The tuning company, Hennessy, will be adding the mp4-12c to its TLC lineup, which is good. I know it can be faster and handle better than it does. On Fifth Gear, the presenter, Tiff Needel went off the road after coming out of a powerslide. It just needs work. Hennessy will also be adding the Lexus LFA on its to do up list. That will be interesting for sure.
The McLaren MP4-12C has a starting price of around 229,000. This is a very exclusive car so for it to be this price, it is kind of cheaper than I would have thought. Especially, with the F1 legacy.
I agree that Jay Leno, wasn't very impressed. He saw that the car was going the same direction as of any other exotic car(trac control,paddle shift,RHD/LHD, etc etc). Nothing to do with the legendary F1 !!!!!

I think that this is one of the most beautiful modern sportscars. I'm a serious Porsche fan myself, but I love that there's still a few companies out there making more organic designs. Ferrari is seriously hit or miss on its own cars, and I think that the F430 is a drastic step down from the 360 Modena, but the 458 Italia is absolutely gorgeous. I don't think that McLaren's new MP could possibly supplant the glory that the F1 had throughout my childhood, but it's a great successor, in my opinion

Hate the logo....looks sh$t. Nothing memorable....sorry Jay/ McL. And the car itself....a bit subdued. If i didn't know better, on first impressions it could be mistaken for something Japanese...like say a Toyota Celica or something by Nissan. It doesn't stir any emotions....and I think by looking at Jay's expression....he probably felt the same. There was no "WoW factor"....but I'm sure Jay will buy one anyway. And final thought.....maybe what it needs is an exciting colour...instead of grey!
@hotandspicy666 I think it's very understated just like it's daddy the F1. The fact it isn't all angles (as Jay commented) will mean it's more subtle design won't date so quickly. I watched the F 458 review on Top Gear on sunday and tbh it was a pretty boring review and I'm not so sold on that cars looks any more. First promo shots looked amazing, then saw some pics on someones mobile on pistonheads....bit over the top and gimmicky suddenly! Especially that exhaust ...eurgh

Who designed this Compromise? Audi? Like audi completely ruined the Italian Lamborghini's priceless body lines. THe car just does not stand out. I hope McClaren learns from this Collosal Mistake. They need to go back to their roots racing heritage. That is what people respected.
The car is part of a proposed 3 car line up. This is designed to go up against the 458s and SLSs of this world. The next will go up against the R8s and 911s of the world, The 3rd is a proposed replacement for the F1, a top of the range car. That will probably be more to your liking. I wouldn't really say this is a compromise, if the details are correct, this will blow the 458 out of the water.

As an American, I have seen cars compromised from the design standpoint, down to a mediocre shell of what could have been. I do not want to see this company do that. Mclaren needs to send it designers to the states and do their homework on its wealthy customer base. Building a car is one thing, Building a dealership, maintenance, parts base, is a whole nuther ball game.

I'm not suggesting that efficiency would necessarily appeal to the super rich. But given that we live in an age of 'climate change', an obsession with CO2 and a general mistrust of 'gas guzzlers', it looks like big V12s are going to go the way of the Dodo. With Ferrari also considering turbocharging, it would seem the P11 is a sign of things to come.
@jackrandall I wish this company well and good luck on their endeavor. If this design fails, it fails because management did not do their due-diligence and marketing correctly. This car will not sale well in the American Market. Maybe to a bunch of Opec Sheiks or your soccer players, but not to the American super wealthy. @jackrandall The F-1 does not really need to be replaced. McLaren Manufacturing methods need to be employed to streamline production costs for a start. Keep the V-12= Any V-12. Replace the gold foil, Put in a little better cooling system for places say hotter than, England? Use a stick shifter, a good radio and good air conditioner, and use an Emblem that Americans can recognize= A small block print McLaren badge on either front quarter panel. McLaren brand says it all. Get rid of that new one.
This car is not intended as the F1's successor, and as such isn't quite the unleashed monster the latter was. It is supposed to be a luxury supercar competing with the likes of Gallardos and 458s, and will do just fine in that regard. As for the engine, McLaren's emphasis on efficiency meant the V12 was inevitably dropped. The V8 looks to be a gem however, and will no doubt be up for awards on the car's release.
Lastly, demand is expected to outstrip supply, so don't worry about 'emblems'.

Given the weight of the car, (2866 lbs), more power is completely unnecessary. it already has a better power to weight ratio than most cars. mp4-12c lb/hp: 4.84 458 Italia: 5.41 sls AMG: 5.24 Corvette C6 ZR1: 5.23 911 GT2: 5.99 as you can see, the mp4-12c has the best power to weight ratio in the business.

I don't think Mclaren is going to try and top the SSC aero in the top speed war yet. Right now, my guess is that they want to go (comparatively) mainstream and start taking out of porsche's, ferrari's, and mercedes' sales. This car delivers better performance than most other cars. If mclaren goes for another bugatti killer its not going to be their first car back as unlike bugatti they are self funded. and I still don't understand how you think a v12 is the only acceptable engine in a supercar.

I think that this is one of the most beautiful modern sportscars. I'm a serious Porsche fan myself, but I love that there's still a few companies out there making more organic designs. Ferrari is seriously hit or miss on its own cars, and I think that the F430 is a drastic step down from the 360 Modena, but the 458 Italia is absolutely gorgeous. I don't think that McLaren's new MP could possibly supplant the glory that the F1 had throughout my childhood, but it's a great successor, in my opinion

Hate the logo....looks sh$t. Nothing memorable....sorry Jay/ McL. And the car itself....a bit subdued. If i didn't know better, on first impressions it could be mistaken for something Japanese...like say a Toyota Celica or something by Nissan. It doesn't stir any emotions....and I think by looking at Jay's expression....he probably felt the same. There was no "WoW factor"....but I'm sure Jay will buy one anyway. And final thought.....maybe what it needs is an exciting colour...instead of grey!

