Isn't it funny, all these mishaps are happening with the dumb ass drogue and probe systems? You don't see a flying boom screwing up like this. Go Air Force!
@sohcsarewicked No way. I'm a crew chief on KC-135s. The flying boom is much easier for reciever pilots. All they need to do is get close enough, then the boom operator does all the work. Once they're hooked in, they can move all around, as long as it's within the limits of the boom's movement. The boom also pumps way faster than a drogue does.
from the looks of this video, seems that most issues come from the use of probe and drogue, boom looks more safe right??? am no expert in the matter.

Had he not pulled back on the cyclic that hard and severed his own probe, the drogue would have gone straight into the rotor = dead crew

I think because they were on low power. You have to slow down considerably when you mid air refuel.

i was AVI with HMH-461 and we always had a saying about our 53's - If it aint leaking , dont fly on it!! that is why they are called shitters
