What an impact on the music industry! He inspired Lynyrd Skynrd, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Grandpa Jones, Etc. Even a movie was created of his great life! A true pioneer of backwoods and country music! He also inspired folk music, rockabilly, R&B, country rock, and much more! A true legend who died of TB! A true leader of the Hall Of Fame!
One of the signs of his greatness is that he is in not only the Country Music Hall of fame but also in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He was also in the Inaugural classes of both Hall's. He should also be in the Blues Hall of Fame but there seems to be no driving force that can get him in there even though he is known for his early Blues influence.
The singing brakeman! Huge influence. I recently bought a vinyl with loads of folks talking about him around the songs. I love it, but can't seem to convince others. :-)
Jimmie is one of the greatest artists who ever lived. His unique voice and style are the best when it comes to the old yodeling train songs which I love. I like the pictures you have posted here. We can assume I believe if Jimmie had lived to see how well his music influenced many great country artists he would have been very proud. That special lick he plays on his guitar is unlike any other's. Thank you for posting this treasure. - Paula
Well said. I was fourteen when I was introduced to Jimmie. Found a Double Album record in the discount section at Tower Records.Believed I paid a buck fifty for it. Rode my bike home, pulled the cellophane off and was forever changed. Even as a kid I could not believe that this man recorded songs even while dying of TB. Really moved me the stories that this man could tell.
@WheelSlip8 I recently saw a show with Merle Haggard doing one of Jimmie's songs - which he does well. He put in the lick that Jimmie may have made famous himself on his guitar and that sounded good. I wonder though if Jimmie's guitar itself gave a special sound to all of Jimmie's music. I've also wondered for years what make guitar he played. We heard that his widow loaned the guitar to Ernest Tubb years ago. Maybe it's in a country music museum now. I'll have to research that. - Paula
I believe one of his guitars is on display at the Jimmie Rodgers Museum in Meridian, MS.
Haggard was always very appreciative of his music as well. Also, I believe Haggard even made a album in tribute to Jimmie. Other musicians such as the late Ronnie Van Zant of Lynyrd Skynrd were deeply influenced by this man also. Thanks for the reply!
my dad used to sing this with his brother, this song brings back some great memories, thanks for posting

Jimmy was my first Hero and earliest influence. Mama Max was from Texas and turned me on to Jimmy and later Hank (the first). Just blessed I guess...

If people were more open minded and knew wha great music really was, then this video would have 17 million views instead of 17 thousand.
