  • Water is placed in a flask containing 400 ML <- what does this mean?

  • You shouldn't handle calcium carbide with your bare hands. When it reacts with water it produces corrosive calcium hydroxide.

  • that's some pretty pure CaC2!

  • How hot the water gets?

  • "Water is placed in a flask containing 400 milliliters of water." lol.

  • (second Part)

Hold the tube horizontal and take the cap off. Quickly, with a lit popsicle stick (or a BBQ lighter) place the flame in the tube. Have fun and be safe!

  • Get a test tube. Fill it (completly) with water. Place a piece of paper on the opening so it makes contact withe the water and sticks. Turn it upside down (the paper holds the water) and place in a beaker with about 500 to 1000ml of water. Remove the paper. Now drop som Calcium Carbide in the water and drag the test tube over it. Wait till about 1/12 of the water is replaced with the gas. Pull the tube out so the rest of the water leaves the tube and place a cap quickly.

  • water is placed in a flask containing 400 ml of water...wtf

  • Awesome

  • Dont be dumb, acetilene is very dangerous gas and in correct proportion whit air the mix become in tremendous explosive

  • better results with less water!!! because more acetylene gases will be produced

  • U can buy it at every horticulture-shop. It's against moles. You give some CaC2 into the holes and with the water out from the ground it makes C2H2. Moles don't like the smell of C2H2!

  • Sweet, Good to know!

  • It's easy to make calcium carbide. Get yourself some chalk, which is calcium carbonate. Heat at over 2500 C. It will decompose to CaO and CO2.

Now heat with carbon at same temperature.

It gives you CaC2 and CO.

The carbon monoxide burns make CO2

  • thermite will heat it over 2500 degrees.

  • do you mind telling me where you got those big chunks? I bought mine under the code name of bangsite but its granulated and not as cool. thanks

  • I acually sell it

  • oh really sure you dont just want to take my debit card #! lol do u have a website?

  • No not yet i usually just sell through msn or ebay

  • What name do u sell under ebay with?

  • Hybernation3000

  • ok cool ill check it out. I use my carbide for my homeade cannon. Do you know anything else i can use calcium carbide for?

  • I usually use it for experiments. Put some in bleach it will self ignite

  • ausome thanks

  • why didnt you put it in bleach?

  • Well, the aceyetelene(SP?) Reacts with chlorine gas, and self ignites. The bleach has chlorine in it, so I guess that is whats going on.

  • yeah C2H2 + NaClO = fire

  • You can fill a balloon up with calcium carbide and then poke a little hole, you can light the air and you will have something that looks just like a cooker.

  • @xbh1h2 there are lamps too

  • very nice =D

where i can buy Calcium Carbide ?

    send me a MP

    Thank you

    and nice video ;]

  • Can buy form me :)

  • Sure burns dirty. Quick poof made quite a bit of soot.

  • Burns cleaner when mixed with Oxygen

  • Explains why they usually mix them for welding.

    Great Video by the way.

  • Thank you.I plan to start making demonstrational videos.
