  • The people who criticize the swimmers suits should also criticize the shoes of runners. But somehow they don't. I hate when people are inconsistent!

  • Lol the suits slowly add steroids

  • Are these swimsuits sanction by the IOC?

  • So.... just give them all the same suits.....

  • Those things are amazing

  • FUCK FRENCH SWIMMING OFFICIALS

  • @Kamikuru77 , If you're some kinda tough guy..nobody told me chump!

  • I can tell you who do love these suits and aren't swimming for world records. That's right the US Navy SEALs.

  • I could use this same argument against body hair shaving, new technologies allow more of an in depth shave (or wax) creating less drag making it "easier" for the swimmer.

  • only difference is the suit causes LESS resistence. So whats the issue? Thats like saying "Lets cause more resistence in the water and make them wear skydiving suits to make it fair." Or "hey you're too tall and have a further reach with your stroke so you have a 2 second handicap after the gun fires."

  • oooo...I love that blond at :28 seconds in

  • I always hate how he media uses words to make things sound bad. The suit does not "make them go fast" it allows them to go fast. Big difference as the suit provides no actual swimming aid, the swimmer still has to do the work. I'm not one to nit pick words (as I always use the wrong ones) except by those who are suppose to be trained to use them properly and what they say affect the thoughts and views of all those hearing them.

  • @abruceames I agree, when I first watched the beginning of the video, I thought the actual suit was aiding the swimmers arms and legs by pulling and slinging motions. Either way, The same rules should be applied that were applied in the beginning of record making. People never had these advantages back then. Who knows how fast they would have been if they did have a rubber suit.

  • @chrismontoya79 To think today's Speedo would have been banned in the 1920's for the same claim that they make the swimmer go fast.

  • @chrismontoya79 Hi, although it would be nice if the same rules applied as they did at the beginning of record making it is unfortunately impossible. Athletes today (in all sports) have greater knowledge, technique, training, diet, computer and video to analyze themselves and competitors, more time to train, better training environments, more competition (always makes one better), etc etc. The list is endless, so unfortunately records will always fall. In other sports, items used are better too.

  • @abruceames I agree and understand this, but there must be a line drawn somewhere. If there is no line, the swimmers will eventually be wearing flippers on their feet and will argue that it is apart of their swimsuit. Do you see where I'm going with this?

  • @chrismontoya79 - Hi Chris, I definitely agree with you that limits have to be set and hopefully sporting bodies will make good ones. My main point was that regardless of how much we like the past rules they will eventually have to change. To me (my view only) the differences are things that aid an athlete be better vs doing things for them. As I don't know much about swimming I only see the suit as to being a similar aid as to when they began wearing swimming caps as I'm sure those helped lots

  • @abruceames I also don't know too much about swimming. I could be totally blowing it out of proportion. We all must evolve I supposes. ;)

  • Who gives a shit its swimming

  • well then, they will just have to swim Naked :)

  • its ok! ppl! but women have 2 drag bumps... cant beat those

  • those swim suits have nano tech engines woven into the fabric. Kool

  • Why not flippers too

  • Is there or is there not an advantage? Yes there is--a technological advantage. That's why they want them, that's why they wear them, and that's why they continue to develop them. I believe it should be speedo budgie smugglers for the guys and some type of regulated standard one-piece for the girls. Of course naked would be best, especially if you had a winged keel ;)

  • I think these swimsuits are a slap in the face to anyone who ever broke a world record without one. I hate them and think they should be banned. I'm ashamed that the Aussie swim team has embraced them.

  • Ehhh I don't know about that. There's no actual increase in the amount of energy being exerted. No motor on the suit. No flippers etc

  • Quidgo: Its more along the line of different tires. Maybe they should all swin Naked? No matter what if they are not all wearing the same suit some are going to have more drag than others. They have been trying to make things better since sports started may it be shoes with air, Lighter weight football pads, or Golf balls with more dimples. Its a sport and if it betters your performance and the technology is available to everyone who cares???

  • Because that means it's not about how good you are but how much financial backing you have. You are not going to let boxers have different gloves made to give them the most power with as little weight as possible so why should you give swimmers different suits that give the wearer a considerable advantage over his competition?

  • @EkEMaN91 Why don't we go back to the 20's technology with full body wool swimsuits as the only swimsuit again. Then no team has an advantage.

  • @startreking2007 I would take that as sarcasm but seeing as that would mean that you want competitors to have an unfair advantage over those that do not have the same connections or the same amount of capital to throw around. We're talking about a competition where a fraction of a second could mean the difference between second place or a world record. Having records skyrocket each year simply because the suits are getting better belittles both the records and the athletes.

  • @EkEMaN91 $50 dollars is hardly "....or the same amount of capital to throw around." still even the far more expensive ones are still not god awful expensive at ~$350.

That's dirt cheap compared to other sports like bicycling where bicycles can be $5000 and up. Not including safety gear.

  • @startreking2007 I don't think that Olympic athletes are buying the cheap ones at the local store. I find it more likely that they are getting the latest models perhaps even before they are out on the market.

I talked to a friend of mine who's a competitive swimmer about the swimsuit issue and he told me that not only did he feel a pretty big difference when using one but two top ranking swimmers in his league have ceased ranking after the swimsuits were banned.

  • Goes to show you how retarded people can be they bitch about a swimsuit but they are not worried about performance enhancing drugs.

  • There should not be any debates if EVERYONE is wearing the suit. If everyone is wearing the suit its equally fair to everyone

  • @swimmerforever2008, exactly, I think in a competition, everyone should wear the same gear.

  • @PungiFungi each company has a different suit and the people who are swimming at these big meets most likely have sponsors from different companies (Speedo, TYR, Finis, Addidas, Nike, Arena etc.) and those who do have those sponsors probably cant wear another company's suit. plus most people want to wear speedo

  • @swimmerforever2008 I'm sure sponsors can easily buy $300 swimsuits. They probably already put thousands in to the swimmer already.

  • Its kinda silly making new technologies for this sort of stuff. Its like if we were trying to have a legitimate car race and i had a v8 someting vs your v6.

They should all be wearing the same thing to be fair.

  • 1. thats the most retarded comment, because car races (at every level) have different engines. its each company that tries to make a faster, more efficient engine than their competitors...so your comment doesnt make sense....

  • wow I didn't know the autralians were being brainwashed by the same brainless news stories that us United States citizens are subject to. Is sky news owned by the same people as fox?

  • Ok, I don't need to see the guy's thing, through the suit.

  • Ah, who cares what the french think.

  • Lol yeah we better do what they say lol

  • a stuuur worldwide lols

  • Whatever.

  • lol ....ok sky news put more videos on here like the whole daily news or something.
