  • I don't know who are playing the instruments but the singers are Steven Page formerly of the BareNaked Ladies and Ron Sexsmith. The lady who sings near the end is Leoanrd's girlfriend.

  • My new fav video, can anyone tell me about the group singing with Leonard. Love the way the guitarist is getting right into it.

  • i miss

    my little darlin

  • I just 'discovered' Leonard Cohen a week ago and I can't stop listening and watching videos. I can't believe I've only just begun this journey. This video makes me burst into tears - the joy. I'm so glad I finally found him, but I feel like I've lost so much time not knowing his music & poetry.

  • fell in love in the 60's to this and still cry now -what power!

  • There are very many noble human traits being shown here

  • What a rare treat.

  • Isn't that just the most wonderful bit of video footage, that you so much for being there, recording it and posting it for all to enjoy!

The guy playing the guitar (I'm sorry, I don't know his name) is having just the best time and why not! What an honour to play for LC.

  • Cohen's the best ever, and I love how he made the others pale by comparison.

  • omg omg omg.

    thank you Leonard.

  • Almost there! 3 days to go. Lenny welcome to Ireland.

  • How lovely to see him with Anjani. And hope to see him in person in AMS! Fingers crossed.

  • beautiful!

  • merci

  • See you Lenny In Dublin in June. A lifetime dream.

  • being in the presence of greatness does that to people you know matgood929

  • see you in june in toronto leonard

  • seriously though. what is with the guitar player LOL He seems dangerously over excited. It would be awesome to be up there with leonard but I don't think i would be leaping around like pete townshend. I love the spontaneity of it. the guy from barenaked ladies is totally baked. permasmile.

thanks for posting. it is a great moment to have footage of

  • the 10th of july.

  • in bruges, belgium.

  • and when?

  • see you in july, leonard.

  • i'm all teary too

  • That's brilliant...

  • Over over the top, a really cool performance, a raptly crew, a grateful audience, and a modest but impressive interpreter by the name of Leonard Cohen. (Sorry for my bad English).

  • Emy - when we was almost young.... I cry

  • There are tears in my eyes! Thank you

  • I've herad that he is back again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! First Canada and USA and then Europe!!!

  • i saw leonard in sheffield in the mid seventies the man was amazeing he played for hours and said while you want to listen i'll play try getting that from a so called superstar today he is a gem

  • I remember this song from his first album in the 60's. It must be his most under-rated song.

A timeless poem about the human experience of love and intimacy.

I am so surprised that it isn't covered by other performers. It has so much potential for this.

  • I could not agree more.

  • ziveo leo serbia

  • profound song. never heard of this guy. what was i missing

  • I broke down and wept

  • joyous!

    couldn't stop smiling...

  • What a great clip. Love to have been there.

  • Inspiring

  • just fantastic, so real and natural, thanks

  • Thanks so much for sharing

  • It is so good to see everyone having fun! Who are the other 2 singers? It doesn't really matter, but . . .

  • A brilliant talent. A brilliant voice.

  • Why is Mr. Cohen so shy. His voice is still fabulous, but he just refuses to use it in public. I would go until the end of the world just to hear him in a live concert.

  • Thank you Canada for having given us, among others, Leonard Cohen, Neil Young and the Cowboy Junkies...

  • An amazing spontaneous performance.

Yes, it will be played many times in his memory, sometime in the far future, hopefully.

But it will not be at a wake. He's Jewish.

  • Even Greater. When he goes for good this should be played at his wake.

  • When he goes for good? lol. Is he partly or perhaps temporarily gone? Looks pretty lively to me.

  • vem är den där jävla tönten som spelar gitarr? Ta dän han!!

  • He may look old and may not remember the words, but he sounds goddamn wonderful! I thought that his voice had been damaged irreparably in the late 80s/early 90s, but it certainly doesn't seem to be the case.

And this is what makes him a great performer: the other two just make a tribute to him and cover the song as it is, but Cohen actually tries to interpret the song in a new way!

  • leonard, thank you for all your music!

  • He's a precious gift from our Canadian neighbors.

  • Lovely! Porr old Lenny looks lost but he is such a humble man as always. Love him to death.

  • amazing! Its interesting to hear Leonard not using the ultra-low voice that he's been using of late. He sings so beautifully in this.

  • You know what is worse about Leonard Cohen's incredible talent and career: most Canadians discovered him too late. He has been a superstar, loved and adulated in Europe for 40 years. Long live to you Leonard, a true Canadian legend!!! Coming back home is our ultimate reward!!!

  • I've been a fan of his since '71 (in Australia :), I was 16 when I was turned on to him... :)~~

  • transcending generations

    and time

    true quality songs last...

    and Cohen shall never die....

    His songs pierce one's soul...

changed from the first time you hear one..

My favorite one of his is.. "Joan of Arc"..

    brutally painful with such emotion

    *sheri*

  • right on, "joan of arc" would have to be my favorite too!

  • what an amazing voice...so unique...love it

  • The sound on this version is much better than the first I found. Great song, and great to see such a recent performance by Leonard! Thanks so much!

  • loved it.thank you very much.

  • AI..L'EDAT NO PERDONA A NINGÚ EH..

  • I do not at all believe that Leonard Cohen has to be "reminded of [his] lyrics" as the person who posted the video states (that's a bit ridiculous); it appears that he does not quite know where he belongs with this 'newer' generation (at first!).

    Very beautiful video (thank you).

  • no, he does. he says "what is it?" very audibly. It's an old song, and he hasn't performed it in years. I'm sure artistically and personally he's moved past Marianne as well, so why should he remember the lyrics?

The same thing happens with all geniuses. Bob Dylan forgot he wrote Love Is Just a Four Letter Word when he heard Joan Baez sing it on the radio. She had to remind him. It isn't ridiculous at all.

  • what was all that in aid of then?? Who are the other two blokes? Great little gem of a clip.

  • Steven Page from BNL in the white, and Ron Sexsmith in the middle.

  • Thank you for posting this!

I feel like I was there.

  • Brilliant, Brilliant, Brilliant

  • That's Ron Sexsmith and the dude from Barenaked Ladies.

  • This is terrific... I remember waiting at the side of the stage all day long to see this.

  • thank you, great quality video too. Who are the 'others' on stage with LC? Wish i had been there, a very special moment...

  • It's a bit tragic to see him growing old. Partically because I missed almost whole of his career. :-)

    He is a true genius.

  • Well that was awful

  • awesome version but it looks like the guitar player's having a little too much fun! :-D

  • Leonard Cohen can take you places ... what a voice, what lyrics .. a complete artist!

  • how beautiful ty for the clip wrongbutton!

  • Laugh and cry and cry and laugh

  • I can't believe i didn't know this was happening :( I may have missed my only chance to see him live.
