you must relise most of these boats carry the Iron ore used to make steel used to make your cars. So without them, you wouldn't probably have a car anyway!
I don't mind being bridged..I work on the other side so it happens to me almost everyday(lol)! I think it is really cool that we have things here that the average town doesn't(I miss the old fog horn on the pierr),my only wish was that the city would put some type of light system that would tell people when the bridge was up, so they don't even go into canal park because if you do,sometimes you literally end up getting stuck!
I don't know if it is gone for sure, but about three years ago people started complaining about the noise and the city put restrictions on the foghorn's useage so the owners of the Foghorn dismantled it. (at least thats what I remember from watching the news)I loved hearing that thing...on foggy days it would go off all day long and I felt like I was in a different country! So it might still be there, but the sound isn't.
Aw man that sucks! For those guys who live on MN point and complained about the noise, it's better to hear a loud noise than a ship running aground in your back yard! How dare you make them remove it!
I live in Duluth and i hate the bridge when it is up because they raise the bridge when the ship is about a mile away and then they wait for the boat to be a mile away after it leaves to lower the bridge.

I have been stuck in traffic that was backed all the way up onto Third street before Lake ave when the ships come in...what a mess!

@mrjr73 they lift it early in case the bridge can't lift for some reason so the boat has time to stop.
