  • los pericos did the best version of this song, everybody should hear their version

  • Was this a flip side of another record? I remember playing this as a kid.

  • I also like the version of "vigon"

  • I listened to this under the covers on an AM radio way on back in Chicago - it was and remains excellent.

  • I used to manage Bob and Earl , Earl who is gone now (he also recorded under Jackie Lee ) once told me they made three times the money on the stones cover than they did on the original

  • @mybosco30 wow. I am in England and this song was very rarely played on the radio /here. Yes the Stones covered it a few years later. Bless them (bob and earl) it was one of those songs .

  • Imitation is the greatest form of flattery!! I think the Stones did a good Rendition of this song..

  • @utveg522 absolutely not. They just copied.

  • @Jan9902 I have heard different versions some I like much better some not so much

  • La très originale version disco-funk de Rinder & Lewis vaut elle-aussi le détour (mais elle n'est pas sur youtube...).

  • Everytime I hear the start to "Jump Around" Im hoping its this start of this instead!

  • @CarlosAdams Me too! Every single time!

  • this is an amazing song. the foundations do a good version too but i have yet to find a video for it on youtube. i'll have to upload it myself. also, good call on the "jump around" haha.

  • Way back I used to play this in our youth club. Two lines of people dancing opposite each other - great times!

  • OMG, I was so ready to Jump Around! I hope they got tons of money after the Stones covered this.

  • My father taught me, "the original is usually best" He nailed it!!!

  • Shame on these people for copying House of Pain...

  • JUMP AROUND!

  • it's easier to understand the lyrics in this recording than the Stones one...

  • 5 people are completely SOUL dead.

  • still great

  • Makes me think of Beer, Belushi, frat house shit, and &%$king the Homecoming Queen !

  • I meant one heck of a party jam!!!

  • This is one heck of a part jam!!!

  • Jump around!!

  • i can't sit still, this song demands dance floor attention

  • Got this on original 7"; just seeing the crowd's reaction when I play this.Probably thought I was gonna drop "Jump Around" by House Of Pain when they hear the intro.I play proper tunes, not that weak ass shit

  • @postoffice56 You just called "Jump around" a "weak ass shit" - you automatically fail at life.

  • yes, i'm sad.......... i pressed "stop" after 7 seconds, lol

  • When we wake up to the truth of life, inspired music like this will emerge and flourish again, and all the uninspired crap that people call "music" these days will fade away and be forgotten. Search "Truth Contest" in Google and click the 1st result, then open The Present and read what it says to learn the truth of life.

  • If our favorite bands didn't do some covers of old blues tunes, would we have bothered to search them out? Also remember, alot of bands started out with a few covers to draw attention to their versatility then they went on to create their own sounds.

  • I guess five people don't like to do the shuffle in Harlem

  • Ah yes but the Stones drew attention back to the original which was their intent. That is what the Blues Brothers did for a lot of the great old blues tunes. Just because the Stones weren't the original didn't mean their cover isn't worth listening to. I love the video with the cartoon wolf drooling after the gal Mick tries to dance with LOL!

  • @blueagate HAHAHA...correct

  • So this is what House of Pain sampled for beginning of Jump Around.

  • I love this song, & the singer on the left is Brad Pitts' twin. We used to do the Philly Dog to this.

  • round robin

  • ok Fred smith ok fantastic

  • stones is better... it lacks the stones signature tone

  • @sammyjny Rubbish. The Stones are past masters of the R&B rip-off.

  • @drwhatson you are a master fool

  • Do you think the Stones did a good job covering this? They did make the top 5 with this version...the last time the Stones hit the top 5.

  • @fumetti

no, i think this original song is much better than the Stones version. I like the Stones, but i never liked their song, and i didn't know that they had copied it, until i heard this song in the grocery store a few days ago...it jams!

  • Holy shit you're right that pic of Earl is a full on brad pitt soulstah............ohhh and a smmoovven song

  • Amazing song

  • Guy on the left a black brad pitt? More like rashad evens gran daddy

  • Song Of The Day.

  • hammer geiler sound. better as the song from house of pain. :P :)

  • JUST LOVE THIS GREAT NUMBER !!!! ONE OF THE REAL BRILL ONES, COLIN DALE RADIO SUTCH

  • House of Pain

  • @yohanntimban

House of Pain have nicked the original intro from Bob and Earl!! Everytime I hear the intro I'm never sure which version is coming on......

  • @ChrisMum Sure here's the DNA of hip hop

  • we couldn't do it without youtube!!!!

  • That's Kickin' Baby!

  • In late '64, H.B. Barnum 'discovered' the Ringers, became their manager and produced their first record - Mersey Bounce b/w Graduation Doll (Bil-Lou Records 1001). Mersey Bounce was written by Rex. Although the title is an obvious nod to the Beatles, the song is a beat-style version of Bob & Earl's Harlem Shuffle. The more sentimental B-side was written by Rex as early as 1959.

