@charmedfreek1 She's a "comedienne" that appeared in a bunch of stuff with Weird Al, plays the accordion, and supposedly dated Emo Phillips. Yeah, that's it.
@charmedfreek1 Judy = Judy Tenuta - got a lot of press in the 90s with a stand-up comedy act. If I remember right she would be carried in on a litter and tell people to worship her and practice Judy-ism. She's done a variety of things since.
why does everyone think this version sucked? granted, i was young when it was on and hadn't ever seen the original, but i LOVED this too! Vicki was a great player and she and Judy were very funny. Even if Judy was over the top.
I'm glad I didn't catch much of the Match Game '98 revival when it originally came on. Judy must have been like this throughout the entire run. Hey, Brett Somers and Charles Nelson Reilly didn't need to have the camera on them all the time to be funny.
You are right on both counts - Vicki was the only holdover from the Rayburn years, and Nell was from the Ross Shaffer version - other than that, it was pure hell from day one! I think Vicki regretted being on this show, and thank God Brett, Charles, and the others from the 70's version decided to pass on this version of the show - a real black eye for Mark Goodson Productions!
The host of this dreck was Michael Burger, who was the co-host of the "Mike & Maty" ABC talk show in the mid 90's, and the second host of "Family Challenge" after Ray Combs in 1995.
Oh cuz he was terrible and I understand why the original group on the match game celebs never went on this version. Just like that new card sharks they made in 2001. I would have more excitement in sleeping during this 30 minutes of failing television than actually watching it.
When I heard they were bringing back "Match Game" in 97 -- I was working in television and suggested to our program director that we acquire it for our daytime schedule.
Thankfully, for whatever reason we didn't get it.
I wanted to like it. I TRIED to like it, but in the end I couldn't.
I remember thinking it was the worst revival of a classic game show ever. That is, until I saw "Card Sharks '01". (A new standard in BAD game shows.)
that judy woman is all shrieks and shouting, but she doesn't actually tell jokes, just hogs the limelight. lucky i'm australian and had never heard of her until now. will never hear of her again, either.
I agree - Michael Burger deserved 'the wrath of Vicki' more than Dick Clark did when she bitched him out on "Pyramid" a couple of times. We like Dick Clark - can't say the same about Michael Burger!
Sorry, Match Game was stupid regardless of what version or era. This clip was from Match Game '98, one of the biggest wastes of precious television airtime that was better off being filled with episodes of Seinfeld. Incidentally, Family Feud is another injured horse that needs a bullet between the eyes, as well, but that's another sermon.
The two best, damned Mark Goodson game shows, as far as I'm concerned, were "Blockbusters" and the Jim Perry hosted version of "Card Sharks."
I beg to different with you sir - "Match Game" was THE #1 show in daytime from 1973 to 1975, and the number one game show up to 1976. Just because this 'dreck' called "Match Game '98" was dug up in no means should tarnish the image of the beloved 70's CBS version, as well as the superior 1990 Ross Shaffer version.
This show was a disgrace. One of the worst game show revivals ever made. Stupid, pathetic, and perverted. Michael Burger is a bad game show host. He's a disgrace and a sick pervert. DO NOT watch any game show he hosts. Judy Tenuta she was annoying and a disgrace. I love Vicki Lawrence and I felt bad that she was on this disgraceful revival. She has a great established reputation in TV. She is a true classic TV star. Michael Burger and Judy Tenuta are nothing but disgraces to television.
Judy was one of the biggest problems I had with this version of MG! Not just her but "Five wonderful stars?!" (YEAH RIGHT!) Vicki was the only person with extensive MG experience! Michael Burger (the host on this version) had no control over the panel, the cheap-wad $5,000 as top prize, lame pun-laden category questions in favor of A & B, which gave some of the players an unfair disadvantage.
Cause Pearson Television didn't have the funds to make this show - that's why it went back in time to 1973 with the cash amounts, but NOT with the show's quality!
I don't know about that - Vicki was also a panelist on two weeks of the Rayburn version of "MG", a semi-regular panelist on "MG '90", and a recurring guest celebrity on Dick Clark & John Davdison's versions of "Pyramid", as well as "Password Plus" and "Super Password." On top of that, she was the host of "Win, Lose, Or Draw" on NBC from 1986 to 1988.
You're right on the dates for "WLoD", but I still think that Vicki had more experience on that '98 panel than the rest had all together (including host Michael Burger!)
damn i miss Judy Tenuta!

Is it me, or is Judy a camera/attention hog? I can only imagine what she was like in 4th grade.
