i would think the plastics are to house the radiators and such from the sand maybe also wind protection for the rider? idk just my opinion. these bikes go hard for long distances.

i think its to hold the trail guide closer to the rider, especially when standing up. you dont want o have to look too far from the trial in front of you. i may be wrong, though.
