Could you set it so you only practice the Chinese characters? Does it allow you to practice semi-cursive? Writing Chinese beautifully is pleasurable but pen and paper are not always on hand. This game has a good concept. Unfortunately, this game seems to be oriented toward kids and I'm not at all impressed with the aesthetics. It should be named "How not to write ugly characters" rather than "Beautiful Character Training". But it's a nice start. There should be more games like it.

Do you have any idea why none of the games that have been made to teach people how to write in Japanese have not had the directions for them translated yet? I learn by doing things, so unless they have the directions in English, the games are of no use to me...XC But I don't want to learn the wrong stroke order, so I'm kind of in a pinch here...Do you happen to know if they have released anything for the DS for teaching how to write in Japanese with directions in other languages?

@KunaiYouki 2 main reasons i can think are: 1* small markets. even if you think world-scale, people learning japanese who ALSO own a ds AND would buy this kind, are not that many. and 2* this is practice software, more than teaching. you see japanese ppl practicing their writing, memory, or numbers from time to time on the train and such.

again, this is what I think are the main reasons.

This game is hard to undertand? I mean.. you need know a lot of japanese to pratice kanjis? It gives to you what mean each kanji in hiragana or katakana for example or you already need know all those kanjis?

Is this Bimoji Training? I wanna get it, but there is only a Japanese version. I know around 150 kanji, all hiragana and katakana, and medium words and grammar and stuff. Will I get around easily this game with that knowledge XD? Can I see the on yomi/kun yomi readings for each kanji?

Can't wait to get this game, will allow me to brush up and keep busy with learning whilst at college and out and around, 3-4 hours of practice a day can be rough when there is other things to do :/

This game looks really good. i've learnt quite alot of katakana from My Japanese Coach (a brilliant game if your an avid Japanese fan and dying to learn the basics of their language) and i think i need to train in how i write, its hard for it to look good, especially on the DS.

is there like a game for nintendo for LEARNING japanese kanji or somethin? i mean and writing them

for hiragana, katakana or kanji

i want to get a nintendo but only if theres a game like that for me

cause if u bought what u just played, i couldnt read the buttons of "play"and "revieuw"and stuff

i only recognise some easy kanji and hiragana...

My Japanese Coach but if your level of Japanese is good. It's only good for learning new kanji and vocabularies. At least that's how I did with it. ;_; it was annoying going to the learning process of learning Katakana and hiragana again when I already know them.

So the game comes with a pen that allows pressure sensitivity? Or can you use a regular stylus with it?

It comes with a Japanese brush stylus that allows you to write like you saw here.

Is the stylus any different from the DS Stylus? or does this one allow pressure only for this game?

The brush stylus that comes with this game does not add pressure sensitivity; You can use the DS stylus in the same way.

NX6292, I have a question. (I'm not very good with stroke order xD) Which kanji rule (might be for katakana and hiragana too, I don't know) over powers the other:

Up down

or

Left to Right

or Middle Stroke first

That has always confused me.

I dont know the exact name but if you google "kanji kentei DS" you'll find it. It is very useful for learning kanji.

俺も美文字を持っている。超楽しい。俺の書き方が下手ですけどソ­フトから色々なことを学んでいる。"上の上"が二回で当てた。"­特の上がまだ。日本人じゃないでも漢字が面白いと思う。

(I also have the game. It's really fun. My penmanship is not good, but I'm learning many things. I've been able to get the 2nd highest mark twice, still haven't got the highest. I'm not Japanese, but I think kanji is interesting.)

I HIGHLY suggest this software to anyone who has love for kanji. I even have small competitions with the Japanese teachers I work with. :)