@hotandspicy666 I think it's very understated just like it's daddy the F1. The fact it isn't all angles (as Jay commented) will mean it's more subtle design won't date so quickly. I watched the F 458 review on Top Gear on sunday and tbh it was a pretty boring review and I'm not so sold on that cars looks any more. First promo shots looked amazing, then saw some pics on someones mobile on pistonheads....bit over the top and gimmicky suddenly! Especially that exhaust ...eurgh

Small block - small cylinders. They can handle the pressure better. Prime example, the 1000cc superbikes. Some redline over 18000 rpm.

Who designed this Compromise? Audi? Like audi completely ruined the Italian Lamborghini's priceless body lines. THe car just does not stand out. I hope McClaren learns from this Collosal Mistake. They need to go back to their roots racing heritage. That is what people respected.

The car is part of a proposed 3 car line up. This is designed to go up against the 458s and SLSs of this world. The next will go up against the R8s and 911s of the world, The 3rd is a proposed replacement for the F1, a top of the range car. That will probably be more to your liking. I wouldn't really say this is a compromise, if the details are correct, this will blow the 458 out of the water.

@jackrandall I am sure that their engines for this car are top notch. As a matter of fact, I know they are. As an American, I have seen cars compromised from the design standpoint, down to a mediocre shell of what could have been. I do not want to see this company do that. Mclaren needs to send it designers to the states and do their homework on its wealthy customer base. Building a car is one thing, Building a dealership, maintenance, parts base, is a whole nuther ball game.

I'm not suggesting that efficiency would necessarily appeal to the super rich. But given that we live in an age of 'climate change', an obsession with CO2 and a general mistrust of 'gas guzzlers', it looks like big V12s are going to go the way of the Dodo. With Ferrari also considering turbocharging, it would seem the P11 is a sign of things to come.

This car will not sale well in the American Market. Maybe to a bunch of Opec Sheiks or your soccer players, but not to the American super wealthy. Two words for this Mclaren Management= Dont Compromise...

@jackrandall The F-1 does not really need to be replaced. McLaren Manufacturing methods need to be employed to streamline production costs for a start. Keep the V-12= Any V-12. Replace the gold foil, Put in a little better cooling system for places say hotter than, England? Use a stick shifter, a good radio and good air conditioner, and use an Emblem that Americans can recognize= A small block print McLaren badge on either front quarter panel. McLaren brand says it all. Get rid of that new one.

This car is not intended as the F1's successor, and as such isn't quite the unleashed monster the latter was. It is supposed to be a luxury supercar competing with the likes of Gallardos and 458s, and will do just fine in that regard. As for the engine, McLaren's emphasis on efficiency meant the V12 was inevitably dropped. The V8 looks to be a gem however, and will no doubt be up for awards on the car's release.
Lastly, demand is expected to outstrip supply, so don't worry about 'emblems'.

The F-1 and Lamborghini Countach posters are the most popular in history for a reason. McLaren needs to build a Super F-1 so outrageous, you could see it and hear it at a thousand feet away. You want a car that will turn heads and demand attention. I hope McLaren management is reading this.

And here we have another idiot who seems to think that more cylinders is better. The mp4-12c has a 3.8 liter twin turbo v8 engine producing 592 horsepower and 443 pound feet of torque. Given the weight of the car, (2866 lbs), more power is completely unnecessary. it already has a better power to weight ratio than most cars. mp4-12c lb/hp: 4.84 458 Italia: 5.41 sls AMG: 5.24 Corvette C6 ZR1: 5.23 911 GT2: 5.99 as you can see, the mp4-12c has the best power to weight ratio in the business.

The V-12 was part of the McClaren Mystique. I do not like this car, its idiotic emblems, no proper shifter and un-appealing looks. Give me the Old F1 any day.

@Rocketracer4 I am simply not impressed. McClaren should offer a 12 cylinder engine and Scrap that Generic body design. I want to see a supercar 500 feet away, stop and say, look at that. This car would not even raise eyebrows at it passes by. THe F1 is legend. This poor excuse for McClaren motors, is a Weak, Compromised Design. It looks like a 350z or any other Generic sports car in the dozens out there. Mclaren should be the motor and chassis first, then build a body around it. NOT IMPRESSED

@DIOSpeedDemon I don't know about you, but when one of these comes screaming down the highway at 150, I'm not going to be thinking "Oh look, a generic supercar with only a v8" More Cylinders and displacement does not mean more power. This is a 3.8 liter v8 that puts out almost 90 more horsepower than Aston Martin's 6.0 Liter V12! And that looks nothing like a 350z. Its much lower to the ground. from the side and the front, this looks like a sleeker, smoother f1. but whatever. each to his/her own

I don't think Mclaren is going to try and top the SSC aero in the top speed war yet. Right now, my guess is that they want to go (comparatively) mainstream and start taking out of porsche's, ferrari's, and mercedes' sales. This car delivers better performance than most other cars. If mclaren goes for another bugatti killer its not going to be their first car back as unlike bugatti they are self funded. and I still don't understand how you think a v12 is the only acceptable engine in a supercar.
