  • LOVE IT!

  • mannn u guyz r da bomb, go hawaians :)

    hot guyz though

  • mannn u guyz r da bomb, go hawaians :)

  • Great job!

  • I don't mind when people try to learn Samoan dances as long as it's an attempt to learn more about the culture, so this is pretty cool. It's weird though, but I hate it when Samoans try to learn hula or tahitian dance because a lot of the time (Samoan) youngsters these days prefer other dances over their own culture. Overall? It doesn't matter. We're all Oceania (or at least that's the way of thinking I hope to maintain). X)

  • cool video. glad you're HAWAIIAN. got bored with your explanation tho. from one Hawaiian to another...NO NEED TO EXPLAIN YOURSELF TO ANYONE! this is the internet...if you don't want rude comments, TURN EM OFF. you must have great parents to send you to punahou and so i'm almost convinced the same parents that made that sacrifice for you taught you that the world is not perfect.

  • your comment just killed the fun of watching this video...

  • Comment removed

  • well try enjoying it and saving your negative comments for the "person who posted it" and send them a message directly rather putting nonsense up on here.

  • talofae!!how about reading the other comments before you go posting a negative one. I tutor Samoan Siva for a primary school and 2 high schools, born in the islands but moved to NZ when I was 5yrs and continued to embrace the Fa'aSamoa. These students should be applauded for the effort they have put into their performances. As Samoans we should be proud and honoured that our culture is still alive. how about u uploading a demo since you are such an expert. Malo faamalosi.

  • nice ofu's.

    love the colors:)

    oh&the siva was

  • not bad for da mix race but i prefer da real sugaz n solez 2 do da samoan dance... den ur see da real samoan trditional dance comez out... but again, thatz just me... -_- white power!!!

  • Its good to see all cultures coming together and embracing each others background. I try and not be judgemental but it is in my nature, cant be helped. I applaud the girls and guys who took the time and patience to learn this Samoan dance. Thank you for performing it with the grace and passion it deserves.

  • This is such a beautiful dance..

    keep up the good work..

    and dw about the haterz...

    rep it hard girl..!!

  • WTF??? What controversy??? Dis is beautiful!!! I HOPE to marry a samoan teine!!!

  • lol dis is a crack up!!!ccchhhhooohhhooo!!! luvn it!!

Faasamoa- breathe it, accept it, learn from it!!

  • jus wanted to say our culture is beautiful, and you can't keep a beautiful thing like that locked up and tied down...we're proud people, and im proud that these kids took the time to share our culture in this form the best way they could...even tho their not samoan... i'm samoan and am flattered that other folks are intrested in our culture... especially young folks like your selves... =) proud of ya'll.... =)

  • Wish I was accepted even though I am 1/4 Samoan and look Filipino a bit more... I always get judged by my own people but I do not hate.. I still love them all!! See I can dance Hawaiian stlye better than Samoan but that is why you practice practice practice!!

  • omg i wish i could do samoan for holoku.

but im in tahitian so i can't :(

it looks like so much fun though

  • this from samoa (dot) usembassy (dot) gov: "Migrants from SOUTH EAST ASIA arrived in the Samoan islands more than 2,000 years ago and from there settled the rest of Polynesia further to the east."...located under the "History of Samoa"

  • malo le faafiafia...two thumbs up and Im so proud to see these high school kids get involved in activities like these. It makes them better people when they grow up.

  • america-sa' moa?

  • Maaaate..im from NZ and this was pretty cool!!...the girlz in this vid are the real reason for the controversy!!! Gurlz are preeetty fiine..."peow,peooow"..lol...choice!!!

  • I think it was really good, and I wish my school did something like that.

Not everyone will agree with how the dance turned out, but at least you did learn some of it. And you guys got to put in a bit of your modern selves.

Its not really traditional, but its creative, and its really very good in my opinion.

    Good job. :]

  • Well despite the controversy over the video I thought it was a beautiful dance. I understand the sacredness of dance and how native cultures have struggled to preserve them over time. I'm a Mexica (aka Aztec) dancer myself and there are many dances we do that are sacred. But at the same time, IMO openness is key so that other cultures can understand our cultures and appreciate rather than persecute. Good job, beautiful dancing.

