The South was corrupt and ineffciient but to say that "they" wanted us to go home is false and misleading. Why did so many flee the Country after the fall of Saigon? The Armed Forces are the strong arm of the corporate empire. If a country won't submit to UCC (Universal Commercial Code) then they get invaded. It's not complicated. The international communist conspiracy may have been a myth, but the Soviet Union was not. Vietnam was a mistake because we weren't fighting the Soviet Union. In Afghanastan, during the Russia occupation, we finally got it right and that won the Cold War.

I think we all believed in the "Domino Effect" when all that crap first got started. We got sucked in through SEATO obligations and got stuck in the swamp.

Shit, I went over there as John Wayne in '66 and came back as Abbie Hoffman in '68. It seems that everybody changed their views when Walter Cronkite said on the evening news that VietNam was a no-win situation and LBJ refused a second term.
