  • and the gov too

  • fuck the soda tax

  • Isn't it interesting how a tax can be glamorized as heroic? Taxes go into the wages of politicians. Sin taxes are a perverse incentive to broaden the definition of "sin". I drink alot of soda. I am not fat. An inactive lifestyle is the biggest contributor to obesity.

Not every pepsi drinker is fat. This sin tax would affect thin soda consumers, as well. I seriously doubt, this sin tax on soda will end in NY. Other states will see this as a potential revenue

    When did taxation become moral?

  • @riverlioness any tax levied against the people for any reason besides raise funds, is a corruption.

current tax code has so many incentives to tax people less for "good" behavior, and tax them more for "bad".

the us tax code is corrupt beyond repair, but no one says anything because... are you sure you payed all your taxes? you willing to have tax lawyers figure out that one thing you messed up on and put your ass in jail for it? we all have that one thing, and wont speak out because of it.

  • if pepole want to be fat let them be fat !!

why the fuck is america telling us what we can and can"t eat its BULL!!!

NY will tax you to breeth soon

  • @99boyz ahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahhahahahhahahahahahahhahahahhhahahhahahaahhahahahhahahahhaahhahhhahahahhahahahahhahahahha and the pounds you throw away on the bath hahahahahahhahahahahhahahha

  • I don't drink soda anymore.

  • Libertarians should move to New Hampshire. Leave NY to the big government whiners.

  • I think they're going to tax us until they break our backs or until......?

  • this is stupid! What the fuck is sin tax? Soon eating fucking potatoes will result in sin tax! What if every time some fucking senator jerks off while practicing his speech in the front of a mirror, we will charge him sin tax? Fuck them! I am not paying them to implement their ideas for the "greater good", whatever the fuck it is! This is an extortion wrapped in some religious/self-richeous package!

  • lol soda runs across state borders.

  • tax all old people passed the age of 30 because they just make the healthcare go up... either they exercise too much and hurt themselves or they are too fat because they don't exercise or they are just too old. old people make us waste gas when they drive because they drive too slow... i think if we brought the gas prices to 17 dollars a gallon it would help the environment out and stop the pollution

  • Tax younger people who don't know the difference between past and passed.

  • This what I think of the soda tax (Blow Razzberry)

  • Here's how it will go down. Over the objections of the supermarket chains, bodegas, and so on, the "obesity tax" will pass. NYS is desperate for money. Consumption will drop, and NYS won't get its projected $400 million in additional revenue. Rather than rescind this silly tax, they'll raise it year-to-year in small increments - to 20%, then 22%, and soon your $1 soda will cost $2. But once the public is resigned to the concept of "obesity" taxes, there will be a slew of new taxes.

  • Libertarian Eric Sundwall is running for U.S. Congress!!! The seat is the 20th District of the State of New York!!! This is a special election to fill the unexpired term of Kirsten Gillibrand. This is necessary because she was appointed to fill the U.S. Senate seat of Hillary Clinton, who was appointed U.S. Secretary of State. This election will be on Tuesday March 31st!!! By winning, he would make American history, by becoming the first Libertarian 'ever' elected to U.S. Congress!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ...ie. force Soda manufactures to display a small label health warning or something on a can if it's unhealthy and a public health problem etc..... If the government were more concerned with public health and less with tax increases... I feel a label would be more effective in telling consumers the actual health risks than a hiked price.

  • I drink 100% milk/water and 0% soda. I am healthy and fit, and love to run. But I disagree with this ridiculous tax increase. I don't know to me it feels like the government is trying to decide for me and I don't like that. But man I love milk! I also feel many health problems are caused by malnutrition, etc. And yet doctors hand out "medicines" that don't prevent the problem of living unhealthy but rather "cure" the effects. I feel that increasing public awareness would be most effective

  • If this individual was slimmer\in better shape he might not object as much to a tax targeted to reduce obesity!!!!

  • Taxation without representation, that's what this is. This law will never pass.

  • Governor Patterson also wants to add a state sales tax to health club memberships! Google it, they aren't talking about that one. Where is the Doctors video on the benefits of the health club tax?

  • As soon as you make the government responsible for your health, you surrender your right to self-determination. Your rights will be flushed away one after the other. People who don't see this are blind.

  • nice call on the individual choice.

    1. the most common cause of obesity is over eating and not exercising if you wanted to do something about it then have people go jog for 30 minutes a day.

    2. this is a tax targeted on the lower class statistics show that the lower class eats more unhealthy food. Why because its cheep and thats what they can afford.

3 why should I be taxed if I am not over weight?

  • The tax isn't stoping people from choosing or using their free will. It might however make them consider not buying as much soda. If it doesn't, well hey, gov makes more money and people are still overweight.

  • It's a punishment for making a choice of which they don't approve. It's coercive at its core - they simply have no right to tell people what they 'should' eat.

  • but they arn't telling people what they should eat. think of it as a good buisness decision. they know people are addicted to soda, they need more money... so simple economics... make money off our addiction. they can hide behind it like its them trying to help our health...lol. but its really about making money. ;)

  • Of course they are. If you tax one food and not another, you are coercing people. Their stated intent is to get people to drink less pop. Of course it's also a cash grab, like any sin tax. But more importantly it's an attempt to govern behavior.
