I used to like this film as a kid. Now I realise I must have been gong through a homosexual phase. There in talks about making a sequel for 2013. But seen as air combat dosent really happen anymore what would the storyline be? Maverick and friends head over to Iraq to drop some bombs and hurry back to oil each other up to a Berlinda Carlile song and have a quick game of volleyball before tea. See what I mean.

@chrisbrown456 It was such a big film in the 80's what ever they do it will be hyped up then fail badly. Its like when Michael Mann made the miami vice film in 2006. All the fans from the definitive 80's series were like WTF?!!!! I'd leave it alone Cruise said he would never do it a few years ago but now he has fallen down the Hollywood A list rank a few notches he will do films like this and worse probably as his films dont take in as much as they did ten- fifteen years ago.

An accident similar to the one portrayed happened in 1983, with both pilot and RIO ejecting safely, but there have been cases in which the crew died, because they ejected outside the safety envelope or because they struck parts of the aircraft. Even "0-0" does not mean you can eject at any time.
