It is a rant, and now you are falling into the typical lefty, "Oh, I really didn't mean what I said" rant. It was a Democrat who first fought against the Delta Queen back in the day, and it's Democrats who constantly show us that they have no respect for America. The only thing that will save her now is someone with a lot of money. Oh wait, you guys don't like people with money, either, do you?
As a man raised on the Sacramento River - historic original home of beloved Delta Queen until 1941 - I was all too glad to finally make a 10-day trip aboard her in 2004, and your video helps me cement those soul-satisfying memories. I recall this very same departure; it might have even been the trip I was on. Regardless - tho' she's idling in Memphis awaiting Lord knows what future, LONG LIVE DELTA QUEEN!
Oh yes, the typical liberal's rant has to include something, anything, about George Bush. The Dems voted pretty much right down party lines. There are a few good ones out there, but for the most part, they're against our American heritage, against our way of life, and against saving our history. I've loved this boat since I was a small child, and these people have broken my heart, and stolen our heritage from us.
@vibraphonusrex Its not a rant, its facts and the fact is that Bush choose not to support the Queen. Its a non partisian issue. I'm certain that I would disagree with you over every social issue possible, but we both share the desire to see the Queen returned where she belongs. If you want her back, it would be wise for you to bury the hatchet on this one. We both love this boat, do we not? We have common ground. Making it a partisian issue only isolates people and will not help bring her back.
It has everything to do with a jealous union and an un-American, Democrat, dictator in the House. At least that bum Oberstar lost his job; maybe he'll crash on one of the planes that were never inspected during his term of office.
Comparing the Delta Queen to a steamboat of 100 years ago, as Oberstar did to scare people, is like comparing an Airbus to the Wright Flyer. Her boilers are contained in the hull, completely surrounded by steel; they are the type used on Navy destroyers for decades.
@vibraphonusrex And President George W Bush choose not to grant a presidential pardon to the boat while Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) was in favor of saving the boat. My own representative Deborah Pryce (R OH) choose not to vote to save the Queen. its not a partisan issue, its an Oberstar issue...and I'm glad he's gone.Democrats are hardly un American. I'm a Democrat and the Queen is common ground for us.
@suegoodloe Don't make this a partisan issue.....both Democrats and Republicans want to save this boat and there were plenty of Democrats from states on the rivers who supported the Queen. We need to be solid with each other if we want to see this boat returned to service.
@suegoodloe - It probably has less to do with union or non-union labor than to something like - you know - fire safety? Read your history about riverboats and how many burned down to the waterline. Easier to abandon her if you're awake and fully dressed than to wake up to a fire during the night...
Nope, its corrupt politics. Read YOUR history and NONE of th boats that "burned to the water line: had modern safety equipment like the Delta Queen. It has a perfect safety record. SOLAS was meant for ocean going boats, not riverboats. You must work for the corrupt James Oberstar or something. May he rot in a bad nursing home in his old age.
