im a big john carpenter fan and never been dispointed in any movies of him he's one of my favorite directors its just his art of making movies its just.......GENIUS!!! all his movies are great but my favorites are: THE THING, EXCAPE FROM NEW YORK, THEY LIVE, AND HALLOWEN but out of all of those my favorite is THE THING
do not remake but give it the sequel with Russel and Carpenter in charge. we deserve it. and a sequel to the THING with both these guys and Keith Davids, damn, it!
Yeah they got the thumbs up... and the guy that did the second "Wallstreet" or some shit is doing it... Kurt says" he is too old to be doing the role". "I think he dosnt want anything with this future flop" It should be titled "Escape From The Theater". because after reading the rough plot thats what everyone will be doing...
@ImpressionisticDesir seriously? in my opinion i would rather have a remake, cause if it's a sequel i sort of feel i have to see it, since it's part of the story
I saw this movie at Monster-Mania Con 20 on Saturday, and I met John Carpenter there as well! This is one of the greatest post-apocalyptic action-adventure movies of all time, right up there with the first two MAD MAX movies! And as far as this trailer goes, they just don't make 'em like they used to (so sad)!
@bloodysword100 This wasn't a 'serious' depiction of the future. John Carpenter just wanted to make a cool film that took place after an apocalyptic war. This is no more serious than Terminator Salvation or Back to the Future 2 and their versions of the "future" .
Solid Snake was inspired by this movie and Kyle Reese from Terminator. Escape from NY is a masterpiece, but not Carpenter's top 5. I would put Halloween, Assault on Precinct 13, The Thing, Big Trouble In Little China, and They Live ahead of it.
I remember being a teen and discovering this on television at night or something. Me and my brother were crazed watching this because we played the game beforehand.
@RichardElden you have no taste in films. This is one of the cult classics of American Flim History. Kurt Russell is known for numerous rolls especially playing Snake Plissken. Plus the Legendary cast in this flim. Kurt Russell, Donald Pleasence, Issac Hayes, and Lee Van Cleef. You cant replace them.
@Tacom4ster I didnt say he was a money maker either, in fact, I said nothing of money or ticket sales. What I meant by "bombs" was movies that I thought sucked, and theres a few of them. However, The THing is one of my all time favorties.
@heat45jc theyre also remaking The Thing well its a prequel its probably not gonna be that good either but hopefully it will and will keep the same feel as the original but i doubt it no kurt russell and no john carpenter = a brand new hollywood butchered remake piece of garbage
Escape from New York is part of an exciting dusk-to-dawn retro show at Crazy Bob's Harvest Moon Drive-in Theater in Linden PA this Sun. night May 29, 2011, Memorial Day Eve. Other features: A full vintage reel of drive-in short films; Pirates of the Caribbean Part 4, and the uncut The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. See EFNY and GBU in glorious 35 MM technicolor on a massive drive-in theater screen! Drive-in is located at 7582 US Route 220 S., Linden, PA 17744. Open 7 pm Show Dusk.
THIS MOVIE IS KURT RUSSELL AT HIS KICK ASS BEST. LOVE THIS MOVIE , LOVE THE CAST. JOHN CARPENTER IS MY FAVORITE DIRECTOR, JUST ABOUT ALL HIS MOVIES DELIVER THAT PUNCH THAT MAKES A MOVIE KICK ASS.
I got to see this when it first came out to the theater and so have seen it many times since. for some reason I never get tired of watching it. I guess by today's standards it a little slow action wise but I still love it.
Yeah, Snake Plisken was the insperation for Solid Snake. One of the all time greatest charactors ever made for any medium. One who actually eclipses Plisken completely and becomes, what I believe, thousands of times greater then anything Plisken had done. Thanks Kurt, you have helped give birth to a great charactor.
There was one thing I didn't understand about the movie. If the government decided to make Manhattan one big security prison, and nobody was allowed in or out, then why didn't they just destroy the 69th street bridge altogether, and all bridges for that matter? Instead, they set up various mines that appear to be no less than 30 feet apart - not exactly foolproof if you ask me.
if you are a true snake plissken fan then you should know that they should have called it escape from clevland because there were only 2 scenes in the movie that were shot in ny. one being the statue of liberty in the begining and the wrestling scene the rest was shot in ohio
@boleplissken The bridge used for this movie was the Old chain of Rock Bridge which connected Illinois and Missouri, A murder took place there in 1991, detailed in the book A Rip in Heaven
I remember seeing this movie in the theater on opening night.....I was 7 YEARS OLD!! LOL! My mom was a HUGE Kurt Russell fan. What I remembered most was the blood flowing between Adrien Barbo's bosoms and the hands reaching up and pulling people underground. I remember telling my older sister I wish hands would come up and take her away! LOL! When I saw this movie when I was older, I loved it so much and still do!
I watched this late at night one night, didnt know what it was. Never wouldve associated it with anything that wouldve had funding for commercials.. they mustve remade this movie cuz I was thinkinh something different when I heard Escape from NY
Those dusty models playing the part of New York City were actually perfect for this film. The place no longer lives, it rots as a haven for thugs. Who can honestly say that the helicopter flying towards it at 0:10 isn't a beautiful shot, with the shimmering water and old gray skyscrapers reflecting the lights. There is no hope in that town. Going there must be like plunging deep into the woods; Here There Be Monsters.
I'd rather see a third instalment on the series with Kurt then to see another remake destroy a cult classic. What are they going to remake next, Army of Darkness? Shows the lack of talent over in Hollywood.
I don't remember that happening in 1997 NYC.
