Here's what I don't get. You are offered to ally with the theilaxu at one point (didn't work for me so I got the Sardukar instead - must've screwed up somewhere). How does that factor in the story?
Yes its a little weird in Emperors. You can play the Atreides and also use Sardaukar.
The whole story is weird, also in Dune 2000.
Because there never was this war betwen Atreides, Harkonnen and Ordos in the books. It is mixed with parts from film and book and own interpretation. But in fact, it has nothing to do with the books or films. Its just the same Universe and Planet.
I think there also is no Duke Achillus Atreides in the Atreides Family line.
Actually it's supposed to be a prequel, and alternate continuity at the same time. I didn't find the part where you recruit the Sardukar weird though. It was much stranger that the game would offer choosing between the IX and the Thleilaxu as potential allies, yet the later are always enemies, and you always end up with the same three allies by the end.
don't you just love how Koltras keeps quoting the book? "It is the slow blade that penetrates the shield", "don't sit with your back to any doors", and so on...
What the F*** was that? Give me the original Dune movie anytime. I thought the background CGI looked bad in the three recent Star wars films but this was shocking.
i only noticed just now... duke achillus' voice sounds like marcus of fallout 2... tell me if i'm mistaken i just recognize some familiar voices in emperor
@VitoPossilipo I agree that Michael Dorn was a strange idea, although we have to note that the Atreides do not practice genetic selection as such, nor do they practice cloning- apart from much later in the books, and that is for specific people. Hence while a black man is not a usual choice, the diversity of genes included alongside the Atreides family makes for interesting reading.
It should be:
Mentat: You have done well, the Duke is pleased.
Duke (comes): I am pleased!

There is nothing as inmersive as having the character directly speaking to the screen, maybe I´m too simple that´s what I think :S

If it was, the player would have been REplaced.

@BTIsaac
You get backup troops from them in some missions.

@Usul75
But they are the bad guys. It doesn't work story wise, and you'll be ending up with the Ix either way.

How can be a black man the leader of House Atreides? I mean, Paul was definatly not black.
VitoPossilipo 3 years ago
Caladan was of temperate to warm climate. Technically it is not impossible; besides the games are not quite tied to the novels.
TheShamanSZ 2 years ago
Sorry, but what has the climate to do with the skin color, which is white in the family Atreides as every Dune fan knows?
And if one Atreides is black, all others have to be that, too (normally, I know there are exceptions).
VitoPossilipo 2 years ago
@VitoPossilipo not all the Atreides have to be black, there are several branches of the family, and they also practice concubine keeping.
SantomPh 1 year ago
@SantomPh Thank you for your reply. But I still think it was a bad idea to cast a black actor. That´s too much non canon.
