  • Since when did Gargamel have his own castle? I only remember him having a ghetto little hut.

  • This 1080p best graphics ever no joke it was the first color gamesystem i play it more than 360

  • This is the most therapeutic Let's Play I've ever seen televised.

  • What the fuck is MW3?!

  • This and Zaxxon all day!

  • This is the first game I ever played. My parents had this back in the day.

  • Comment removed

  • Memories. Thanks dude.

  • hahhah.....good times! Played this in 83' for hours! Yes, over and over and over again!

  • and then it starts over. Never gets harder and never ends. Sounds like a great game for heave......seeing as how heaven never ends and you will never die unless you commit suicide or get really drunk......REALLY DRUNK!

  • @mrsokla

On Skill 3 it somewhat gets harder because sometimes the hawk (and the bat when you explore the caves) may return after it reaches the left edge of the screen.

  • this is waay bettter than E.T

  • btw, this game looks cool even after 29 years~

  • I'm definitely not gonna watch your bla bla bla at your bla bla bla . bla bla.

  • So he completed the whole game in just under 2 minutes????!!!! Should fire this up at somepoint on my Caanoo

  • This game isn't even long enough to warrant an

"are we there yet, Papa Smurf?"

  • Easiest game ever. The graphics at the time were amazing, tho. That's why I kept playing it on occasion. I feel ashamed.

  • I wanted a Colecovision so bad when I was a kid. Everytime I went into a store like "Crazy Eddie's" with my father the negotiations began. Actually it was more like begging. Never worked. I did have my day eventually though...it wasn't colecovision. It was a little diddy called the Nintendo Entertainment System and all it's 8 bit glory Biotches! Victory was mine!...But I must admit...sometimes...just sometimes...I can still here the Smurfs screaming when I sleep!...Oooooh the humanity!!

  • @IAmClearlyTheBest - I remember that! Smurfette's body would be just plain blue for a frame or two before scrolling off the screen.

  • So did he beat this game in 1 minute and 41 seconds?

  • this is smerftastic

  • if you jump over the bats do you get any points? i cant remember???

  • @synch98 - Nope. Just the satisfaction of watching it miss you.

  • This reminds me of the Adventure Time episode "Keepers of Sunshine".

    (laughs)

  • And still beats the shitty x360 graphics

  • 0:57 - "Don't shy away from the hawk unless it is very low. If you wait, the hawk might get you anyway, so be bold on your adventure."

  • I'd work my ass off for the only chick in the entire world too.

  • I used to play this on my grandparents Coleco Adam, and I also remember this game being a huge pain in the ass. Buck Rogers on cassette was my game of choice =)

  • After seeing this, I don't think I'd ever complain about a 5 hour single player campaign ever again.

  • Wonderful game guide in Home Video format. At first I thought that it was a video made by a Colecovision fanatic, because of the cheesy effect of rotation at the start of the video, but hearing the narrator I realized how professionally he was, and that this was an instructional video made in the same decade that saw the Coleco videogame in the shops. Gamespot and IGN should make videos like that, without all the amateurish-style speeching they actually put in.

  • coleco vision was underrated

  • What the hell was I thinking when I played this as a kid? I found a port program to play this on my computer today...this is horrible...lol!!! I can't believe I wasted hours with this game.

  • I played the crap out of this game when I was a kid and was a ColecoVision worshiper. Thanks for posting the video, it's been so long since I saw and heard it!

  • Is that actually the whole fn game????

  • @six80ususus

    Yes.

  • Watching this video it seems all so bloody easy..either single or double jump and occasionally duck..but i am sure back in the early 80's this bloody game got me so frustrated.....

  • That's it?

  • @Zistheone2 YUP! $40.00 worth.

  • That stalagmite section at 0:38 reminds me a lot of Another World/Out of this World watch?v=Zgkf6wooDmw&t=9m10s wondering if AW took inspiration from that or if thats just coincidence?

  • is that it? was that the entire game???

  • yeah when i was a kid i bought this game brand new when it came out, it was so repeditive and its the same bullshit levels over and over again

  • This was all we had back then. To us old guys, it WAS a freakin' masterpiece.