  • This was really cool. As a Tongan from the family of a hou'eiki (of noble birth), I can understand why some purists might be offended, the siva teine is a sacred dance, it is a dance to respect the ancestors, it is a form of respect, love and honor for those who came before us, much like the Hula Kaahiko and the Tongan Ma'ulu'ulu. Still, we live in modern times and this is a modern interpretation of a cultural dance. I loved it, but I can understand why some in Samoans may be outraged. Malo Atu

  • ummm we stil kinda do ...lol

  • i dont kno y people have a problem with the last part of siva........... aren't we samoans about being fun n humble........ so y don't u haterz b humble n stop talkin bad....... who sed we can't add flavor............ jus appreciate they took it to another level

  • Great job kids, no one can say a samoa kid should not break dance if he can't do it right, or samoa girl should not dance hula if she can't do it right, and you kids are expanding your field of expertise in other cultural dances. congratulation well done music and dancing are universal language

  • It was decent up until the end...

then you did some sort of siva meets step routine and I wasn't feeling it...

I felt it was kinda offensive. Keep in mind that its another culture's dance....its like me doing a hula and tryna put in break dancing, it doesn't work.

  • good job guys!

  • ...So I suggest instead of putting down others just because they're not upt to your standard then you should just look at yourself and ask yourself are you really up to anyone's standard. Who do you think you are judging? If you don't have constructive criticism then please don't waste the air or fa'apipilo it with your 2 cents worth!

  • What? Samoan dance may be quite the entertainment, but it has no mathematical, engineering, and scientific answers to help with society's woes. Plus when did any polynesian nation win any gold medel in any major olympics? Why would one be jealous of that?

  • Hey, I respect your freedom of speech, so as long as you respect my rights to freedom of speech. Fa'afetai Lava.

  • I'm human being fearfully and wonderfully created in the image of God just like you...not from some false gods named Maui or Tagaloa, or whatever.

  • I agree.

    :)

I don't know any Samoan who still believes in that crap...

  • Oooh Flip what's up with the haterators in here! All of a sudden some smart asses want to be PC about it! Who said anything about Margaret Mead? They're in the States at least they're trying and at least they love their culture. It's not about who can do it best bla bla bla bla. Samoan culture isn't only about actions and how to get a Siva right it's also about the heart and knowing who you are....

  • This from KANUHA86 in another video site. But I thought it's interesting, so I wanted to include it here. In regards to the Samoan knife, metalwork is not part of the culture, so he said, "true the weapon was actually a club, but with western influence, the club became the knife, and the dance was known as the siva nifo oti, most of the basic fire knife moves is actually war moves. fire was added to the knife in 1965 by chief letuli after he met asians on tour and saw them dancing with fire"

  • yes ur right sasrepz88 ive seen lots of samoan dances her in NZ and id say dat does dances r very cool even dat im not samoan (im a filipino)

id really say dat samoans r very cool like my boyfriend

  • man i swear all yall r so gud doing samoan dancing even though sum ov all anit samoan im still proud 2 c otha culturesz doiin n learning da samoan dance chooooooo hooooooo keep up da gud work yall chooooooo hooooooo

  • Nice work Ilima!!!you sure showed the guys hahaha malo le fa'afiafia!!!

  • This is for a high school right? lol what's all the fuss about if it's just for a school thing. I agree with Kichilyly. But I also agree with AkeNia (to a point). I think if you (apikiflower) go to a mainland college and participate in a luau via Hawaii/Poly Club, you'll see that it WILL matter if the dances are done right. In many cases, dance shows are the only form of education ppl get re: poly culture and it's important to stick to authenticity.

Other than that, you kids did great. :)

  • i wan beast dance!not like this

  • there doing it all wrong thats not how the real fa samoans dance~~~~~ SORRY THOUGH

AT LEAST THEY TRIED THERE BEST

  • Well, wif watchin dis its vry USA & PCC. I'm thinkin vry "Margaret Mead"-putting it out dea 2 entertain wat da Western Wrld wnts- rada displayin da beauty & gracefulness of Samoan dancing.Wen it comes 2 da Samoan culture, dea is NO OPEN mind 2 it! becos if we do,we wld end up lke da Hawaiians-LOST WIFOUT A CULTURE!Nxt time ring Samoa or da Akld,NZ colleges (High Schools) nd dey wil snd u a dvd on hw it is REALLY DONE - & whilst you're at it,delete dis crap off- its giving Samoans a bad name!

  • Look we are samoans now and thats all that matters! if you are samoan then you would know that we are totally diffrent from asians. we are super saiyans hahahaa fuck the past man look forward into the future. dont even know why you worry bout dat shit for man!

  • If you don't care to look at the past, then why all the traditional Samoan dances from the past? If you insist on not forgetting traditional Samoan dance, then you must not forget where the Samoans truly came from: South East Asia.

  • lol

    last dance was kool

    samoans rep![tofa]

  • that was a great video. i am glad to see all the different people dancing...its good that they are open to new experiences! the last dance was great. it made me smile.

  • who gives a shit! SAMOA MO SAMOA!!!! are any of you two samoans? kefe ia ou lua!!!!!!!

