You can't cut off the stock of any ar style rifle. The bolt comes back to closed position due to the hydraulic piston in the stock. This gun is piston driven and has its own spring which does the work of returning the bolt back to closed position.

There are a few piston AR variants that use a half-length bolt, and use a recoil spring on the operating rod. And it's not a hydraulic piston, but it's just a recoil buffer weight to keep the bolt from traveling too fast.

Take a look at the OA-93, or the LR-300. Both eliminate the buffer tube that the stock mounts to, and function ok without it.