  • The Smurfs are supposed to be only "three apples tall". Those hawks and bats must be really tiny!

  • @loneshewolf74 Well, if the hawks were their actual size, Smurf would set foot out of his home, and would get carried away by a hawk. Now that wouldn't be too much of a game, now wouldn't it?

  • Man this is a crap game if there ever was one. The entire game is just a few jumps.

  • "Cute" "graphic" "masterpiece"?? That's like calling it a "masterpiece" of "graphical indulgence" and "puny atmosphere."

  • @RkivUnderground Let's see if you can do better on a Z80 running at 4 Mhz with a video output of 256 by 192 pixels, 16 colors, and with 32 KB of ROM, and 16 KB of RAM.

  • Iam i alone in this? But did anyone back then remember a ghost like figure pop out of the floor in gargamels castle? Still to this day i wonder what it was.

  • I remember this!!

  • This is actually a really fun game, even though it's really easy. Perhaps I only say this cause I grew up with it though. XD

  • What, this isn't the complete game, is it?

  • @BlitzkriegBR No, after you get her it resets with more bats and hawks and gets harder and I think faster. That's how I remember it anyway.

  • @Jest

Not on Skill 1, but on Skill 2. Try Skill 4 for the ultimate challenge!

  • It definitely WAS a graphics masterpiece at the time absolutely slaying ATARI and others......coleco blew all other consoles away.

  • @pressrolls Then how come the NES wasn't blown away and the coleco was?

  • They should have had a Grand-Theft-Auto-style sex scene at the end of this game where Smurf bangs Smurfette. That would have been a "bold adventure" more to the narrator's liking.

  • gaaf:D oldscool game.IS this one still for sale?

  • smurf this smurfing game.

  • wow there is no replay value whatsoever, what was it 3 min of game time.

  • oh damn, i remember this game.. the graphic of the Coleco were damn better than ATARI

  • thats what i call a speed run

  • Coleco version was way better than the Atari 2600, audio & graphics looks amazing :o

  • The Hawk sounds like a Helicopter

  • When you're in the cave, if walk up to a stalagmite, turn around, and then bend over it goes right up the smurf's ass.

  • Those graphics are on par with NES, once he gets in the castle, looks like it could be Super NES. ColecoVision was so good, as long as the game designer put effort into it.

  • @justin76pa supernes in the castle are you fucking crazy?

  • @rngpro Watch your fingers! Remember, some SNES games were lazy, so yes, on par with NES, sometimes SNES.

  • @justin76pa Id agree with you nes, definately. But supernes not at all. There is some beautiful games on the snes and even the lower end games backgrounds are still 100x better than the castle layout here in smurfs. Higher end being something like chrono trigger, where as something mediocre would be mario allstars.. and the backgrounds are still nice to look at.

  • @rngpro I DEFINITELY respect your OPINION ;)

  • squat would have been bettr 4 drama

  • Man, I just had flashbacks! Haven't played the game in 30 years, but when watching it all came back to me in 3 seconds and I swear I could grab the game remote and start kicking some ass. That damn hawk, the spider, the skull...c'mon bring it on!!

  • HAHA WTF? Eating grass will give you a bigger dopamine kick. xD

  • Haha, this game was hilariously bad, even for its time.

Walk into the white fence, you fall over and die. Maybe Smurfs have a nasty allergic reaction to white paint ;)

  • x< WHY DOES IT WAS BANNED?

  • lo mas marica que he visto

  • QUE NO TVISTE INFANCIA HOMBREZAZO

  • @HARDKISS3 si en mi infancia hubiese jugado esto marica seria

  • did he ever mention the bushes?

  • I f***ing hated this game.

If you touched anything, you died. Even the slightest scrape would kill you. The collision detection would drive you insane. You'd be lucky to make it past the first fence.

And how often, in a platformer, would BLADES OF GRASS kill you??

  • @Diskoboy1974

LMAO you took all words out of my mouth!

  • They early games consisted of doing nothing but walking and jumping.

  • lord, my brother and I had this came console back in like 83 or 84..I never will forget my mom coming home with it, and we were the happiest thing. I remember in the summer when we were out of school, spending hours playing this. We had smurfs which we bought from Sears, Frogger, and I think, Donkey Kong.

