In England if you have a diagnosis for a long term medical problem - like hypothyroid, bipolar etc - you apply for a medical exemption card by filling in a form at the GP (general practioners) then all meds are free. For incidentals there is a set fee which is a lot less than usual, if you come here treatment is free but medicine is only free to EU citizens,
Depakote made our sons hair fall out and quetiapine messed his stomach up and had no effect on the delusions, of which he had them all,
@jnmklo9 I can't take Trileptal, Lamictal, or any drugs that end in "tal" as they are derivatives of the same thing, rip apart my stomach & give me an ulcer. Multiple Bipolar drugs are like this.
Anti-psychotics send me into manic episodes. Weight gainers made me gain 170 lbs & were of no help.
A woman asked me if I was doing chemo because my hair fell out due to Depakote. I felt so embarrassed. I was fat due to the drug & looked like a plucked chicken since I lost my hair.
@jnmklo9 I take L-Methlyfolate for depression since I have B Vitamin Anemia. 70% of people who have Major Depression or Bipolar Depression also have Anemia. See Deplin.com for details. I take the generic instead of Deplin as it is cheaper. It helps a lot & more than big pharma drugs.
I take T3 for Hypothyroid & Bipolar. Since upping my dose I feel much better. Studies show an average of 90 mcg is beneficial to alleviate depression in Bipolar patients per medical journals.
I agree if you try to use up the excess energy by exercise it can produce more adrenalin. Thanks for the info on lithium - its scary what the Doctors suggest, aripriprozal for instance that's a nasty one for mania and any antidepressants send mania thru the roof, you should come to England mate all medicine is free
@jnmklo9 Antidepressants are not advised because they pop a BP patient up into Mania. Our energy rises on Antidepressants. NIMH has said do not use Antidepressants on BP patients. I hate the weight gainers. I took Depakote, gained 60 pounds and my hair fell out. I gained & lost 170 lbs on weight gainers.
My English relatives told me the system changed in England and things are not free anymore. I thought Americans can not get free care in England?
Well I do and it is very difficult - drugs are a short term fix but eventually the sufferer has to avoid this 'displacement ' and stop talking as its the talking that creates an interruption to all the mechanics of the physical body and this makes the endocrinal system produce lots if the wrong stuff mainly adrenalin and cortisol there is not a lot to talk about really
@jnmklo9 It doesn't matter if there is anything to talk about or not. That is not the point. I just repeat myself. The point is feel pressure to keep talking. It is an internal pressure. You make a point about cortisol and adrenals. I am in adrenal fatigue and have excess cortisol.
I have always felt that if you can do physical exercise this might tire you but the thoughts race so much you can't focus enough - lorazepam is addictive so you can't keep taking it - does lithium work on mania?
@jnmklo9 It is hard to do certain kinds of exercise such as weight lifting if you have racing thoughts as it is dangerous. You can drop a weight on your foot, lift wrong and hurt yourself. It is not advisable to lift while experiencing racing thoughts. You have to wait until they go away. Yes, Lithium medicates down Mania and Hypomania to a certain extent, but not fully. Lithium kills the Thyroid Gland, then the kidneys and liver.
@jnmklo9 Lithium makes me feel rather numb so I am not a big fan. Within 18 months of starting it my Thyroid Gland was dead. Now I need T3 to keep my alive and it is hella expensive. It is an added expense the rest of my life. If I stop I die. Next to die is my liver and kidneys. I will end up on the kidney and liver transplant list. If there are no organs you die. Lithium can not be taken for life because it kills you one organ at a time. This is the dirty little secret of Lithium.
@jnmklo9 In the past I got into trouble due to over exercising in an attempt to control my ADHD, OCD, Bipolar Hypomania and Anxiety. I became extremely ill. I was compulsively over exercising. I went to the gym 3-4 times a *day* and lifted weights. I was extremely sick and almost had to be hospitalized due to over training. In a bid to expend my energy I went too far. I way, way over did it. My workout partner was pissed! Showing restraint & not overdoing it can be tough.
If you are talking the whole day without hardly pausing - even to eat - that is bipolar mania and to confirm your family will say please be quiet please stop talking and you cannot and it irritates you that they suggest this then it is bipolar alright - very hard no one can sleep either because you talk all night too
@jnmklo9 LOL. Hympomania takes some pauses. That is the difference between Mania & Hypomania.
I am unable to sleep without benzos to put me down at night. If I do not take medication I will stay awake for weeks and feel well rested. My energy does not fall at the end of day like a normal person. Instead my energy rises & I become extremely energetic. I never feel tired. Only medication makes me tired.
I would like to shut up & stop talking, but my illness presses me to keep going.
@jnmklo9 Hi. I'm really curious. It sounds like you know someone like this. I do. I was raised by someone who sounds just like the person you describe. It has been a extremely difficult existence. One few of my friends can relate to or understand. I would love to talk to you.
@geezloueeze If the person has pressure speech this is an external manifestation of what is happening to them internally. Pressure speech is extremely common in Bipolar Disorder. If you look up other symptoms you might find the person is ill with Bipolar Disorder. There are 5 kinds of Bipolar. You can search for "DSM Bipolar Disorder" to find the descriptions of all 5.
nice song. My doctor and I are assuming I have. I'm on lithium and all I notice is more emotions (happy and angry) and more confidence. I get talkative but not sure if it is rapid or not. I have no clue what is going on. I hallucinated and was delusional while in the hospital and haven't since. My brain has a lot of crap going on but seems pretty good so far. No idea if I even have anything.
@Shrunkenhead61 lithium is the drug of 1st defense. more happy = euphoric = manic/hypomanic. more angry = irritable = manic/hypomanic. confident = manic/hypomanic. this means you are cycling and not settled/stable. talkative means pressure speech to keep talking. usually people take more than 1 med. i take: lithium, tegratol, topamax and triazolam for sleep. if you skew up then you need something to bring to bring you down & for sleep. see how it goes. you may need to add meds.
