  • This song touch your heart

  • It is one year ago since the 7.1.earthquake in Christchurch NZ, which was followed by the devastating loss of life on 22nd Feb, which turned our beautiful city into a ghost town. Yes Our City too is in Ruins!

  • He should do another Seeger Sessions Tour.

  • Χαρισμένο στο Μαράκι μου που λατρεύει αυτόν τον ροκά από πιτσιρίκα.

  • The courts and greedy developers just took 30 years of heart and soul and hard work from my friend and tore his house down. You were right, I was born with nothing and I am better off that way. If I get anything , they will just send someone and take it away, just like they did with my friend.

  • I dedicate this song for Oslo now

  • DAY 53

The key to profit and advancement is peace. On the road to reconciliation it is important to know history, and what the adversary is thinking.

History and religion can teach all of us the formula, for reversing the course to ruin.

  • this song is the anthem for any disaster or heartache anyone faces. that's what makes it so great.

  • This song is the anthem for the tornado ravaged Tuscaloosa, AL.

  • . . . everybody, please stop arguing about what it's about.

Bruce said that his songs can hold any meaning that his fans give to them. <3

  • its about asbury park nj.. not to rain on the parade as well..

  • my thougts goes out on those who lost family en friends in Christchurch and in Japan.

  • "I said comeon, comeon, comeon, yeah comeon I said comeon..." That's gotta be the best buildup I've ever heard in a song.

  • May our thoughts go to all the victims of the earthquake in Japan, too.

  • I found this clip whilst my thoughts were with the families in Canterbury (Christchurch) in New Zealand. It should be an anthem. This wonderful city has been hit twice in six months, now with hundreds dead. It really makes you think about how lucky we all are. Nothing is impossible and we can rebuild buildings, cities, infrastructure. Unfortunately we cannot bring back our lost souls. RIP....

  • I have family and friends in Christchurch. Kia Kaha to everyone down there. Just know that the whole of NZ and soooo many more people around the world are thinking and praying for you all. You will rise up again!!! Cant keep a good kiwi down!!!! xoxoxo

  • I lived in Christchurch for seven wonderful years. I have lots of friends down there and have not been able to contact all of them. My heart is in shreds, I have cried may a tear. For a big, tough guy, theres not much else that I can do, Love you all down there. Kia kaha. Per ardua ad astra

  • The South Island New Zealand needs a Bruce Springsteen Concert right now - everyone knows people suffering in Christchurch - many have Christchurch visitors - grieving and restoring their energy to return to Christchurch to face the devastation and ultimate rebuild - 'My City of Ruins' is being played frequently - it is a very international song - thank you

  • @ohauhouse

I am a Southlander living in Timaru, Have family in ChCh, all accounted for

One thing I have learnt in my years on this mortal coil is, You can knock a Kiwi down BUT not for bloody long and the Cantab is as tough as old boots. They will rise again

  • @TheStars1490

    so true

  • 'The Boss' singing for Hope .. Thinking of you all Christchurch NZ ... You will 'RISE UP' - Arohanui

  • I am in Christchurch now and been here since the 7.1 and the devastating 6.3 that has so far taken 145 lives and more expected. The power of the big quakes are unbelievible! My city is indeed in ruins, the aftershocks keep going and there seems no hope here at times. : ( I can relate to this song :(

  • @Sarcasticool

(((HUGS))) .. praying for HOPE - stay strong xox

  • Comment removed

  • @Sarcasticool stay strong my friend, we are all in this together, there is always hope in the most devistating place. just like there is always a light in the darkness. stay strong.

  • I'm from new zealand where we just had the earthquake in christchurch and although i may not be from there its a part of my home...new zealand. This is so appropiate at the moment as our hearts go out to the new zealanders affected by this. You can always replace items but not the ones you love. Arohanui all you cantabs. xoxo.

  • I think this song is special for us here in Christchurch. Thanks Bruce.

  • i'm living in the christchurch earthquake and i just found this song

  • me 2 its nice but sad too.

  • Just perfect...........

  • does anyone know from which concert this is?

