SUPERBO! Yes, Guercio was the man for this band. Thank God Danny keeps that original spirit alive. Hands down my favorite drummer along with Buddy Rich - of all-time.
How on God's green earth could you NOT like Danny Seraphine's musicianship. I love Chicago, but I darn sure do miss him in it...and Peter..and Terry...and Bill, darn it!....and heck, and Laudir for all that matters. I don't know who's pulling what for those guys these days, but I'm sorry...these guys got to get back one mo' time before its too late. And, oh yeah, JWG...they might've "got tired" of him, but he is the man for these guys. NO ONE can compare (yeah, I'm lookin' at YOU Shivarelli).
Kath was a part of Chicago I wasn't aware of until I was awair of it, that is, most think of Chigago as # 14 until you hear Kath and then it's Rock on CTA-13~! Intro to Terry Kath's Chicago Transit Authority-13!
Probably no accident Danny wore the "K" shirt in honor of Kath. Avedas Zildjian was the first Zildjian to produce cymbals in 1623 Constantinople. Constantinople became Istanbul and that's where K Zildjian cymbals were originally produced by Kerope Zildjian. K's were later reintroduced in the U.S. as Zildjian's "hand hammered" line although I'm fairly certain they are now done by machine.
The trumpeter really nails the trumpet solo very nicely. The guitarist does a superb job too. Danny Seraphine has always been a masterful drummer....one of the best in rock history!
Sorry for your loss you guys....Terry was careless that day, and we all lost because of it....it's great to see you pay tribute to one of the all time great guitar players...thanks!
Would love to have had some ringers for the horn section here. These guys just didn't seem to quite have it, but I'll admit, one better have their stuff packed tight to play along with Danny.
What a GREAT idea! Terry deserved it, Guercio, Danny and Kenny Cetera all on one stage. But what a 6th grade production. Nobody was told that there was going to be a hour long high school talent contest before. Misleading to say the least. All those musicians on stage trying to kick ass only to be put through a garbage and I mean GARBAGE PA system. Terry Kath had a sense of humor and he was up there reall laughing! Everyone on stage is really much better than what you see here.
No doubt in my mind that the "K" over Danny's heart represents the name "Kath" in honor of his best friend and co-fellow musician. Thank You; Danny, Kenny and Jim for making the tribute a special night for all fans and admirers of the Kath musical legacy. Now Danny can truly say he shared the same stage with Terry even in his old high school, William Howard Taft. Terry's spirit flied over that stage that night. God Bless, Terry Alan Kath
You don't have to guess what the "K" on Danny's shirt represents. Why it stands for "KATH" and sits over Danny's heart for his close friend and fellow musician. "THANK YOU", Danny, Kenny and Jim for making this "Tribute" special for all Kath fans. May his legacy live on at Taft High School on the northwest side of Chicago. Now Danny can say that he shared the stage with Terry, even at his old high school. Terry's spirit flies over the stage like an "EAGLE"
Great vid - I agree that champlin & scheff helped get rid of Danny - at least that wanker champlin has gone.....now time for that useless bassist scheff to go as well. Peter Cetera was by far one of the world's top bassists...just listen to his lines in any early Chicago work.
Oh how I wish I could have attended. Thanks so much for sharing. Danny looks great! Terry Kath, we love you, always will. You are forever and God Bless you and your beautiful gift of music you left for all of us to share and appreciate together.
1967ChicagoGirl2564 is right... Pure emotion written all over Danny's face... Yeah, it's safe to say that a zillion memories of Terry, as well as the original Chi-era, were rushing through his mind of all the times they played "Introduction"-> Barnaby's, Whiskey-A-Go-Go, Isle of Wight, Hollywood Bowl, Carnegie Hall, Budokan... not only for Chicago, but that period of Rock as a whole... as i believe Robert Lamm once said= a very fertile time when radio played just about anything & everything! :)
First of all, thanx to TGMedia for nabbing this & sharing (i'm near El Lay)~ Agree with Bibchr= gtr solo was reminiscient & TG is right->captured the essence! :) As far as the horns go, the trumpeter & trombone players covered their "ballad features" well... BUT the sax players...oi vey!! Now I'm a sax guy & believe me when i say that they sucked! Out of tune & horrible tone!! Surely, the Chi-area could've done better finding a non-pro!
Look carefully at 3:56....Look at the PURE EMOTION written ALL OVER Danny's face... I can only guess he's reminiscing.... Thinking back to his glory days with Chicago.... Chicago in THEIR "glory days"... And, remembering his SWEET, dear friend, Terry Kath.... Mr. Kath was irreplaceable... I've read (several times) that Jason Scheff and Bill Champlin were at the root of Danny leaving the band... I think he got a bum deal...
@bibchr It probably was deliberate ... you can't imitate the great Kath completely, but the guitarist did try to preserve the flavor of his original solo.

@provpalermo I'm wondering whether the "K" is actually for a line of Zildjian cymbals, I could be wrong ...

@teegeemedia But, what if it's for both? Sure, Zildjian could have made it but since it doesn't strait-up say Zildjian it works for both ;)
