Are these "Sea Monkeys"? You don't see those anymore. But when I was a kid, they were pretty popular, along with ant colonies & some sort of crab, I think a Hermit Crab. I raised Sea Monkeys once or twice, but mine just got up to about 1/4" long & I got tired of them & flushed the whole town.

@BroZoneUnited You should have absolutely nothing but distilled water and the eggs before hatching time. After they hatch you can slowly add a little bit of water from an intact aquarium every day. Another way is to add this tea bag thing that comes with the kit. If you want to pot your Triops in an aquarium, make sure you slowly adjust them to the new water conditions.

man i want some now, i had them when i was younger but my mom let me take care of them to see if i was able and ready to take care of a real pet, but i failed they survived for like a week, and one morning i woke up, looked at the tank and they were all dead and i cried like a bitch lol

@CSK8productionz1 I messed up the first time too. Keeping the water conditions right isn't easy. Triops live short and fast. They eat a lot and produce a lot of waste. The water needs to keep populations of different bacteria and other organisms (microbes, plants/algae, etc.) to transform the waste into (eventually) oxygen. Google it!

Rule of thumb: 2 liters of water per Triops. Bigger tank = more stable water.

@repticular No, they are very regular. They're the species that come in kits. Their grandparents actually came from a kit.

@1989kimmie You can keep them with anything that's comfortable with the same water conditions. However, their new pals should have about the same size as the triops. If they're smaller they'll be eaten. If they're bigger they'll eat the triops.

hey i got a grow your own triops kit for christmas and i put half the eggs in and it said they will hatch within 48 hours and there is only a couple hours until the 48 mark and only 1 has hatched... someone please help me

@Flyboy0110 What's the status? Still only one? There can be many reasons for your Triops experiment to go wrong: water temperature, polluted water, too many minerals before they hatch, not enough minerals after they hatch, not enough light, not enough eggs, unclean tank, etc. etc.

It's possible that that one Triops ate all the others. Did you feed proteins right after they hatched? There's serious cannibalism going on right at hatch time.

I messed up the first time too. Keep trying!

I'm not sure as I have never used it on my triops but using some logic, I believe that the pump would suck up your triops.

@viewtifulethan90 You can use a water pump. Make sure it's not a strong one or it will suck the Triops in. Cover it with a piece of a net something. Most water pumps have have a sponge at the end. Just turn it on low and nothing will happen. I've used a water pump.

A water pump is a good idea! Something has to keep the water moving and preferably suck it through some kind of sponge (can also be plants or sand or something).

Fermenting Triops turds will turn into Ammonium acid which is deadly for the Triops so there have to be organisms that turn it into Nitrite and then into Nitrate and CO2 that will be consumed by the plants which will convert it into oxygen. I hope I'm not telling complete bullshit here. Someone please correct me If I'm wrong.

They lay eggs in about 8 days, I'm not sure if they reproduce sexually or asexually. If the tank is clean and the water is clean they should live from about a month to three months. So you should always have a tiny one, and an adult at least. :D

MrPangwang2, they reproduce both sexually and asexually. If there's a male around, they would prefer to "use" the male for genetic diversity.

You should never have a small one with a big one in the tank. The small one will be the big one's breakfast. :) Trust me I've seen it.