  • Song is about Asbury Park, NJ. People just think its a 9/11 song.

  • About 2/3 of the way through watching this, I always get gooseflesh. I live in Washington, DC where nearly all my neighbors are African-Americans with Baptist and other backgrounds-- I was told it's because the song is "annointed".

  • This song is so comforting.....

  • Ti amo. Cazzo se ti amo.

  • No matter what the song is about, it's beautiful. Here's one who hopes for another tour with Seeger Sessions!

  • The closest I've ever gotten to religion or spirituality is from music.

  • amen

  • @ak632621 u said it ! Bruce is awesome!

  • Thanks for sharing this. It's beautiful..

  • yeah where he grew up in new jersey and how its changed and gotten worse and everything he remember isnt the way he liked and shit

  • thats the beauty of song and art in general....its all subjective....once an artist puts it out there for the audience, it becomes whatever he or she wants it to be....so even though bruce might of had a certain idea in his head when he wrote this song, people have related it to their own lives, and so now, this song means many things to many different people...as do all songs....

  • Thats part of it. I think its about Asbury Park in general facing regentrification and all of that stuff and the poor and blue collar folks being ran out. I think people though did relate to 9/11 which I am sure Bruce knew was going to happen though.

  • COME ON RISE UP aganist the imbeciles in government! We are fucking tired of their tricks and games

  • bruce you are the best 4ever

  • great live version of an inspired song.

    DEDICATO ALL'AQUILA E AGLI ABRUZZESI (Roma, 19 07 2009)

  • RISE UP!

  • fuck off you peice of shit.....thats not what this song is about...go fuck yourself with those conspiracy theories

  • echo that,...NOT WHAT THE SONG'S ABOUT !

  • Dick.

  • What about the planes, were they fake also? If not tell me who would consent to be in them knowing that he/she would surely die? Nobody willingly accepts death like that unless there's the promise of reward in the afterlife, in their religious belief. That's human nature!

  • Bruce Springsteen is a national treasure, this song proves why.

  • Springsteen, the best !!! Always his songs brings us a message.... things to think, and to do so.... Bruce forever !!!

  • long live SPRINGSTEEN.

  • I´ve never taken Bruce to be a religious man, but this song would seem to suggest otherwise.

  • He involves God in a lot of his songs. Sometimes its very subtle though.

  • not subtle..

it is all about sin, faith, hope, and redemption

    almost every song...

    a concert is a religious experience..every time

  • what I mean is that in songs like this it is obvious. But in other songs he uses it more subtlely by using religous names in his songs

  • Come on, rise up!

  • u never mess with the boss man his the best

  • bossssss

  • Dedicated and a master like J. Cash - in a way better as he gets older. Pure music and always has been you feel Bruce always always gives all and most of his fans feel it. This relates way back to Tex Skerball and Glue 'n' Chickens on YouTube. (Not because of the recent work though.)

  • Amazing and excellent performance, however, just not the same with the E Street Band.

  • perfect

  • C´mon rise up,c´mon rise up (8)!^^

  • Couldnt be a better folk singer I love this video and the intimacy that the BOSS projects through this song live.

  • A beautiful version of the great song. The Sessions Band in excellent support mode! Thanks for posting.

  • Bruce is one of the greats! I love this song. Thanks for posting it.

  • Arguably the most beautiful version of this song ever performed.

  • this song may have been written about asbury park, but bruce himself would have a hard time arguing that at this point. the song is no longer his, it's ours. i guess that's the beauty of music, especially in turbulent times.

  • grandissimo!

  • its been years since ive cried the way i am right now.

  • OMG- I was about to say the same. Hits me every time I reach the end of this video... seeing all those hands reaching upwards.. I was told this feeling is that of an annointing. Don't know if that's true, but to see lots of concert party-goers raising up hands never raised before is so powerful!!

  • Sooo true - every time I hear this at a show I cry like a baby - the tears actually just pour out uncontrollable, I can't understand it myself, all I know & feel is that it is just one of the most beautiful & powerful songs I have ever heard!!