  • AFAKACI, I know the truth hurts, but you'll see that with Archaelogical evidence, linguistic similarities, and especially mitochondrial DNA testing, you'll that Samoans are from South East Asia (S.E.A.) hey it's the truth, and educated Anthropologist, Geneticists, and Archaeologists do "give a shit"

  • this from samoa (dot) usembassy (dot) gov: "Migrants from SOUTH EAST ASIA arrived in the Samoan islands more than 2,000 years ago and from there settled the rest of Polynesia further to the east."...located under the "History of Samoa"

  • Those coordinates point to Samoa. Sorry try again for HAVAIKI...realistically speaking.

  • this from samoa (dot) usembassy (dot) gov: "Migrants from SOUTH EAST ASIA arrived in the Samoan islands more than 2,000 years ago and from there settled the rest of Polynesia further to the east."...located under the "History of Samoa"

  • Repetitive bore. I applaud your elusive tactic of copy & paste. Brava, repetitive bore. Brava, repetitive bore.

  • Like I asked you before, if you find it boring, why read and comment it?

  • And like I said before, and allow me to apply your method of reasoning here, "... there is no TRUTH at all about the Samoan culture SPEWING FORTH from any wretched corner of your face..." That is why I read and comment, Herr Hirnmeister. You are a flop and a bad one at that. Your ramblings about the Samoan people have been uncovered as such and you have no more to say. Again here I answer another one of your billion ridiculous questions and you have yet to answer one of mine.

  • Okay, then you tell me the origins of the Samoans...please oblige me.

  • Pure idiocy. Like anybody with at least half a brain I've never given you any of my own hypotheses or personally theories to accept on your own behalf. So go run along and oblige yourself. I have other suggestions, but since you said "please," I guess that one will have to do. Unlike you I am not interested in pushing fiction as fact, speculation as foundation, or lies as truth. I've given you a plethora of different theoretical takes, now go learn how to read so you can decipher them yourself.

  • TAUTUAKIDD, Just as I thought. You will not give your personal explanations of the origins of Samoans, because you know it to be true, and yet it would pain you to comment it. You have the Freedom of Speech to say whatever you want of me, but know that you comments are futile and irrational. Anybody who reads this would agree with me on the evidences that Samoans are descendants of South East Asians (S.E.A.) based on linguistic, DNA links, archaelogical, and cultural similiarities.

  • Just as I thought. You've been oblivious to everything I've posted, and you still are. Scan through the last couple pages, all it takes is a few clicks; you're used to it, this is how you conduct your research. One click here, another click there. I've asked you what you know of Havaiki: NO RESPONSE. The Lau Islands? NO RESPONSE. A whole list of words that are purely Samoan in origin. NO RESPONSE. The history of the TATAU. NO RESPONSE. Like I said. Go learn how to read, and then come back, kid.

  • Pretty much your comments deserve a cut and paste, because I would actually be repeating myself to you from the previous discussion we just had at the video site of "Polynesian Origins" which is a good video for anyone to watch by the way. Uh, you're wrong, I did give those response based on my studies, you just choose not to even read them out of painful ignorance. Go back and see for yourself. You won't even bring yourself to answer my question as how do you think the Samoans came to be...

  • You have not addressed Havaiki, and yes that is out of your own painful ignorance. You have not addressed the Lau Islands, and again that is out of your own painful ignorance. You have not addressed the whole list of worlds which are purely Samoan in origin and entirely integral to Samoan culture, and that of course is out of your own painful ignorance. Go back and see yourself. Your answer as to where you think the Samoans came to be is just as unfounded as this assertation. Jackass.

  • And where exactly is Havaiki on the map? Realistically speaking....

  • Latitude: 13° 34' 60 S, Longitude: 172° 25' 0 W - realistically speaking.

  • Those coordinates point to Samoa. Sorry try again for HAVAIKI...realistically speaking.

  • BTW, did you know HAVAIKI, is an old Austronesian word that translates to "LITTLE JAVA"?

  • But again it is the trademark of the ignorant. I've seen squirrels with greater attention spans than thee and all thou hast in thine knowledge.

  • But hell, that whole sentence probably just danced right across your ULO wearing a blazing pink tutu, leaving you open-mouthed with nothing but more cow dung to lap up for us. So by all means, be my guest. And put your whole ULO into it.

  • TAUTUAKIDD, ooooh, ouch. So much degradation, coming from you. Don't hate, pass on love. And I'll pass on the truth. But focus on so much hate. Couldn't we discuss this from a professional standpoint. If you persist casting hate because I'm telling the truth, then I must no long read and just keep on posting more facts about the origins of Samoans. So how about it? Are you going to keep on throwing such hateful remarks.? Or do I have to ignore further comments?