  • Is there a PD with the nads' to have a program featuring this period in Popular music? He'd be a hero in SoCal!!

  • Forget the Stones, the original is the best!!

  • @1plaistow I agree, this kicks ass all over the Rolling Stones cover version!

  • @1plaistow Wouldnt say either one is better than the other. They are kinda different. The original is great. But Stones made it in its own kind of song.

  • @1plaistow Oh Yeeeeah !

  • the germ-cell for Hip-Hop

  • this song is still shot hot

  • I like to hear this one after listening to Motowm's EDDIE HOLLAND, (JUST AINT ENOUGH LOVE. Smooth, So Similar!

  • listen to this by wayne cochran and the fabulous c.c. riders

  • backround brass is outstanding!!!brings back some great memories when i was younger thanks for the post

  • Still a floor filler.

  • Did you know this was arranged by a young Barry White?

  • @georgeprowse You learn something new everyday, thanx for the info. I know Barry was into the Cali music scene before he blew up

  • Oh Yeah the 60's and man did we dance like nobody's business. Now this was real soul dancing music. Man I had to have been about 8 years old now you know I'm lovin this

  • 8 first seconds of this song = Jump Around - House of Pain :-D

  • Man I love this song. My granny plays this everytime we have a family get together and it's instant line dancing material.

  • one of my all time favorite songs I ever played out

  • Jump Around! Jump Arou... Hey!

  • when you have to deal with things this takes you back to when life was pure music!!!

  • The guy on the left looks like a black Brad Pitt!

  • @fadilsamah

Harlem shuffle. hey yeh soon as I saw him thought he looked like Bradd pitt as well :)

  • @fadilsamah I totally said the same thing to myself as soon as I saw the pic, hilarious!!

  • @fadilsamah

Ha, ha! Yep, you're right, I've just noticed this, brilliant, thank you!

  • @fadilsamah so true bro

  • @fadilsamah Haha! He does in that pic, now you mention it! - That's Earl Nelson aka Jackie Lee, the other guy is Bobby Garrett aka Bob Relf.

  • Comment removed

  • @fadilsamah so true !!! made me laugh

  • @fadilsamah best comment ever...tnx

  • @fadilsamah ahahhahahaha...loook!!!! true speaking :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

  • @fadilsamah

YOU'RE SO RIGHT, IT TAKES A KEEN EYE TO NOTICE THAT. LOL

  • @fadilsamah Woah! You're right! Scary!

  • @fadilsamah rofl so true man, a black Brad Pitt all the way

  • yeh do the harlem shuffle.

    this is real music.

    whit your girl.

    your family.

    what a sound.

    i'm happy.

    greetings from the netherlands

  • 5 dorks!

  • fuck it, ill jump to it

  • @megamurg Hell yeah!!! I'll be right up there with you ... ha ha ha... Shake, shake, shake your tail feather baby! Couldn't get much groovier than this. Not in a million years!!!

  • That went down so well, like a long cool refreshing, thirst quenching drink, think I'll have another!

  • probably the best single ever? .Then "Teenage kicks" and "Smells like teen Spirit " are arguably real contenders in a late night hazy disscussion.

    regards

    jimmy

  • @julyarchives I like those late night hazy disscussions, so I have to add "Little Green Bag" and "Stuck in the middle with you" to this little list, if you're open to suggestions!!!

  • I'm a stones fan but was unaware that this wasn't the only version until some time last week. This is still the best by a mars bar party mile.

  • Besides "Jump Around" by House Of Pain, where else was this song sampled?

  • @FiswaT Sounds like the intro to Start the Commotion

  • hehehehe i like

  • One of the best tunes ever .Only song they ever did but wow

    regards

    jimmy

  • great song but try wayne cochran and the fabulous c.c. riders

  • what album its that song from?

    Greetings from Spain.

  • JUMP AROUND!!

  • Those horn stabs are badass!!! Thanks for this.

  • YOU SCRATCH JUST LIKE A MONKEY

  • I remember this song from so very long ago and I'm 54 years old. I thought they were saying Holler Shuffle. Then I figuered out.. Of course the Rolling Stones did a version of this. One thing I can say, they knew good music when they heard it.

  • If ya girl steps up, I'm smackin' tha hoe...

  • wow... so the Stones covered this?!? Learn something new every day.

  • The start has been sampled so many times and quite rightly so.

  • I just love this fantastic Shag song.

  • To Earl's grandson - You're lucky, because Earl will live forever. You will see his photo and hear his music, so thereby he lives. So sorry for your loss!

  • It's funny how I only ever heard this in the House of Pain song and in various tv shows that like to clip that first trumpet in the beginning. It's like the Amen Break.

  • esta rola la voy a usar en mi siguiente desecho

  • Love it!!

  • Peter Gunz and Lord Tariq sampled the beginning of this. Ha!

