  • Thanks for helping fill another hole in my list of unseen episodes.

  • "We are friends!"

    *Points spears at him*

  • I am so thrilled to have found the episode available officially here on YouTube! And in the US, no less! Really hoping this effort is expanded in the future. Thanks, BBC.

  • Can someone please explain why BBC has State of Decay, Planet of the Spiders, Full Circle, The Awakening, The Twin Dilema, and The Masque of Mandragora blocked in the US? Come on BBC, show some respect to the American fans! Thumbs up if you agree!

  • i love Zoe's outfit here....she was so cute back then!

  • when is this going to DVD? I CANT BELIEVE THE ENTIRE EP IS ON HERE! Thanks, Aunty Beeb.

  • "I'm not a doctor of medicine", said the Doctor... This adventure was first aired in the period 1968/1969. Curious, as in the earlier 1967 adventure, 'The Moonbase', the doctor claimed to have received an earlier education in medicine, in Edinburgh. Indeed, the Doctor quoted '(Joseph) Lister', which was chronologically and geographically accurate.

  • One of my all time favourite stories. Now when are we gonna get it on DVD?

  • I will never understand why they can not incorporate some of this style of audio track for the new series's, the music in these older episodes seems infinitely more modern sounding.

there is also an air of mystery here which is sadly lacking today.

It is almost as if much of the new who(some of which I like) has no confidence in itself and feels like it needs to dazzle constantly.

    sad really

(addendum.....The Steve Moffat effect is starting to steer things in a subtler direction I think)

  • I like krotons on my salad.

  • The walls appears to be made of tinfoil LOL!

  • My goodness Zoe that is a short skirt!!

And Jamie just crashes into her at 3:12, haha. He's really gotten used to being with the Doctor- "uhp, trouble."

  • Isn't it nice of the BBC to allow this, but to go ahead and destroy most of Troughtons era..

  • For some most of the first season episodes were blocked in my country ( All expect the Edge of Darkness episodes)

  • Is BBC TV acully the BBC? The fact that the BBC has removed some of their videos dosn't really make it look like it.

  • Quite interesting to see how they used a lot more wide shots in TV and film back then, its more like a play.

  • @ImperialVideoService you are quite correct. ive never noticed that before but find it very interesting.

  • The Krotons is now the only complete Patrick Troughton serial that has not been released on DVD. The only other future Troughton release would seem to be 'The ice Warriors' which is missing its 2nd and 3rd episodes which will be animated to the original soundtrack like the missing episodes of The Invasion.

    How cute Wendy Padbury is.

  • varnagol is lovely

  • Were are the other episodes from the first doctor onwrads I lnow they were here a little while ago HAs I watched upto the episode were it was reconstucted from photos and sound track. This site is lettin everybody down.

  • i really still like the tardis sound and the doctor. its really familiar

  • Zoe looks delicious in this episode!

  • The Restoration Team have done wonders, especially with the early episodes! The quality used to be so bad that Patrick Troughton's stories looked like they were filmed in the 30s with a hand-cranked 8mm camera.

  • adverts on the BBC who'd have believed it. So much for the license fee???

  • @Glassgirl2009 Use Adblock, you don't get them

  • my favorite umbrella...

  • omg i dont mind commercials at the start but half way through

  • cool

  • I did enjoy this episode, but it did make me chuckle the way patrick troughton threw himself to the floor at the end.

  • I dont like how the cybermen look these days give me the old versons any day.

  • What comes to mind is croutons, but I think I'm starting to like Patrick Troughton!

  • Fkin' ads!

  • If John Barrowman saw this episode, he wouldn't know which skirt NOT to look up. :-P

ps. Why did Jamie try to punch Zoe halfway across the quarry at the start? :-))))

  • @earthacademy

I don't think he 'punched' Zoe, but Jamie seemed to be in a hurry for some random reason...

    Hilarious actually...

  • The Krotons are a rival soup company. They specialize in microwaved foods. :)

  • did someone stumble upon Patrick Troughton's Gonds? Must of hurt.

  • Why are there adverts, Its the BBC?

  • @paulmorris7777, the adverts are from outube, they get paid for them. The BBC is advertising itself, not advertising others.

  • @paulmorris7777 it's bbc worldwide, the commercial arm. That's why they can have ads.

  • All I could think when i saw the Tardis appear was, 'Looks like the same quarry they're still using in Dr Who now, and Torchwood!'

  • Padders + PVC = PHWOAR!

  • @randomdave30 lol

  • I think Mr. Moffat is saving the DW name for us in "Series 1" or "Season 31" as Moffat prefers it to be called.

  • I know some of his grand children and one of his children...

  • Not seen these old episodes before but I love them. This is a great doctor as was Pertwee and Tom Baker. Not sure on the new ones, some have been good but the Daleks, cybermen and the master episodes tend to be a bit lame. They build up a story and then end it really badly. The one with Davros when they beat him by pressing some buttons which makes the Daleks spin round, what the hell was that! The cybermen should have been much more menacing too, they look like they belong in the wizard of oz.

