharing this video its awsome to see these cars its a real bummer to live in norway and not have these cars and also not having the posability to go to the states to see hear and feel these monsters awsome stuff
@Hankhill90210---- I don't think you'll see any of these cars ever race again. They are all museum pieces that just happen to run. They are displayed as they were in the 1960s, no way could they come close to passing tech today.
I was there at beechbend loved all the gassers and all the racing. My son Trevor couldnt get enough of it. Cacklefest was awesome should of been called mediafest all the people in orange vests blocked all the spectators who payed there hard earned money 2 see it. Saw more on this video. Special thanks 2 Barb Hamilton who let me my brother Jeff and kids see what view she has been seeing all these years. Great show Long live the gasser era!!!!
I was there last night, this video is much better than the one I took. Thanks for doing this it makes it easy to explain what "cacklefest" is all about. WELL DONE!
nice. the camera man, he's horrible. get some focus in that zoom! saw this trait in last years vid too.. Awesome vid. I do not know as I would have seen it anywhere in my lifetime.
This is one of Don's regular "Cacklefest Cars"....this car is a recreation of Swamp Rat 12-A.
Very cool to see him out there doing this.
