i prefer a slight variation, in which i grasp the saddle with one hand and pull the bike forward between my legs. it looks a lot less spastic than pushing off with all four limbs... which kind of reminds me of a mini-seizure.
Push off with all four limbs at the same time, like you're pushing the bike forward away from you. It's not that hard. I'll make another video that shows it more clearly.
Thanks for explaining. Can you also show how to do an over the handlebar dismount, over the handlebar mount, downhill speed control (salom and skidding)?
I can't do the first, the second is easy, and there are tons of videos on youtube of SF kids bombing hills, better hills than we have here in NYC. But if there's an interest, I could make more (and better) instructional videos.
Welll the videos are fun to watch people showing off, mostly at night. There are no step by step instructions or explanation. I want to understand things that are hard to see on the videos like where the pedal positions are, what leg is pushing down while which leg is pulling, are you clipped in or have the pedals been flipped, how do you make sure that when you skid you don't fall over, etc. I think many people could benefit from this.
It's easy. Just slow down and wait until your pedals are at three and nine, stand on them, and push your handlebars away from you as you jump off. The saddle will shoot right into your hands.
Difficult w/ clips? about the same? impossible?

You push your handlebars at the split second you are dismounted (feet not touching pedals AND moving backwards)? That seems quite difficult.

how do you clip out cleanly?

Clips and straps. Pull out of the clips a few rotations before you want to dismount, flip the pedal and push off of the platform.