  • i agree with you BenPN1000,the cybermen look completely different from the 70s and 80s versions they shouldve stuck with that version, the new cybermen look really silly,if i saw one of them id burst out laughing, the 70s and 8-s verions were more scarier.

  • Krotons? I thought krotons where bits of bread you put in soup...

    Anyway, Troughton FTW!

  • The Krutons live on a different planet in the same system.

  • Okay, so I've now got it playing, but it kind of loses something when it freezes up four seconds for every four seconds it plays. Anyone know what the problem is? And why i can't get at Planet of the Spiders while I'm in the US? Because i'm failing to see the motive there. Doesn't that just block out a potential market?

  • Why's it just stopped two minutes in? It's loaded, what's the problem? Anyone else getting this problem?

  • For God's sake I dont want bloody Giff Gaff!!!!!! AAAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!

  • I get similar problems, it has loaded but it keeps stopping. This is VERY frustrating.

  • A true classic!

  • zoe...=D. i like zoe

  • jamie needs to learn to headbutt :O)

  • Flyingengishman has never been a true Doctor Who fan. Ignore him. He's a poser.

  • @Hexachloraphine I think a lot of TV and films are like that nowadays they seem to put more money into CGI and fancy effects than storyline and brilliant characters like in older programmes.

  • @Hexachloraphine its purely a matter of business. We have hundreds of channels available to us today, and all have remote controls. The flashy visuals are intended to lure in random viewers and keep those watching from reaching for the channel up/down button.

  • @Hexachloraphine - well said! :)

  • Isn't it so that many planets the Doctor visits looks like a Welsh Quarry :P

  • why is it these episodes seem to be the only thing on youtube i have trouble streaming?

  • Lol said like a true hardcore line my dvds up in alphabetical order fan.

  • @FlyingEnglishman Hey! New Who is pretty good!

  • This the first Patrick Troughton episode I have seen and I already love it after five minuets. The chemistry between the three of them is brilliant.

  • Ditto.

More of the Patrick Troughton epidoes please BBC.

  • Every time I see Patrick Troughton

    I think of the omen.

  • This story always has a soft spot in my heart, as this was the first Second Doctor story I ever bought on VHS (and first time I saw the second doctor).

  • What a lovely doctor! I sadly am too young to have been able to watch the troughton stories in their origional transmission, but seeing this just shows what a fantastic doctor he is! Such a shame the BBC destroyed and imo robbed our television culture of some of it's most wonderful treasures. Such a shame that most of Patrick Troughton's storied are no longer available for us to enjoy. Anyway this was a pleasure to watch.

  • Great to see this. Patrick Troughton is my Favourite Doctor. This is a good story but 'The War Games' is the best one.

  • I totally agree Barry. 'The War Games' is not only Troughton's best, but IT IS one of the all time greats of Doctor Who in my opinion. I still maintain that even if the Troughton era was complete in the archives (and I do have all the soundtracks of the missing episodes/stories on BBC audio cd's), that 'The War Games' would still rank as Troughton's strongest.

  • Absolutely stunning, one of the most engaging episodes of Doctor Who I have ever seen, and I absolutely love the Second Doctor!

  • The hose-y camera thing is actually rather creepy, in a War of the Worlds esque way.

The Mighty Trought is the best Doctor. All hail him and his magnificent acting ways! And three cheers for his most cuddly companions!

  • I thought of exactly war of the worlds when I saw this.

  • Thrilling fight choreography is thrilling!

  • Wendy Padbury is soooo gorgeous

  • Ahhhh, nothin' better than some Patrick Troughton.

  • Great to see a Troughton Doctor Who story on YouTube, especially one which has not yet been released on DVD. The Krotons, whilst not the best story ever, is worthy if only for the little amount of complete Troughton stories that exist in full. Out of 21 stories, only 6 remain complete in the BBC archives. The Krotons is one of those six!

  • I was testing myself to see if I could name the six complete stories - does this sound right:

    The War Games

    The Krotons

    The Tomb of the Cybermen

    The Dominators

    The Mind Robber

    The Seeds of Death

    Does that sound right?

  • Yes that's right. My personal favourite of those stories is 'The War Games' . But I also hold in high regard 'The Tomb of the Cybermen' and 'The Mind Robber' .

  • Very cool. I grew up in Canada and saw the later episodes before seeing the B/w episodes. When I saw the Mind Robber I originally thought the "Master of the Land" was a 1st incarnation of the MASTER!

  • you could include the INVASION, the 2 lost episodes were animated for the dvd.

  • @travisdoucettemusic Tomb of the Cybermen is my favourite. You got them right

  • Who love for the Krotons ... thought I would never see the day.

  • This Ladies and Gentlemen...is why the new Series fails :D

  • Really enjoying it and then it cut out half-way for me too and would not start again!!

    What's the problem??

  • Aww man, cut out half way thru for me and I cant get it to load whole thing properly.

Now Im hooked but cant find out what happens! Arg!

  • I love this serial.
