The MG42 was more accurate, lighter, and had less jamming problems. Notice how every MG in the american army after ww2 has been based off the MG42? American tech during ww2 sucked.

While it was very accurate and reliable the US's standard issue weapon the M1 Garand proved that putting more rounds downrange was often more important and effective. The M2 and MG42 are also too different to compare (IMO). The MG42 may be better as an infantry support HMG, but the M2 may be better as a car/tank/plane mounted MG. The Germans had some amazing weaponry, but the US and it's allies did as well.

You're a fucking moron man, bullet size isn't everything, in fact it makes the browning worse. It can't hold as much ammunition, it's less accurate, and it jams more. The browning was netorious among American troops for being a piece of shit. It was often traded off for MG42s when they could be salvaged from dead German troops.

I give up you're clearly a troll. The .50 = big, inaccurate, extra recoil, little difference in terms of strength, more prone to jamming. Bottom line the mg42 was more accurate, could hold more ammo, almost never jammed, and had a faster fire rate.

The 42 is more then large enough to do that and even if it didn't why would it matter? Obliterating your target is just messy. The .50 wouldn't stand a chance against Armor, only infantry. So why do you need such a large, bulky, and in efficient round. All it does is make it less accurate, make it hold less, make it jam more.

The 42 would be the one that wouldn't stand a chance against armor. The .50 Caliber is an extremely accurate round, it has to be. Explain why snipers use it to make kill shots at over a mile away. Sure, it doesn't carry as many rounds, but when that .50 Caliber round goes off, everyone down-range shits their pants and runs.

The biggest bullet available is about 200 gr.(!). The rof is double, but the 8mm Mauser is 3.5 times smaller than the 50.
