For me, Melinda Doolittle was different to any other contestant that has so far appeared on American Idol. Not only does she have a Sweet Voice and Magical Delivery... she is the "Finished" Pro. All others have had Potential only.
And whilst most are finding it difficult to live up to that potential, I feel, like a good wine, Melinda is going to mature even more as time goes by...!!
2:26-2:35 were unbelievable, and I remember when she hit those notes on the live show, I cheered for her, it was the greatest feeling ever, shes incredible, and cant wait for her album.
The future for Melissa is going to be phenomenal. I truly believe we are witnessing the beginnings of a MAJOR solo singing career. Her years of apprenticeship singing behind truly great singers is an education that cannot be matched.
Melinda -- You are a great communicator. We already believe we know you. The great Nat King Cole would be proud of you. He too was warm, kind, humble, unassuming, and intelligent. He too connected with his fans. Millions around the world adored (and still do) his music and loved the man. Already, you have fans that adore your music, and love YOU.
Vive la difference. For example. Whitney, Celine, Gladys, Tina, Shirley, Mahalia, Joan ... Nat, Frank, Dean, Ray, Glen, Johnny, Andrea... are all differently blessed Singer-Entertainers. Melinda, American Idol has shown you too are a blessed Singer-Entertainer. One favour? Be like Nat... try different genre. For starters, I would like you to do a Country Collection sometime soon. Bon voyage.

she is amazing. I have downloaded some Kelly, Carrie Jennifer and Kelli....but, I would buy Melinda's entire CD. Clay Aiken is the only other contestant that I would buy an entire CD of songs. Paula calls Melinda magical. Gladys Knight called Clay magical. I think they are both correct.
I usually like Melinda's live version's better than her studio versions because her energy level is so high when she sings live. This studio version is amazing though. I like the slightly slower tempo better than the live version. She is incredible.
On results night Melinda said that this week was a "wake-up call" to step it up. (Simon's comment that her first song was a backup singer's vocal probably had something to do with that.) It's interesting to hear how she changed up her vocal for the live performance, especially her glory note.
I blame Simon and Randy for her leaving because they were pimping Jordin when she didn't deserve it. That one time that Randy said Jordin's song was the best ever on Idol made me just about fall out of my chair. That was ridiculous. I have listened to that song more than once and she was off key several times in that song. He is nuts if he really believes that.
LOVE her version. this did not get the praise it deserved the other nite. favorite moment is that sweet and smooth 'yeah' at 2:16 i love that for some reason

Heaven has more singers like this but on earth we are limited.

They only do studio versions of one song.

I know, I was so weirded out by Randy saying that. The producers wanted Jordin to win so I'm sure they put him up to it.