  • cool 80s game -love it!

  • WOOW, how annoying was to wait for the next screen to slide in!!! i wonder why this had to be like this if the graphics were not to complicated, probably the refresh rate was extremely low.

  • wow that skull did a good job defending her, i guess he didnt predict the double jump! dam smurf

  • did anyone ever play level 4 difficulty on Coleco games? I think the highest I ever played was 2. wow, these games seem absurdly short and simple compared to today's games. oh well, simpler times...

  • WOW that games gay

  • Cool. How many bits was Coleco?

  • @Freshbrood 8 bits.

    Its a Z80 cpu, and a TMS9928A video chip

  • I use to love this game.

  • in the next scene smurf jumps smurfetta, lulz

  • short FUCKING game asswipe

  • very good graphics compared to the 2600

  • i still got that game 4 VCS2600 .... there are a hell of different versions around!

  • i dont know why im thinking this but what colour does a smurf go when we choke it?

  • Purple.

  • @Raveseeker well done you got it right:D

  • I think people should take a second and think how mindbogglingly good these graphics were given the situation at the time.

  • Agreed. Looking at these graphics, and then looking at Atari's at the time... no comparison. Great music too.

I was just looking at a video clip of The Empire Strikes Back for the 2600 and it's night and day.

  • Since when did Garamel live in a castle and not a crappy little hut. :P

  • I just love the basic premise of the game. The music brings back memories of bygone days of childhood. Thanks

  • I remember this game!!!!!!

I was a very little girl when I had my colecovision. It soo ... nostalgic *-*

  • I used to play it on my C64, funny how they put Billie Jean as a background music to it. I couldn't get past the dark areas, and I see this version is slightly different than the C64 one.

  • I like this guys monotone voice perfect for relaying information.

  • i searched colecovision because peter griffin just found one in his belly button

  • You too, huh?

  • I remember how amazing the graphics were for the time! So much better than the 2600 version!

  • ROFL is this a joke?

  • dude, these games made cod, this was one of the first consoles...without it there would be no 360 or ps3

  • I am sorry there difference between a good game and being blinded by nostalgic nonsense. How the hell is this a good game compared to Pitfall and Asteroids? Give me negative comments and ratings I don't care. Tobe honest if you think this is a masterpiece of a game your opinion is null and void.

  • You are right, well I had this game and was amazed by graphics and music...hipnotic, very simple..but well..the gamepaly was non existent and so easy, but I think the reason why people love this game is because of nostalgia and cute graphics, there were obviously such a lot of old games with better gameplay...

  • what a great way to kill time between beers and welfare cheques while wailing for someone to get you a life!

  • That pussy was playing this game on skill level 2. On skill 4 you have to go through each screen 4 times minus the final skull. The hawk and bat will come back at you after it hits one side of the screen. It is also faster. The grassland scenes often have many double jump areas. Best trick is to jump off each screen near the end so you can do a super single jump up a double cleft of ground. Piece of cake game I've mastered years upon years ago.

  • Although after a long quest such as this it might be desirable, one needn't jump on Smurfette at the end as shown in this video. A "triple-jump" will get you onto the platform, and then you can simply walk into her waiting arms.

  • Good video games with great graphics didn't just pop out of nowhere.

Video games had to start someplace.

Besides some people appreciate the older games to the newer ones.

  • I sure do. I love em all. Ive gt a colecovision coming from ebay right as we speak

  • Those were the absolute best graphics available at the time. It was a nice change to have things actually look like what they were supposed to be. Atari games... not so much.

  • I used to love this game! I don't remember it being so short . I remember the first time I played Super Mario Brothers. I thought I beat the game when I passed the first level.

  • negative comments here are obviously from younger gamers, who never lived through the 80's.

They obviously take the new technology for granted....probably thinking iphones have been around forever...lol

  • wow this is the easiest game ever. This shit was in an arcade?

  • masterpiece? Da fuck?

  • Classic video game.

  • After rescuing smurfette congratulations on wasting your money for 5 minutes of horrible play value.

Lol my god this game is horridly hilarious.

