People need to stop generalizing GKR as a half hearted karate club, that only cares about making money. Some of the accusations may be true, but its an insult to all GKR members who put 110% effort into their karate. For example my Sensai. He isn't a black belt, but his been training four times a week minimum for the past 3years ish since his started. Why do I think he does this? Because he wants to better, and to be a better example to those in the dojo.
@majdake wow been training for 3 years?! OMG! -_-. have a look at kyokushin,usually AT LEAST 8 years before being in a grade high enough for a black belt.

the next year yeah, we sparred again, i managed to win me first round and so did u then we ende dup sparring but you won and then carrie don to get gold, kata i don't think i was too far off a bronze just a few points were u in any of the team events?

Every gkr video is pretty much the same as the rest,if you enjoy entering tournaments,fair play,but why not join a decent club and you can still enter tournaments that actually mean something.Look at all the other styles on youtube,hardly ever is there a negative comment,so ask yourself why is there on all the gkr ones?From yellow belt to black,they do the same basics and nothing else except more "altered" kata ,how can that black belt really be worth anything?
I feel sorry for students at gkr. You guys are being conned out of your money because you're being taught by guys and gals who were most probably yellow belts not too long before they decided to hide their identity with instructor belts. Don't get me wrong. There's still talent amongst instructors and students alike, and they're sadly wasting their time and money. Seriously, step away from it. You'll come out of there with a worthless black belt and a feeling of resentment.

Well if you must know Mr dwright, i was curious about this organization as there is one near me. Since i have viewed this vid i will not be investigating joining any more. I am more convinced now by your comment as it shows a reactive defensive and undisciplined mindset. So stop telling others what they should or shouldn't do and look at what you do with open eyes. I think we all all watch because we are passionate about karate. I don't wanna slate GKR karate, because it keeps kids of the street and learning something.
I think people take objection to GKR because it is very different to most other Karate clubs and karate-do in general. Most karate-ka go on courses, mingle with other styles and compete with each other; which enhances our karate. GKR is much more self contained -which you must see is unhealthy for developing as a karate-ka.
This is one of the funniest serious karate clips i have seen. I realy hope that these people don't ever have to use these skills in a real situation becouse they will end up being floored buy the high levels of laughter.

to add to this also, an ex GKR student (1st Dan) came to our dojo to train and was struggling with shihozuki...the lad who came to the door said I could acheive a dan grade in 18 months! Sounds dodgy to me and my wxperience of GKR has generally been VERY bad. I'm sure that with all the money that GKR con out of people, you could buy some makiwara boards instead of sending students out knocking on doors trying to convince people into buying into your 10 dollar black belt schemes...SHAMEFUL...

Yes GKR are very good at NAS,,but NAS isn't worth it's weight. Point sparring is a game, just a game. It does not represent in any form a effective defence. You can't learn to hit hard by htting nothing. Muay thai for example would get owned at NAS, But would demolish all the NAS contenders in an even half real situation or semi contact.
Nas is crap,organised and run by GKR,,i left GKR after 18 months and joined a "real karate club". I'm a run of the mill purple belt (that's your red) but i would still comfortably deal with a fair portion of your black belts.I remember being invited to instructor training once and couldn't believe the piss poor standard of some (not all) of the black belts .Non contact is useless,,how will you ever learn to swim if you don't want to get wet.GKR is mickey mouse,try a real style like i did and see
GKR is a pile of dogshit....when I wanted to start I went to a GKR club and there was a green belt (YES A GREEN BELT) taking the class!!! There are 2 GKR clubs within 500 yds of eachother and the "young boy" who came knocking knew next to nothing about martial arts/bunkai and japanese terminology yet claimed to be a 1st dan??? I frequent many competitions both local and national and NEVER see any GKR karateka competing in any....

the thing with gkr an i spose karate in general teach, is self control, mma etc dont teach you how to control a punch, they teach you to put your fist through an opponents face, gkr is a defensive system, so on the street that could mean the difference between going home an going to jail, but then this is only an opinion.

