  • Looks like a poor man's Descent if you ask me. Was it released prior to Descent 2?

  • love the music

  • Holy shit... Descent clone much?

  • Oh god, I remember this! This is the first game I secretly played behind my parents' back.

  • kids this is what we used to play when we were 8-9 years old :D

  • so much nostalgia...

  • My first addictive game. G-Nome was second.

  • heh, I remember my dad had this on his windows 95 but he wouldn't allow me to play it. I have thus never gotten to play it properly, instead I only had the choice of pacman, which got boring after a while

  • The memories I have with this game...

All the places he went in this video just kind of set off that nostalgic part of my brain. It's like a memory you can feel more than you can see.

  • Terminal Velocity was awesome too.

  • Dangit, games were more fun when I was a kid :-(

  • shitier version of descent

  • I remember this. I loved Terminal Velocity; there was no reason not to like this game or Fury3, as they all played the same. Awesomely. :D

  • This game was awesome back in the day, and still is. Hard to play though...

  • first game i bought new lol

  • Mannnn remember playing this about 12 years ago when I was 7 and thinking that the thing in the middle was some kind of freaky alien rather than a hand on a joystick... Don't know whether I'm pleased or disappointed to find out...

  • Oh man I just realized that the joystick in the center of the screen was not in fact, my turtle copilot.

  • EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • freaking loved this game. played it on my pentium 1 computer with a sidewinder joystick.

  • Loved this game!

  • Looks like Descent only better... ;)

  • yes I do. And i love Gillian Anderson <3 (:

  • I can remember being 2 years old and sitting on my dad's desk watching him play this. 14 years later I found the cd and got it to work on my computer. (I understand the plot a lot better now too)

  • tbh clone of decent

  • this game is so epic but i need a lower pc to play it :(

  • wow, this was the game I played in when i was 4 years old....o.o AWESOME!

  • This was actually the first game to use Direct3D.

But in this video, you will only see the software rendered version.

Set it in a compatibility mode and then Direct3D will work

  • WIKI EVEN SAYS:

    /wiki/Hellbender_(video_game) 1995-1996

  • could you change that to 1995

no offense...you're just wrong about the year.

  • @zero1gmv

I thought hellbender got released in 1996.

  • @Blu3hand bro i wouldn't shit you...please change the year.

do i need to send you a microsoft games link?

  • @Blu3hand Hellbender is a PC video game developed by Terminal Reality in 1995–1996 and released by Microsoft in 1996, as the sequel to Fury3. A demo version of the game was included on later CD-ROM versions of Windows 95.

    The demo was out 1995.

  • @zero1gmv

sorry but it really was released in 1996. The demo wasn't out in 1995. It was included in >later< cd-rom versions of win95, this doesn't means win95 didn't exist in 1996.

  • @Blu3hand maybe i did confuse it with terminal velocity. my bad. :P

  • @Blu3hand this game was released in 1995

  • I thought it looked a lot like Fury 3. I never realised there was an actual sequel... It seems to be more like Descent in terms of gameplay though.

  • I got utterly lost playing this game. But it was so worth it.

  • Legendary game. Guys, how can I find this game if I have no CD? Where? Thank YOU for your attention!

  • Love this game so much, i gotta find my CD to this, i still have it somewhere ;P

  • This game was so freakin' BEAST. Oh my God, man! So nostalgic watching this!

HAMMERHEAD MISSILES! LEGION MISSLES!!! PEWPEW BAM! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

And not to mention Multiplayer mode. :)

  • damn. remember the legion missiles? they threw four rockets in one.

  • Been looking for this game for almost a year, THANK YOU!

  • @oobermybeer I've still got it on CD!<3

  • Man, I absolutely loved this game, and still do. I always ended up completely lost in the tunnels though, damn they were confusing, heh.

  • Damn I loved this game! Practically first "computer game" I ever played.

I remember watching my dad play this game on our joystick and I BEGGED him to let me try.

    The rest was history.

  • @josef006 that is the EXACT same memory i have of this game he was as addicted to gaming then as i am now

    ^^ lol

  • @josef006 yea me too -

i used to jerk and shoot my joystick all over the screen while

the character jerked and shot his joystick all over the screen

  • It's like descent...

  • The ship's computer is voiced by actress Gillian Anderson, best known as Agent Dana Scully from The X-Files.

  • SLEDGEHAMMER ROCKETS! PEWPEPWPEWPEWPEW. fuck this game was awesome.

  • Man rember dicking around on this game when I was 7... lol truly a classic

  • I finally found my original fury 3 cd. ^^

  • @Blu3hand

that's extremely leet... i think i have mine too somewhere

  • That takes me back...

  • I understood this game when I was 7...but now that I'm 14...it doesnt make sense

  • this is the same stuff as FURY3 and TERMINALVELOCITY lol

  • I LOVE THIS GAME! Awesome music!

