  • It is wrong to celebrate birthdays. In the Bible they only celebrated the life of someone at the end of their life. We were never told to celebrate the birth of our King, or anyones birthday.

  • Amen, another huge tradition, and I admit I have yet to overcome this tradition for my own family members.

  • True. We are not to worship YHVH in the way the pagans worshipped their gods. It's a stench in His nostrils and an abomination. The question then becomes, 'Am I doing anything the pagans have ever done while celebrating/worshipping my God?" It doesn't matter whether or not we are 'worshipping a tree', what matters is was this something the pagans did to worship their God...if so, don't do it. I remember reading the Tertullian quote a year or two ago. Very clear. Blessings.

  • Even average unbelievers know where this tradition comes from- to the shame of Christianity, and embarrassing for those who try to keep Jesus attached to this season. Christianity is a house that's been divided for a long time, and we know what happens to a divided house. On a lighter note, I do enjoy egg nog- lol.

  • Gen 40:20 And it came to pass the third day, which was Pharaoh's birthday, that he made a feast unto all his servants: and he lifted up the head of the chief butler and of the chief baker among his servants.

There are only thee verses in the whole bible that speak about birthdays. The other two are speaking of Herod: Mat 14:6, Mar 6:21

So, the whole idea of birthday celebrations is totally unknown to Jews, Israelites and other believers.

  • Amen Keksinnot - this is a hard one for Christians, most don't want to give up the festivities, or they don't want to know where it comes from- or don't really care! - Especially if they've "done away with the law", they have nothing to replace their traditions with. We've been Christmas free now for about 4 years. It gets easier every year, and truly a burden lifted!

  • Nothing should be to hard to give up to be obedient to God, Holy is His name, not even our own flesh. If we can not give up the pagan traditions , false doctines and false religions, are we worthy to be a part of Gods, Sacred is His name , family? We must choose what is more important to us G-d , or man because that is really what it comes down too. All of us are free to choose Peace

  • @dgross563 try hanukkah...then you can still have family fun AND honor a genuine miracle...rebbe yahushua risked his life to celebrate hanukkah in jerusalem-must be pretty important right?

  • I have been celebrating hanukkah for several years now, thank you, Shabbat Shalom

  • Why would you celebrate a man-made Holiday for something made with Hands and NOT celebrate God in the Flesh dwelling among people?

  • We celebrate God dwelling among his people at Sukkot, or Feast of Tabernacles, and also as a remembrance of our forefathers dwelling in booths after the exodus. Jesus also celebrated Hanukkah- the Feast of Dedication (of the temple) which temple we are- aka Feast of Lights- He is the Light of the World. John 10:22

The history of Hanukkah can be found in the Book of Maccabees.

  • Yeshua was conceived on Hanukkah,