  • He is one of the few songwriters who works on a scale that is capable of handling the subject of our national grief and the need to find a response to September 11th. His sense of music as a healing power, of band-as-church, has always been there, woven into the fabric of his songs. He's got his feet planted on either side of that great divide between black and white gospel, between blues and country, between rebellion and redemption

  • well said

  • eloquently said.

  • Agreed...however this song was written about Asbury Park NJ. The fact that the lyrics fit so perfectly to the tragedies of September 11 and Hurricane Katrina is strictly coincidental. Although Bruce has talked about how songs tend to gain new meaning over time and this is a song that went has taken on three meanings in 5 years.

  • @ak632621 this is not about 9/11 sorry.

  • @letsseethen The whole album was written as a message of hope and fraternity after 9/11... So sorry for contradicting you but it's what this song is all about...

  • @Libemp I'm sorry, but this song is written in 2000 and is about Asbury Park...

  • @Wallberg17 Well, you must be right... I was quite sure, though...

  • @Wallberg17 The song was originally written about Asbury Park, and was released on The Rising, where most of the material is about 9/11. Bruce said himself that his songs can take on whatever meaning that people can take from them. He has a meaning of his songs that is close to his heart, and whatever anyone else wants to believe is up to them. So most of the country took the meaning of this representing New York after 9/11. Nothing wrong with that.

  • @ak632621 Not that I disagree the song does relate with NYC after 9-11, you realize that he wrote the song in 2000 and was about Asbury Park, NJ right?

  • @evm2007 Spotted!

The measure of wonderful songwriting is that is fit so many moods and situations, like this one.

  • Bruce is the best out there!!!

@ak632621 you literally copied and pasted Jackson Browne's words. You are so cool ripping off someone else's ideas and putting them off as your own. Uncool.

  • @ak632621 Not to belittle your comment or take anything away from your meaning of the song but Bruce wrote this song before the Sept. 11 attacks.

  • @ak632621 for the record Jackson Browne said this, not me. Just thought it described the poetry in motion that is Bruce's music!

  • rise up! peace for all

  • Another amazingly powerful song of Bruce's....he just gets better & better

  • rise up baby..rise up

  • I LOVE YOU BRUCE

  • I am pretty sure this is from the Indy concert

  • this is definitely one of the top songs on the album.. and one of the most underrated bruce songs.. it seems every bruce album has these underrated gems.. backstreets on btr, racing in the street on darkness, highway patrolman, downbound train, all that heaven will allow, the list goes on.

  • Downbound Train is SO underrated too. In addition to this song, it's one of my favorite tunes. I don't get it!

  • If you like Bruce's lyrics, watch "I Have a Dream in New Orleans." It is a speech about a nonviolent resistance movement in New Orleans.

  • Overcome is about depression and suicide. The Boss's song is hopeful and absolutely BRILLIANT.

  • Great peice indeed!

  • anyone know how to put a song to a slideshow?

  • Its not about New York its about AsburyPark NJpeople took it to mean new york but it was written about asbury and the decline of the great city after the riots in the 70's

  • while it was originally about asbury park, Springsteen rewrote some lyrics for the wide release of the song to reflect the attacks of September the 11th. So while it is accurate to say that the genesis of the song is from Asbury Park, the version released to the public was indisputably influenced by and reflects on the 9/11 attack on NYC.

  • What city was this?

  • new york, after the 11th september

  • Great song, big artist, still better as human being. Thank you Bruce.

  • wonderful song.

  • Come on and RISE UP!!

  • Heard live in Paris! Gave me goosebumps all over...Bruce Springsteen, much more than a great singer, is a great artist who portrays America and mankind with such accuracy and poetic intensity. Long live the BOSS!

  • great song

  • The Boss at his best, a great song from the heart.

  • This song lifted my step after the concert of 9/11. Youtube let me re-connect to the reason why. I thought the song was written for the night. Even though it was written for another reason, I remember that night's application. And performance. Rise up.

  • This is the best,The boss rules

  • fantastic

  • Great video, great song, great artist