  • @KevinTheReaper I thought "House of Pain" sampled it the intro

  • @JPfromFlint Oh yeah, you're right, it was "Jump Around." I was thinking of the "Hips Don't Lie" and "Uptown Anthem" beginnings. I've never once heard this song on the radio and it's a miracle I've even heard it at all. Shaking one's tailfeather should only be associated with this song and definitely not weak ass Diddy and Badboy records.

  • @ Bob Relf... You know I LOVE this song... it's one of my favourites ever since you played it about Bud's house many years ago (Elbert Denny, Jr.) ~ (May he RIP) Hope all is well w/ you! God's Blessings to YOU! Love "Lynda"

  • PURE SOUL !!!!!!!!!

  • @hapzap13 You sure got that right...Pure Soul.

  • Heard this by chance in my shit New Mexico town some years ago. Thanks for running it here.

  • amazing sample... now you hear that intro in any reggaeton 'song'... what a shame

  • JUMP AROUND!

  • @donbanania yeap the intro...

  • wow, absolutely fab song. an era when tamla motown was in its prime :)

  • This 'senior' Brit' sez This one Still, tight even 2010

  • I remember dancing to this in the west end when I was a mod. Got any dubes!

  • @Wulfenstern, you're right Earl does look like Brad Pitt. Love this song. First heard it in the movie "The Women of Brewster Place." I was a kid.

  • Earl looks like brad pitts "soul" brother here. Check out the mod version by THe Action if you please, not halfbad.

  • this song kick ass

  • You are rite Grensley this song was sample by House of Pain in their debut song Jump Around. Especially the beginning the song with the Horns sounding off.lol

  • What I love about You Tube, is that there you are looking at some website or other and then Whammm!, a song comes into your head for no reason and you have got to play it. So what do you do???< go to You Tube to get your fix..

This was a hit when I was young pup, I'm in my 50's now so what the hell. Long Live You Tube!

  • im with you!

  • @mikelsok Are you rep for you tube?

You're so right Mikelsok. and then you find the song and before you know it you have 'remember' loads more too! and even discovered new songs to like and listen to. :-)

  • @mikelsok You hit it right on the head,,,,I was wondering about a Jr.Walker the other day and the wording in his version of Come see About me,,,and I ran to You Tube

  • originally on white whale records this song took off with the emergence of the Boss radio era and the Drake format.Bob and Earl very much like James and Bobby Purify were one hit wonders.

  • jump around?

  • of course.

  • @Grensley Yup!

  • I'm the cream of the crop, I rise to the top, I never eat a pig cause a pig is a cop lol

  • @crazydave2005 or better yet a terminator... like arnold schwarzinegger... tryina play me out like..as if my name was sega!

  • Hey Dalkey...your appreciation of a classic boss jam is excellent...and your generosity sharing it much appreciated from Bmore. Hoa binh.

  • The "Continental Room" in S.W. GA., '68, Billy and The Echo's did this number so well. The "Blue Eyed Soul Brother" Billy Jack Adkins could get do R&B with the best of them.

  • rest in peace lil pee wee, mumbles, gangster, lefty & lil froggy.

  • i remember cruizing to this jam with my homies in a 64 chevy wearing our brim hats.

  • Happy Days

  • oh Yes !!!

  • This was my mum's favourite song, thanks for posting it :) x

  • wife bought cd mostly boring but listened to this over and over i used to love soul music now i love soul music

  • you must be joking or young, most superb song going, stones have done it!

  • just shows we're not on the same wavelength if you think it's a commendation that the stones have done it. I hate their cover. seeing as you don't seem to understnd what I meant I'll spell it out for you. I love this song.

  • do not know where you get that from, glad you like the song

  • I was disgusted with the Stones doing this song and was being sarcastic. The Stones have done it? see?

  • Hey we are on the same wavelength after all. Forgive me for misunderstanding you.

  • thank you

  • The Stones version is an abomination. One of the worst covers, by any band, ever. A great(possible legendary) cover of this song is by the Fabulous Flippers. I think it's somewhere here on youtube. search it out.

  • if i was a boxer this would be my entrance tune

  • Deep R&B soul sounds.... doesn't get better or any more prime than this. King of the Hill song!

  • fuckin lov this tune man, check out the stones' version. it aint beter but its ok

  • you guys gotta listen to the Los Pericos version of this song

  • fook off fooker with that green shit fooker.

  • ok genius,

  • Ironic that it's the Harlem Shuffle, but the record is one of the greatest examples of California Soul.

  • produced & arranged by gene page and barry white

  • I love this song.

  • Lol

  • pity bob and earl split up

    such an amazing song

I suppose you had to be there

  • superb song, rarely played.

    The stones did murder it

  • je viens de découvrir ce titre sur un vieux vinyl. fabuleux ...

  • Pissed me off when I heard Mick Jagger butchering this classic.

  • Sounds reviewed the Stones version when it came out. Shortest, most honest review ever! Just 3 words...

    Murder most foul.

    says it all..

  • now that made me laugh...

  • thank you

  • deep...dark....mean and funky....WOW BABY

  • Better than Rolling Stones song

  • ? you young
