most people blow these up in 1 year.i have the older x205 version mines blew up right before the warranty was up my friend has an x305 same thing.its the video cards small intake solely from the bottom if you sit them on the bed or your carpet for a long period of time like any laptop it will blow just 10x faster.i know duh but alot of people get careless i was.since the repair 3 years ago its bulletproof.im on it now its used quite alot.

AVOIDThings have gone from bad to worse. I have noticed to make some games stable I need to clock the card down even further. I've been playing half life 2 stable at 396mhz memory and 373mhz core (any faster and it crashes). This is completely unacceptable. If I wanted a video card with half the power (original mem clock was 799mhz) I could have saved myself about $1000

Well I may have over exaggerated a little bit. My Toshiba Satellite L505-10X has a 2.1GHz processor whereas this is MUCH better. My laptop comes with a 400GB HDD but I installed a 500GB instead. Also my GPU is better than GeForce 9700M GT but it's just a bit worse than the 9700M GTS. In terms or ports, this thing monsters mine. Also the speakers, mine don't have the Harmon Kardon since I found them pointless.

@0xoxol0 Oh sorry, what I meant was is that I have very good desktop speakers so I just plug that into my laptop and use that. Actually the Harmon/Kardon speakers are THE best speakers you can get for any laptop. But the built in ones are fine I guess, as you should know, laptop speakers aren't very good in general but they get the job done fine.

Just to let you know I'm pending between Toshiba and Acer, and also between medium range and higher performance: I like to keep using the machine for a few years without it feeling too slow (I don't mind playing a few games, even though I don't play much), yet I don't wan't to pay *too much*.

Say, I'm guessing you've watched quite some videos (movies etc..) on yours. I'd like to know how it performs when you play HD material, both hardware accelerated in native video-/media apps and in the browser (flash). I'd like to know info both for 720p and 1080p.

LOL it's ok, well for your HD questions. Even machines with dedicated Intel HD graphics can play HD videos well, so mine definitely plays 720p perfectly on YT and it should also play with HD DVD's as well and I'm 100% sure it'll play 1080p perfectly as well as my GPU is more than capable. So again, most laptops on the market today can play HD videos normally.

BTW, I was considering HP laptops as well but idk if u know but they have the highest failure rates of all windows laptops.

Of course I have known for years that Asus is among the very top mobo manufacturers, but as for laptop your information sure helps me drop including the consideration of acer and entirely decide between Toshiba and Asus.

I have Q701 ... Bought it almost year ago , its the 'worst' in x305 series and I played , I still can play all new games on high settings, almost ... without AA and vsync :) no problems with it , still runs like new . no overheating ...

Dude these things are over priced, if you want a computer that has twice the power for $400 cheaper look up the Alienware M17... That thing is a monster, it has: Quad, CrossFireX Dual Graphics, 8GB 1066MHz DDR3, 1TB HD. The Qosmio only has a dual core, 4 gigs of DDR3 ram, 9700 GeForce 512 mb graphics card.. So it's up to you but if you want to save $400 and get double the performances get the M17

Bought this laptop in September of 2008, and use it every day for hours. Never overheats. For games, I use it with the n52te speed pad and a Logitech gaming mouse. It is power hungry so I also have an external Notebook Battery if there are no outlets around. Its great for watching DVDs or streaming internet movies through the HDMI port on a 32" LCD. I recently switched from Vista 32 to Vista 64, because I can, and my gaming went up. Now I'm sometimes accused of hacking and I don't hack. Love it!

Hi! I have a Qosmio X300 too and I'm very satisfied with it. I love the red design because it's not the same boring design as on the most other notebooks. Furthermore the notebook is really fast and I can play all my games on it - Great! But I can't agree that the notebook is overheating. No problems as yet and the notebook is "cool". I don't want another notebook anymore.
