I mean, how long did it take for the infection to get that size? Did you have any idea what was under your skin? (As in, accidentally scrape yourself and have a bunch of pus come out.) Had the same thing happen to me but it was a brown reclus spider bite on my knee. But the doctor I had didn't let the numbing medicine kick in so I was in a hell of a lot of pain. And they didn't have crutches so I had to limp out in more pain. But the medication they gave for pain was amazing! Not something I wanna exprience again.

I'm a girl and I've had three abscesses from the most common areas- on my groin, at the top of the crease of my buttocks, and I just got one underneath my armpit two days ago. Mine haven't been this big, but I've had to lance all of them. I always get them while I'm PMSing or right before the cycle. : / So for the past three months I see the doctor once a month. thankfully when i had to get an abscess the size of 2 golf balls removed from my inner right forearm they gave me propofol so i was out, then i got 6 mg of dilaudid when i woke up and more fast 5's of oxycodone than i could ever dream of. sadly though i have a gnar ass scar from the surgery that will never go away...

I had a small ingrown hair on my leg and it got a bit infected. It hurt so bad when I popped it and drained it. And it was only the size of a pencil eraser. I can't imagine having one that size!! You poor poor thing!

oh dear god. i just got the one on my upper arm lanced today. i haven't had pain like that in a while. they didn't give me anything for pain except a topical numbing shot, but i pretty much felt it all. Although they did give me 20/7.5mg of Hydrocodone.

I actually had a mrsa infection UNDER the skin and it wouldn't drain on its own. had to get surgery w full anesthesia and 5 days in the hospital- took out a golf-ball size chunk of my leg. moral of the story, if you can do it yourself, awesome, but DO NOT wait to go to hospital if it doesn't respond. .... this stuff is bad news.

I had an abcess that released just as much if not more pus...it was localed half an inch below my belly button...and even though I was numbed it was by far the most excrutiating pain I had ever felt when the doctors were breaking up the side pockets.....but mine was deeper down to they had to remove a chunk of flesh to make a hole.and I had it stuffed with gauze to act like a wick to draw out any pus forming afterwards.