  • Anyone with the literary success of a four-year-old could see quite easily that you are not "passing on the truth." Why in your dictionary does it omit the words SPECULATION, THEORY, INCONCLUSIVE, and IGNORANT? The last one is the key to any to your success. Any person with a firing neuron has the intrinsic right to be hateful toward the ignorant statements of the ignorant. So how about it? Seek some professional reading lessons? All you've done is ignore the value of my comments.

  • Or perhaps if you actually respond to the actual points that are still sitting pretty with no response. Every repulsive thing that has dribbled from your low-frequency brainwaves has been uncovered and smashed to bits and pieces. However your status as an intellectual pebble has kept you from saying anything relevant to the points well out of your jurisdiction. For someone who surfs the net so much, you'd think you'd find the decency to read what has been said and respond in like manner.

  • And nobody is "saying otherwise." And by the way, I'm glad you finally posted something that doesn't make the English language seem like an extra terrestrial being that just landed on your ULO. But as your writing skills have flown across a whole patch of grass, your reading "skills" are still groveling in maneur. My reference was not to your comments, but your excerpt in par-TIC-u-LARRR. Entiendas? Still you've missed the target. Perhaps if you shot with a metal arrow from South East Asia.

  • The bottom line is that you KNOW nothing, you THINK very little, and you BELIEVE in only the far-fetched. Now when you are actually willing to attack, debate, refute, acknowledge or by all means UNDERSTANNNNND any of my WOOOOORRRDS, then come back. Every flimsy point you've attempted to make has been smashed on theory alone. Now try one of mine. Perhaps the handy dandy notebook and the thinking chair is not working. So pick up a pen and pad and READ. And further your education, Smarty Pants.

  • continued for TAUTUAKIDD, of course everyone in this world have limited knowledge of their surroundings. And thank God for education. Education can help expand on what one may have in their knowledge, and boy did it expand on mine. And so I'm willing to share it with the world including the Samoans such as yourself. Hey I've proved my points with legitimate websites that explains it all. Read it for yourself, and there's more to come stay tuned...

  • The metal could have come from Uranus, and what's your point? And it is actually: "everyone HAS". And you can't HAVE anything "IN YOUR KNOWLEDGE," therefore you cannot "EXPAND ON WHAT YOU HAVE IN YOUR KNOWLEDGE." So boy, did it NEVER "EXPAND ON YOURRRRRRS." And who said I am Samoan? Is this just another one of YOUR ASS-UMPTIONS? You have not PROVEN your points with anything. You've only supported your FLIMSINESS with more FLIMSINESS which is in any case not support at all.

  • Yes thank God for Education but apparently yours has not expanded as you claimed to be. Because you do not see the big picture. You are reading off of other people's findings, which we do not care to read again from you. We've read them all but the fact of the matter is, there is no UNIVERSAL AGREEMENT like the metric system or Euro. Why? Because it's not ABSOLUTE, it's not a FACT. This has been going on for years and years and it's 2008.

  • HONEYGIRL206, these are not just the findings of the "white man", these are findings of the international community of Anthropologists, which includes Samoans themeselves. How is it that I'm not finding the big picture? So then, tell me again where do you think Samoans come from again...

  • continued for TAUTUAKIDD, and just a reminder with a capitalized point: this from samoa (dot) usembassy (dot) gov: "Migrants from SOUTH EAST ASIA arrived in the Samoan islands more than 2,000 years ago and from there settled the rest of Polynesia further to the east."...located under the "History of Samoa"

  • Your capital letters only capitalize on your ignorance, which is quite a feat considering you've already xaapeta and fell into it a million times. Whoever typed that little excerpt there has just as much ABSOLUTE - ARE YOU READING? - ABSOLUTE, CONCLUSIVE, IRREVOCABLE - ARE YOU KEEPING UP WITH WHAT YOU HAVE IN YOUR KNOWLEDGE? - DEFINITIVE, UNDENIABLE FAAACCCCTTTSSSSSS as YOUUUU. Which amounts to zero. So please. Brush your teeth before you return again with all that thou hast IN thine knowledge.

  • TAUTUAKIDD, wow...lots of capitalized anger I see...so, okay already, if you see my comments as, and I quote (as I cut and paste your comments): "Whoever typed that little excerpt there has just as much ABSOLUTE - ARE YOU READING? - ABSOLUTE, CONCLUSIVE, IRREVOCABLE - ARE YOU KEEPING UP WITH WHAT YOU HAVE IN YOUR KNOWLEDGE? - DEFINITIVE, UNDENIABLE FAAACCCCTTTSSSS" then I'll keep posting for folks like HONEYGIRL206, or some other Samoans that say otherwise. Be proud to be Austronesian, not mad.