good karate. i cant understand why so many people are jealous of Kancho sulliven making money? how do the other MA survive? by not making money? i understand that there may of been people who are not happy with some instructors due to bad teachings but why not try other GKR clubs?
i use to do taekwondo 2 years a go but there closes down and i got up to 1 grad and are you a inst for karate im would like to join becaues use look like do the sam stafe as taekwondo but df patines

good point, but you are wrong re only black belt teach GKR. However most of hte teacher/instructors i know are taught very well themselves and so are in most cases above thier belt levels in ablility anyway, that is it often happnes that becoming an instructor actually slows down ones gradings. No i am in australia and that may be an aim but it is not happening especially in outer centres. In big city there are lots of balck belts and so they all may be balck belts. But of the 6 instructors i train under 3 are black belst aand the other 3 are great too. Obvioulsy some lessor belts are going to be less than some balck belst but being black doesn't necessarily mean that are a great instructor. Cheers & all the best.
I understand that in australia now,they only allow instructors to teach if they are black belts.People critisize GKR for it's door canvassing techniques yet it's one of,if not the biggest karate schools in the world,perhaps if other arts got off their arses and promoted their dojo's they'd be just as big.
GKR is a buisness and they've never made any secret of that,they also have some poor instructors,however i have trained with them for over a year and my sensei and the senseis in surrounding areas are excellent.One actually failed his black belt grading in december,yet is a 3rd dan in wada ryu,so this should indicate how tough the art is.

In GKR, we may be non-contact, but we use little padding - That can result in some fairly serious injuries, if accidents were to happen. But why would you want to even take or incur pain anyway?! Martial arts is purely for fun and self-defence, not for beating the crap out of people. :)

some of the stuff being said about gkr and kancho on here is totally wrong. i train with the bkk alot so im a huge oyama supporter. but i dont think kancho would ever compare himself to oyama or any of the all time greats. he's an incredibly humble guy and always classes himself as still a student.

i disagree... im a 2nd dan in shotokan... but think ive become alot sharper through gkr, things arent rushed as much. the style you learn doesnt matter... its what you make of it

shame. this video does not do gkr justice. ive been doing gkr for nearly 4 years and a good couple of years in other full contact styles and gkr is the best one ive done. not sure why theres clips of people with weapons...cos theyre not ours lol.
Indeed it does, "if you dont train for 3 months you loose your belt" very traditional, its what we call a "Mcdojo" or a "belt Factory" or a "Bullshido" Thats ALL it has going for it, makes you confident, but ANY martial art can do that but it actully teaches you thing. Im done here i dont need to say much more really.
I haven't trained in GKR for about 6 months. I still have my belt. And it didn't just make me confident, it changed my whole life for the better. And as for teaching me things? i hold my own against people from a variety of martial arts and can hold in depth discussion with people from all backgrounds about all aspects of martial arts, from training style to combinations to budo. AdnanCucak, i respect you, but you're talking out of your ass.
Oss atleast we have reaspect, look i dont have some kind of Anti everything thats not Shotokan hate thing, but there IS a reason not alot of people/clubs/martial arts reaspect GRK. Meybe its changing its ways....but from what iv seen i just dont think a shotokan black belt who made his own club and made himself a grandmaster is legitimate....
AdnanCucak - Hm. That's not part of GKR officially. Sounds like a rogue local instructor. Maybe he pockets the extra grading fees and sells them their old belt back (Since it is encouraged to donate your old belt.). Unethical is what it is.
whatever people want to believe, thats fine. I've sparred people who've trained in a multitude of styles and i've always held my own, always been able to give them a good run, with people at the same level and higher than me in their style. And it's saved my skin a few times on the street as well. I've studied GKR damned hard for a long time, as well as a few other styles before and after i studied Gkr, so i know what i'm talking about
And thats absolutley fine, But there IS a reason Alot of martial arts styles says that GRK dosnt deserve their reaspect. Just saying, when a black belt from ONE style who JUSt got the belt barly starts his OWN styles and deems himself the "grand master" of it, there is something seriously wrong which is exactly WHY not alot of other martial arts reaspect GRK. He's trained among some of the finest teachers in the world and now, having trained for 42 years, knows a little more than when it was first started. I agree with you a little on the beginnings of Gkr, but times have changed and having met Kancho Sullivan three times and sparred him once, he's pretty damn good. I hold my own against most people having trained damned hard in a multitude of styles for many years but i couldn't get close to him.

