My Great Uncle "Major G.H. Scott" died in the R-101 crash. He was Captain of the Famous R-34 Airship that was the first air crossing of the Atlantic Ocean. "W.R. Gent" also went down with the R-101 and died, he was from the crew of the R-34. These guys were Great Airmen! Thanks for this video!!
There is of course nothing like a sweeping generalisation from the position of ignorance to make you look a fool. Well done Mike for ably demonstrating that point...
Luckily you aren't typical of the wonderfull Canadian people,at least not the one's I have met ! You have one comment on your homepage I see, it says "You Suk"! Sums you up in one.
Certainly they were more effective at getting things done, especially in times of trouble and crisis. You can hear this man being very detached, very calm, as he speaks about a scene of terrible destruction, of being very practical when there. He likely paid a very high price for that practicality, as did many back then. It is a shame society has not yet learned how to reduce the cost without reducing such a spirit.
Control surfaces were undersized, hence not effective enough. This was just as true on the R100 which weighed a lot less. The crew almost lost it in a downdraft on the Montreal flight. More control surface area would have required a whole hull redesign with more lift aft. LTA could make sense now that we have satellite weather.
R-101 was a bad design, overweight, badly stressed when it flew, they were warned not to undertake the flight, but did anyway. Aviation History has a great article on the R-101 what a tragedy! where do you get these videos??
Had never heard about this event. Thanks bomberguy!

@48alfaone Major Scott was indeed a great aviator! Poor Scotty, sacrificed to Lord Cardington's ambitions, as were they all
