I'm going to be playing Mae Peterson in the Bellevue Society for the Arts's version of Bye Bye Birdie. I haven't seen the script much yet, so I have to ask: Is this song in most stage productions?
No it is not - this song was written for the TV version when Tyne Daly played Mae Peterson. I even lowered the song when I sang it for our musical. It's a great song and you can put it in or not - that's up to your director. However, the song can be talked and would still be great fun!
I am Mama in our production. Tonight is opening night! We are doing the movie version of 'Kids' instead of this one though.

Our performance is in less than two weeks and about a week ago I replaced the girl who originally played Mae.
I'm quite excited for the song and for the whole character... being way overdramatic and whatnot.

I actually ordered the music online and lowered it to my register. She's a great role - enjoy it - the audience loves Mae!
