Interesting, you probably have a small piece of naval history there. DD 416 aka USS Walke was a Sims class destroyer built in 1938. It was sunk in the battle of Guadalcanal near Savo island. she was at Mare Island Navy Yard for "repairs and alterations" before deploying to the south pacific. you probably have the sole surviving piece of equipment from that ship that isn't sitting on the bottom of the ocean.

I have an old warning horn from german´s state railway (Deutsche Bahn) that was used on rail building sites, I tested it in my garage at home with 6 Bars (don´t know how much PSI that is) and got my neighbours awake from sleeping. The German Plate came from my 1983 Audi Quattro Sport that I imported from Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The Audi Quattro Sport was one of 200 required by manfacturers to build so they can race in Group B rally. It has a 2133 c.c. all-alloy 5-cylinder unit had 4-valve head plus a big turbocharger. Maximum power in race car reached 500 hp, while the road car still managed to put out 300 hp.

6 bar is 87.023 PSI at 0 FT Above Sea Level. Thanks...

@Mark1Spitfire ,Smaller, higher pitched horns will sound louder at close range because human hearing is most sensitive around 3.5kHz and considerably less sensitive down at the range of the Tyfon-575 (55 Hz) horn on the Queen Mary cruies ship.. This is why a train horn can sound ear-bleedingly loud despite having a fraction of the power output of the ship horn.

@BIGMIKESOCAL The 575 is 8dB louder than an RS-5 (1 of 2 loudest train horns), but I guarantee you that you'd find the latter harder on the ears. Because of how low frequencies are absorbed less by the air, a ship horn will have a much longer audible range and longer echoes.

Train horn= louder to the hearing up close...

Ship horn= can be heard further and you can feel it all over your body. larger ship horns will even make your vision blur , your nose hairs tickle & your chest hurt...

Low frequency sound could loosen parts but not shatter glass. The ship horn on my video has a very low frequency (around 100 Hz) Glass typically shatters at around 1170 Hz..

If you are asking about the large ship horn, then I would have to say you probably could not find one.This horn is very rare. Mine and Adam's (Airraidsiren on YouTube)are the only 2 that I know of that is still in use. I just recently found out that a ferry called MV Coho possibly has a version of this horn. Only six have been seen in pictures and in person each one having a different configuration. If you do find one, they go for about $6,000 to $10,000USD.

One more note, The company that made these horns called Doran-Cunningham is no longer in existence. This horn was produced in the early 1950's. This horn was made for a US NAVY destroyer. If you are looking for the first horn you see/hear on the video, That is a locomotive horn call Leslie S5T-R. You'll sometimes get lucky and find one on e-bay.