This is exactly whats wrong with Karate today.Its all about show.Real Karate is ment for real life situations & requires years of STUDY, not training.You have to develop a strong mind & understand postural allignment, power sorceing, natural body movment, vunrable points of the body to name just a small part of it.This isnt Karate, its bullshit with Gi's.

People need to stop generalizing GKR as a half hearted karate club, that only cares about making money. Some of the accusations may be true, but its an insult to all GKR members who put 110% effort into their karate. For example my Sensai. He isn't a black belt, but his been training four times a week minimum for the past 3years ish since his started. Why do I think he does this? Because he wants to better, and to be a better example to those in the dojo.

I feel sorry for students at gkr. You guys are being conned out of your money because you're being taught by guys and gals who were most probably yellow belts not too long before they decided to hide their identity with instructor belts. Don't get me wrong. There's still talent amongst instructors and students alike, and they're sadly wasting their time and money. Seriously, step away from it. You'll come out of there with a worthless black belt and a feeling of resentment.

I think we all all watch because we are passionate about karate. I don't wanna slate GKR karate, because it keeps kids of the street and learning something.
I think people take objection to GKR because it is very different to most other Karate clubs and karate-do in general. Most karate-ka go on courses, mingle with other styles and compete with each other; which enhances our karate. GKR is much more self contained -which you must see is unhealthy for developing as a karate-ka.

to add to this also, an ex GKR student (1st Dan) came to our dojo to train and was struggling with shihozuki...the lad who came to the door said I could acheive a dan grade in 18 months! Sounds dodgy to me and my wxperience of GKR has generally been VERY bad. I'm sure that with all the money that GKR con out of people, you could buy some makiwara boards instead of sending students out knocking on doors trying to convince people into buying into your 10 dollar black belt schemes...SHAMEFUL...

Yes GKR are very good at NAS,,but NAS isn't worth it's weight. Point sparring is a game, just a game. It does not represent in any form a effective defence. You can't learn to hit hard by htting nothing. Muay thai for example would get owned at NAS, But would demolish all the NAS contenders in an even half real situation or semi contact.

Nas is crap,organised and run by GKR,,i left GKR after 18 months and joined a "real karate club". I'm a run of the mill purple belt (that's your red) but i would still comfortably deal with a fair portion of your black belts.I remember being invited to instructor training once and couldn't believe the piss poor standard of some (not all) of the black belts .Non contact is useless,,how will you ever learn to swim if you don't want to get wet.GKR is mickey mouse,try a real style like i did and see

GKR is a pile of dogshit....when I wanted to start I went to a GKR club and there was a green belt (YES A GREEN BELT) taking the class!!! There are 2 GKR clubs within 500 yds of eachother and the "young boy" who came knocking knew next to nothing about martial arts/bunkai and japanese terminology yet claimed to be a 1st dan??? I frequent many competitions both local and national and NEVER see any GKR karateka competing in any....

the thing with gkr an i spose karate in general teach, is self control, mma etc dont teach you how to control a punch, they teach you to put your fist through an opponents face, gkr is a defensive system, so on the street that could mean the difference between going home an going to jail, but then this is only an opinion.

Like, Every Champoin of Champions is a GKR student, and you can not blame the "Referee Board" Because non of them are GKR students. There most certainly has to be some great GKR dojo's out there.

good point, but you are wrong re only black belt teach GKR. However most of hte teacher/instructors i know are taught very well themselves and so are in most cases above thier belt levels in ablility anyway, that is it often happnes that becoming an instructor actually slows down ones gradings. Oh and as for the absolute MORON kaich0, he has been all over the place slagging of GKR. Why he keeps watching i don't know. He is a disgarce to any MA style.

No i am in australia and that may be an aim but it is not happening especially in outer centres. In big city there are lots of balck belts and so they all may be balck belts. But of the 6 instructors i train under 3 are black belst aand the other 3 are great too. Obvioulsy some lessor belts are going to be less than some balck belst but being black doesn't necessarily mean that are a great instructor. Cheers & all the best.

