  • Maybe Meet The Residents by The Residents. But that's it.

  • Simply the greatest record. Ever. Nothing comes close. Not even Kid A.

  • radiohead kid a // talk talk laughing stock

  • @geoffmallan so i thought too, but its 'stair by idle stair' according to the all knowing web, even if my(and your) ears say different

I really really love this song.Something about the mind state reminds me of when I write poems.Something I must do but I cant do often.Because when I do, its all encompassing. 'stair by idle stair'

  • Laughing Stock is the greatest album ever recorded, closely followed by Spirit Of Eden. If you disagree, then you are wrong.

  • @lilacfoal Laughing Stock is the most brilliant thing any human has created over our hundreds of thousands of years of evolution.

  • stair by idle stair

  • @MrRichardmjenkins Yeah, it's "step by idle step" isn't it?

  • Every Talk Talk album is like a layer of onion, that was peeled off compared to the previous

That's why it shouldn't be taken as a surprise that this album was the last in the series

    Although more could be said

But whatever's next is no longer suitable to be fit in a music album

Bach took it slightly further: ".. so scheide nicht von mir."

It is the ultimate cry of life and birth itself and the point that you feel how you are separated from your maker

Finally it is your own heart that speaks.

  • Musically this album is the most `verstild` (Dutch word, I do not have an English translation that does justice to it. Literally: tranquil, but I might as well construct a word: silenced, silencified, quietened)

Musical ambiance (meditation) meets poetry (also meditation).

This is best listened to in a very quiet place.

Where Spirit of Eden brings back memories of winter and snowfall, Laughing Stock fails to be attached to anything earthly. `Wenn ich einmal soll scheiden`

  • @SnijtraM Tranquil is a good word to describe 'verstild', however, I think there's a hint of 'stupifying' hiding in this term as well.

  • When you first listen to this album, it is much like the previous one. The instrumental ambiance, up to even the tree on the album cover

But this tree is a different one,

It is a closed sphere and it is unsettling to look at. Birds are harder to notice, no more puffins. They are flat and trapped to the edge of the sphere. But the sphere itself is invisible.

    Then comes the cynical title.

Somebody just poured out his spiritual guts and he doesn't like what he sees.

So he quits - the band

  • @SnijtraM And then there's the one flying white bird at the bottom of the tree...

  • @bertdockx That represents Antarctica, right?

  • I hate listening to this song. I absolutely hate it, because it reminds me of the fact that there will be no more Talk Talk, let alone an album of the same quality as Laughing Stock.

  • talk talk me hace habler

  • i hear "something's happening here" and i just get goosebumps.

  • True masterpiece - the funny thing is that any who i make listen to this album, finds it simply impressive and beautiful

  • How the fuck can a band go from kitsch syntho pop to this sort of sublimity? Its just inconceivable.

  • @hippotoast How did Radiohead go from Pablo Honey to OK Computer in 3 years? Or OK Computer to Kid A in another 3? Talk Talk's transformation may be more drastic, but true genius can adapt.

  • @dashofchutmeg Well said sir.

  • wow that screeching sound at 1:56 just sets it off

  • Did they evey play any Laughing Stock material live?

  • I hope the fact that your music is so adored, loved, cherished, revered brings you some comfort and contentment....Bless you...x

  • many people don't know that talk talk makes music like this. most only know "it's my life"

  • The last minute.....Jesus.....

  • @dmtsymphony the violins are soooooo soothing

  • If you get to heaven you'll listen this

  • gorgeous

  • gorgeous

  • I first heard this album when I was a student, lying down on the floor of my place in Bristol, stoned out of my mind. It blew me away.

Nearly 20 years later, straight, it still does.

  • its about time mark hollis/talk talk were in the music hall of fame.

  • questo disco è immenso

  • it just hasn't aged it sounds so fresh

  • Colour of Spring - Can't tell you how much I appreciate posting all these amZING clips of Talk Talk. As you can see we are all in awe of the music they made.I'm over 50 and I listed to TT all the time, much better than 95% of the music released today

  • just awesome song

  • The chords at 3:47 are so plaintive and beautiful.

Music just hasn't been topped ever since.

  • whats the opening chord?

  • I use this album to mellow out almost every

    night right before bedtime.

  • @chameleonday

    Same... Every night...

  • 1:56 gets me every time.

Those chords pull on my soul.

  • I know what you mean. A turn of phrase or something whispered, barely audible usually does it for me. Like in the last stanza, how he phrases those two lines, emphasis on "TREAD" then the operative word "dependance" triggers something in me... every time.

  • I agree, that build reminds me of the build to the climax on "It's Getting Late In The Evening".

  • hahaha..you guyzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • spiesintheWires.....you really ought to unplug yourself dear boy and get a goodnights rest.

  • here here!!

  • Some people really need to stay on their meds. Life is too short to get angry about low kbps on youtube. Mark Hollis says he forgives you!

  • actually I do agree with spies in the wires that it is supposed to be enjoyed properly. But to get angry? I think it is a nice tribute of ColourOfSpring to put this online...

  • Re SpiesInTheWires: Look up "prat" in the dictionary. Unfortunately thats you mate.
