Although in theory technique is definitely more important than strength - a wrestler should work on all areas. Technique, Strength, Conditioning, Flexibility, Mental Toughness, Mat Strategy, Healthy Diet, Healthy Sleep Habits... Basically, if you want to be successful in wrestling you have to live wrestling. Don't get distracted by comparing yourself to others you have to focus on your own journey and measure success by setting personal goals.
I have been wrestling for 2 years now. Never had more than a month or 2 off at a time. A strong senior in my high school wrestled for the first year this year and placed second at leagues and did okay at counties. Meanwhile I'm struggling on JV wrestling and going to be a senior next year. Pretty much all my wrestling career people told me Technique over Strength and after this year is over I do not know what to think.
@ kevlite305 never give up, do your best in everything every day, never waste time, and learn from your mistakes. Not only is this advice for state but in life, that's why wrestling and fighting is my life.
What a new beginning in life, and I am only 17.
Good luck and remember, family, your team, the recovery, diet, and stretching is as important as the learning, school, and training.
i subscribed to your chanel. Thank you very much for this. I wanted to add couple things. I live in the USA now, but i grew up in Russia, and i wrestled freestyle overthere. I agree with mental toughness- its a very important attribute to develop. A lot of it lays on the self discipline. keep up the good work.
