I too would prefer America ,The Beautiful as our anthem, but I wasn't asked so... The Star-Spangled Banner speaks alot about what we have come through (wars and fighting) to become the country we are today. The Star-Spangled Banner is harder to sing but when sung well, it can sound glorious.

Yes, we are still at war, but our country (for better or worse) has been shaped by our past as well as it is being shaped by our current involvement in war. I am not a fan of war, I don't necessarily agree with what my country is doing, but like it or not it has made the US into the nation we are today.

No, the Star Spangled Banner is an objectively bad song. Good poem, bad song. It's a terrible choice for an anthem. It's about a minor battle in a minor war, the only good version of it EVER is Jimi Hendrix's performance at Woodstock.

America the Beautiful would be a much better national anthem for the USA. It's a pretty song, America IS a geographically diverse and gorgeous country, and the song isn't about war, bombs and death.

I have to disagree. She sang the song well and very honestly, unlike the vocalists who sing the American anthem and make it an American Idol performance rather than about the Anthem. Her performance is about the song, not "about her." Very Canadian, if you ask me.