  • I cant get past the first fence on the atari 2600

  • Of all the games to do a strategy guide for, why this easy as fuck game?

  • "Fuck easy" doesn't describe this in the slightest.

  • Masterpiece, eh?

  • @SolInvictus Hey, back then this was a beauty.

  • I had this game when it came out. I was 6 so it took me hours to play.

  • I had this game back in '82 when it first came out. Actually, I still have it and the rest. I should point out that this is the harder level in the smurf game. The easy level has no bats, birds or spiders. Also, the smurf game was the most boring game out of all the games that came out at that time. Donkey Kong Jr. was much more interesting!

  • the people pays 50$ for one minuit of game? what a fuck are they thinking?

  • Probably that they know how to spell minute.

  • LoL. In Torrents we trust.

  • Im just curios.. is this the whole game?

  • Este era mi juego favorito jajaja yo no tenia el coleco sino el atari pero mis primos tenian el coleco y me encantaba jugar a este juego queria ver como era porque obviamente no es como lo recordaba jajajajajaja

  • gargamel's castle without gargamel

  • the music is good and also the graphics

  • Honestly, I think this game looks fantastic for 1982. Compare it with "The Empire Strikes Back" for Atari, also from '82. It's pretty impressive. Although TESB is actually pretty fun. Albeit repetitive.

Downside: The phrase "Smurfs game" doesn't seem to get my adrenaline pumping. I'm not sure why.

"Super Metroid", now THERE was a game...*sigh*

  • 'masterpiece'

    I think that's pushing things a bit

  • This was like, the SECOND platformer to exist, EVER.

  • still a pile of shit

  • great stuff ~ keep it comin'~

  • i had this on 2600 i couldnt clear the first fence

  • However, the proper Smurfs theme does appear on Coleco's 1984 release "Smurf Paint 'n Play Workshop."

  • Comment removed

  • if anyone cares, the music at 0:22 and 0:50 is beethoven, 6th symphony, first movement

  • While the overland music is that of "Simple Gifts."

  • lol it was

  • this game had the best graphics back then...

  • This game is really a classic for Colecovision. :)

My only complaint about it is... well, just listen to the music. Creepy... lolz.

  • I remember this and thought it was fun back then

  • whats wrong with you guys?? i remember this being the greatest game ever!!! oh thats right, i was five when i played this

  • I am amused at seeing this game after all these years. i had this game as a youngster back in 1981. I loved the music and got a kick out of seeing it!

  • omg this must have been the easiest, boringest game ever

  • Oh man I remember this game and being like WTF that's it! No Gargamel, no Azrael just a lot of suck. I think I finished it like a dozen times.

  • wow! this game really sucks! Even as a gamer I would turn away from video games if it meant paying lots of money to play a mediocre game like this.

  • hey man, at this point in time in 84, nintendo had only released games like Popeye, Donkey Kong, Clu Clu Land etc. so its not that bad for its time.

  • what a wast of money!!! if I had this when I was a kid I'd be like... wtf? one minute and a half??? I'M FINISHED!!!! WHAT A RIP-OFF. my first game was Bio Menace, on a DOS machine, now that was a game :P

  • Apparently a bastardized version of Appalachian Springs plays when you rescue smurf princessi

  • It'S TEH HAPPIEST GAME EVER

  • How do you make her dress fall off? As I recall that was the main source of fun after you mastered the art of not being killed by a picket fence.

  • If I remember this right you don't walk up to her after making on top the skull. Instead turn around and jump back down. Her dress disappears! Now try jumping back up on the skull and going to an underwear-clad Smurfette! SLAP!

  • Yeah! I recall it always reminded me of Karateka, another rescue-the-princess game where your final approach could result in unintentional hilarity.

  • the 1st game i ever played

  • great graphics for that time but terrible gameplay

  • That was the main problem with alot of Colecovisions games. The graphics were "State Of The Art" and ahead of their time for 1984 but the gameplay of most of the coleco games just seemed to be lacking something.

  • this game had great graphics, sounds, and gameplay

  • Yeah, I don't know if folks weren't around then realize just how incredible the graphics were for this game- especially for a home console game.
