  • The band itself is okay/good, but the album "Awake" is fantastic!!!

  • why is petrucci inaudible during the synchronized runs around 3:00, yet seconds later his chunking is fine?

  • @MrZingnigga You're probably listening for the wrong sound. Sounds like the thick, clean, phaser.

  • hey, theres a keyboardist too

  • It's too bad LaBrie didn't hit that note in the chorus right at "Caught In a Web" and share the harmony with Portnoy. Oh well, still excellent.

  • I once met this guy and he was like, "Oh, Dream Theater. Yeah, well, they play too many notes." And I'm thinking to myself, "You freaking idiot! That's what makes them so good!!!"

  • @PhilistineTheArtLuvr he probably doesn't know what progressive is about, also what makes them good is much more than playing a lot of notes, it's the eclectic fusion of more than one brilliant musician coming together to write the songs, along with many other things.

That's just me, I bet you're a fan of the Malmsteen's out there, but it doesn't cut it for me any more.

Everybody's entitled to their own opinion / preference, but if it's not defended intelligently, then it's different.

  • @yyy12232 I prefer Prog Metal AND Neoclassical metal :p nice fusion

  • c chill

  • 2:41-3:55 great technique amazing!

  • I go thru stages of songs. 1 song i can listen to any time of day is As I am. Always have been n always will be a Train of Thought ass kisser ;)

  • lol 5:19

  • very kickass

  • Geoff Tate wannabe.

  • Your fucking idiot for posting comment like that...your right there's nothing good about this band.

  • comment fore yournamehere23435: dream theater does not perform space dye vest live because kevin moore mainly wrote the song and they think it feels weird to play it without him

  • Such a hard song to sing.

  • @iluvsystemofadown and play

  • God, those keyboards Rudess uses on the beginning of the solo sound so annoying...

And LaBrie is pretty good, probably doing it better by now.

  • Omgoshingroflchips. Is this a record from the perfomance as in 'Once in a LIVEtime'? It's for sale; clean and well. o_o;

  • it's NOT from OIALT era, Rudess are playing keyboard...

it's from Train Of Thought tour (you can see the TOT cover on the portnoy's drum)

  • Damn, since the food poisoning, LaBrie hasn't been able to sing that high anymore. I guess that's why they don't play that many songs off "Awake" anymore.

  • Prepare to be astonished my friend - James LaBrie on his forum said they are gonna be doing alot off of Awake on this new tour = 15th Anniversary of Awake!!

  • :-( Most likely I won't be able to see them live...

  • really????

i hope they play Space-Dye Vest

  • they played Erotomania and Voices back to back when i saw them this year!

  • Ooooh God, come to Indonesia... we've been waiting for you guys!!!

  • wow 3:18 rulez

  • Bass, Guitar, Keyboard and Drums, Excelent!!!..but the vocal is bad.

  • LaBrie is going to transform his vocal character....

  • I think he does it extremly good!

  • Can someone tell me all the instruments that were used for this song? please! I would really thank you if you tell me!

  • guitar

    keyboard

    drums

    bass

    vocals

  • perfect! thank you a lot!

  • Better:

    Guitar Music Man

    Keyboard Korg

    Drums Tama

    Bass Yamaha

  • hahahaha, well thank you too!

  • better than that

Guitar- Ernie Ball Music Man John Petrucci Signature

    Keyboard-Korg Oasys

    Drums- Tama

Bass- Yamaha John Myung signature or possibly Ernie Ball music man Bongo

  • It was recorded with his Ibanez prototype with Dimarzo pickups. (on awake album) parts of scenes from a memory was also recorded with that guitar before they switched to MMan.Later Gator.

  • Sigmeund Freud, eat your heart out.

  • This was one of the best albums.

  • They are gods of music! <3

  • is there anyone else who think that Awake was pretty scary and mystic and weird?? It´s problably the best album i´ve ever heard and I like how all the songs reminds of each other. If you don´t know witch anlbum a song is from, you can hears really clear if it´s from Awake. I also gotta give credit for the cool, odd mixing on Awake.

  • it has to do with how it was engineered and also kevin moore

he adds that creepy edge to the songs

    he was great

  • Yeah, I love the mixing on Awake. Even if Mike has said he "most of the time" liked it, like it was something you normally would think is bad!! I know that Kevin Moore hated the mixing, but he got nothing to say, coz he left before the mixing!

  • Anyone up for the spider-solo?

  • What do you mean? I know this song somehow make you think if a spiders legs crawling over a piano.

  • Heck yeah! The spider solo rocks my socks. This song is incredible. I bought Awake yesterday and man is it one masterpiece!

  • are u new to dreamtheater? It was my first album by them too but that was in 1996 i think lol maybe 95 i saw portnoy do a drum clinic at samash in white plains ny. new heard this stuff b4 and my god it blew my mind when i saw and heard this stuff for the first time. I grew up in middle school when alice n chains nirvana and green day were just coming out and this was so different. Changed my life forever, i would go with change of seasons next if u dont have it

  • @mastrorj68 hey no im not really new to DT, change of seasons is amazing.

My top 5 DT songs atm are..

The test that stumped them all

    As I am

    Space-Dye Vest

    Misunderstood

    War inside my head

There is simply no band like them. NONE

  • Images and words, Awake, Scenes from a memory. The three masterpieces

  • @dvsdez Word on that!!! :D

  • Thanks.

  • anywayz the riff at 2:50 is fukin awesome i cant get enough of it its so awesome

  • Yeah... that's the "spider solo" I mentioned. I can't get enough of it, either.

  • yeah the Trains Days in 2004 or 2005?

  • good.. very good. when was this?

  • Brazil/Rio's a bit better because of the sing-along crowd, but this does have the "spider" solo going for it.

  • ...Then again, the Brazil/Rio versions have that, too.

  • Luigifan18 do you know the song shut the fuck up ?

  • ...No, I've never heard of it.

  • ...Why are people thumbs-downing my comments?

  • temazo

  • ...Why the hell has nobody made a custom of this song in Guitar Hero?

  • Man, I sound like a horror writer... But, anyways, this song is absolutely awesome! (Seriously, the solo sounds almost like a spider... not literally, of course, but what else would come to mind from the pattern of the notes?) Heh heh heh... yeah, I love this song.

  • Man, the solo does such an excellent job of evoking the image of a spider hungrily approaching someone trapped in its web, moving in to inject its poison and convert its victim's insides to soup... and then suck it all up...

  • they kick ass live

  • 2.40

  • one of their best songs!!!!!!!

    ROCK ON

  • \m/ \m/

  • awake is the best album of DT .