Dear kaich0.Just joined youtube. Been watching all types and styles of kata etc. Been doing karate of one style or another for 25 years. Sadly it doesn't surprise me that there are complete buffons and miserable little urchins like you still around. I have enjoyed my three styles and learnt from them all. Hello. Funny thing about this Kaich0 pile of excrement is the way he seems to abhor GKR making money. Yet he (that is he claims to be in Barzil) is in Brazil running clinics etc. Does he do this for free? he must be one hell of a wealthy and philnathropic MA to travel the world and teach all for free. I think you should all remember what this, a video of people, and kids, just trying to show how proud they are of their achievements. And you'v all turned it into a slaggin match. newspectre, is that a good exsample for a teacher to set. what if one of your younger students read that... And all you anti-gkr lot, just let them get on with it. What difference does it make to your life whether gkr exists or not.

Haha! Is Sensei Neil in that vid? And Gangstadamon, you may be full contact, but how much protection do you wear? Enough. In GKR, we may be non-contact, but we use little padding - That can result in some fairly serious injuries, if accidents were to happen. But why would you want to even take or incur pain anyway?! Martial arts is purely for fun and self-defence, not for beating the crap out of people. :)

some of the stuff being said about gkr and kancho on here is totally wrong. i train with the bkk alot so im a huge oyama supporter. but i dont think kancho would ever compare himself to oyama or any of the all time greats. he's an incredibly humble guy and always classes himself as still a student.

i disagree... im a 2nd dan in shotokan... but think ive become alot sharper through gkr, things arent rushed as much. the style you learn doesnt matter... its what you make of it

shame. this video does not do gkr justice. ive been doing gkr for nearly 4 years and a good couple of years in other full contact styles and gkr is the best one ive done. not sure why theres clips of people with weapons...cos theyre not ours lol.

Indeed it does, "if you dont train for 3 months you loose your belt" very traditional, its what we call a "Mcdojo" or a "belt Factory" or a "Bullshido" Thats ALL it has going for it, makes you confident, but ANY martial art can do that but it actully teaches you thing. Im done here i dont need to say much more really.

I haven't trained in GKR for about 6 months. I still have my belt. And it didn't just make me confident, it changed my whole life for the better. And as for teaching me things? i hold my own against people from a variety of martial arts and can hold in depth discussion with people from all backgrounds about all aspects of martial arts, from training style to combinations to budo. AdnanCucak, i respect you, but you're talking out of your ass.

Oss atleast we have reaspect, look i dont have some kind of Anti everything thats not Shotokan hate thing, but there IS a reason not alot of people/clubs/martial arts reaspect GRK. Meybe its changing its ways....but from what iv seen i just dont think a shotokan black belt who made his own club and made himself a grandmaster is legitimate....

AdnanCucak - Hm. That's not part of GKR officially. Sounds like a rogue local instructor. Maybe he pockets the extra grading fees and sells them their old belt back (Since it is encouraged to donate your old belt.). Unethical is what it is.

whatever people want to believe, thats fine. I've sparred people who've trained in a multitude of styles and i've always held my own, always been able to give them a good run, with people at the same level and higher than me in their style. And it's saved my skin a few times on the street as well. I've studied GKR damned hard for a long time, as well as a few other styles before and after i studied Gkr, so i know what i'm talking about

And thats absolutley fine, But there IS a reason Alot of martial arts styles says that GRK dosnt deserve their reaspect. Just saying, when a black belt from ONE style who JUSt got the belt barly starts his OWN styles and deems himself the "grand master" of it, there is something seriously wrong which is exactly WHY not alot of other martial arts reaspect GRK. He's trained among some of the finest teachers in the world and now, having trained for 42 years, knows a little more than when it was first started. I agree with you a little on the beginnings of Gkr, but times have changed and having met Kancho Sullivan three times and sparred him once, he's pretty damn good. I hold my own against most people having trained damned hard in a multitude of styles for many years but i couldn't get close to him.

ickleoli - I have sparred Bob Sullivan. He's slow, but then he's old. Bob was still snappy and strong but. I did get tired of his constant reverse punching and less than dynamic side kick. Then I'm not his age am I!!

Look i dont know, but people dont give reaspect to GKR because they havnt deserved it, in australia GKR is here Just to make money, any martial art can make you feel good. this one was founded by a Shotokan 1st dan.

This is exactly whats wrong with Karate today.Its all about show.Real Karate is ment for real life situations & requires years of STUDY, not training.You have to develop a strong mind & understand postural allignment, power sorceing, natural body movment, vunrable points of the body to name just a small part of it.This isnt Karate, its bullshit with Gi's.