  • When Ship Computers said checkpoint reached then i recgnonized voice, Gillian Anderson was talking in this game as Ship Computer. If you dont know who is Gillian Anderson, She is was Actress in X Files as character Scully. Amazing,I just recgnonized voice.

I love how she talks :D

  • I remember using this game, but one day it was gone from my father's computer. I didn't know the name of this game until I searched videos of Fury³ and I saw this. Thanks a lot! Thanks! Man, how the time pass and pass. I should buy this game someday...

  • I still remember this level!

  • I hope your playing this game with your joystick guy! lulz

  • I couldn't find my old joystick so I had to do it with my keyboard.

  • with gillian anderson doing the voice of the computer lol

  • Ahh old memories... eeire, claustrophobic and totally kickass game!

  • is this a sequel to Fury 3?

damnit, brings back old school memories. I didn't even know i had played this before watching this video, but indeed i did when i was like 10 years old.

Anybody knows the game DKman or something? I can't remember the name correctly. It was some Guy with a mask made in triangle and a weird costume. He was able to launch nukes and had all kinds of weapon. Hell, he could even call a dog-like thingy from the sky to bomb his enemies. LMK if you know what I mean

  • MDK?

  • yeah that's it thanks

    gonna download it :P

  • Murder Death Kill

  • I seem to be unable to record this AMAZING game with FRAPS. Is there a way to record it with FRAPS or do I have to use Hypercam?

  • for which system?

  • Windows 95 I believe

  • $jord.nm$.ru/$hellbender$.7$z

    remove the dollar signs

  • Sometimes you have to press F4 a couple times to get it in fullscreen mode. Make sure you pick 640x480 and Use Hardware Accelerator in the options.

  • I'm having trouble getting this game to run in fullscreen mode.

I get screen tearing and corrupted graphics - I've tried switching off hardware acceleration, etc...

  • Same here. First I couldn´t run the game from the CD at all on my XP machine, then I copied the CD onto my harddisk and ran it from there with all the compatibility settings on windows95. Perhaps that might work for you.

  • Oh man! i remember this game during my first year in high school. Gillian Anderson provided the voice for the ships computer system!:))

  • lol, even uses the same explosions as descent.

  • Great!

I just got that game -sniff sniff-

I looked for it for like 1 month

First time i played it was when i got my PC when Windows 98 were new, and i got a CD with the Demo. Now i get if full and it beats LOTS of modern games.

  • I just played this a few days ago on my new computer. I have so much ram that the target strobes.

I never did figure out the point in getting the Bion technology.

  • There are secret parts like that hidden in a lot of levels. If you find them all and assemble them you get the superweapon for the endgame.

If you don´t want to wait: the cheat code for it is URAGONR.

That thing is so powerful ,however, that it actually takes a lot of fun out of the game.

  • how do i ripped off descent?

  • oh the joystick days....

  • The games that where simialr to this were Fury, Terminal Velocity (Which i still own amazingly) and descent which i have never heard of. BUt they msut all be great games

  • I only ever played the demo. Wish I could find the full game.

  • I found mine on ebay three months ago, after twelve years.

  • Ebay is your friend. That´s where I mound mine ;-)

  • Awesome game, but I never reached the end of the game, cause the last boss enemy couldn't be found. There was no possible path to him. I spent hours to get into there, but no change. I noclip cheat could have helped but at that time I was too small to even know that.

It came with my Microsoft Joystick, and I was 6-7 when I played it.

  • You have to shoot some almost hidden switches, or doors you have already shot once before. It also took me a long time to find the access, and I still couldn´t open all the doors.

  • I am doing that with my keyboard lol.

  • Hellbender came with my joystick. I spent several hundred hours with it since I saved up rockets and mines and did all only with rapidfire and lasers. Really absurd in retrospect.

  • yea descent and hellbender. a lot memories.

  • Wow...and I thought I was a bad pilot at this game back in my day;

I went crazy over it, though (I was eight at the time) I had even made a large cardboard box that you could sit inside with all the instrument panels. xD

  • Reminds me of Descent. lol

Thanks for the hires video upload.

  • Hehe, if you put the Game-CD into your CD Player you hear the Soundtrack :)

    Goooood memories, my first game

  • PS: Those Rocket-Ships SUCKED lol

  • Alot of the old games back in the day were like that. They were made to run the audio straight off the CD.

  • sweet hellbender. it had style, it had grace?

just lacking the classic feel of its fury3/tv brothers.

  • This game was my first game and I guess it got me ready for Descnet! Same style of game play except for the sliding motion.

  • Descent was better.

I had the demo of this and it was cool.

Another game just like this was Adrenix.

  • Oh man, I remember this game from when I was about six years old.

  • page for download this game for windous xp?
