Xavi is one of those players that need specific players around him to play well, he needs messi, pedro, villa and dani alves all to make the great runs they do in order to create a chance for xavi to pass to them. I am a huge Xavi and barca fan, but i agree that zidane is better than xavi in many ways. though i have to say that xavi fits better in barcelona's style. zidane likes to keep the ball, and barcelona and spain passes a lot.
But zidane isn't better than messi to be honest. messi is a lot more efficient. zidane was skillful and played very beautiful game, but he was not a player that was going to win the most goals nor most assist in competitions, messi is always up there to win both.

@LaMiGrAFrAnK messi is great because he plays on the team made up of world cup winners, that's the bottom line. when defenders play against barca they are constantly bewildered as to whom they should defend against, which means that there are spaces for messi to operate, that's a fact. observe barca games closely, the opposition defensemen look panicky and mesmerised constantly, not just cause there is messi, but cause there are world cup winners - villa, pedro, xavi, iniesta to name a few.

@kimranchik I can agree to that. Iniesta is very good in his own way. I definitely agree with what your saying in Barcelona's defense. They barely have to do anything where as the defense for Argentina is more active and they lose more because they get tired throughout the game. Odyssey is wrong.

Zidane was only great in the world cup of 98. Because he didnt play in the other matches, (exept the semi final) he was unvisiable. Messi is a much better player. He is just 24 and still improving. You need to compare them at the highest level. And the CL is a higher level then the World Cup. You cant deny that.

@19messi33 i can u say ziziou was only good in wc 1998??? in 1998 he was champions league finalist with juventus, lead italy to seria champions, and voted the best player of the year in italy, then in the wc summer he carried france to 1st ever wc glory, then he was euro 2000 best tournament player, won euro 2000, then ucl, and more. if u watched wc 06, see he carried france to final with his awesome performance, and france team was old. you are clearly new to football.

Barthez, Thuram, Blanc, Lizarazu, Viera etc. with that defence Messi would win 3-4 WC's already. Zidane won just 1 Champions League title in his 17 years long career. it clearly shows that he can not carry his teams, he was just lucky that he played in frace-98 squad and won WC. i didnt even mention that he played the WC in his own France stadiums..

Without a world class goalkeeper, without world class defenders, without world class midfielders you can win only Z.Blatter's balls. If you compare France 98 team's entire squad (including strikers) were better than Argentina 2010 team's players. @odissey505 i am not sure i agree with you about 1998 france's strikers better than 2010 argentina's offensive line. in 2010 argentina had the likes of tevez, higuain, di maria with aguero and milito on the bench, compare that with a nobody by the name of guivarche (rings a bell, no doesnt, well i thought so too) or djorkaeff or dugarry is nowhere near tevez or higuain's quality imho. you are overdoing it amigo. like i said i give you france's defensive corpse were solid unlike argentina's.

@odissey505 well if you look at the records of 1998 world cup, you will see henry did only start the group stage games (only two of them actually, an opener against south africa and the second game against s. arabia) and a round of 16 against paraguai. in the qurters, semi and final games he was subbed in. let's not overexaggerate his impact, no question he's been a great striker throughout his career, but 1998 was not his coming out party. it was zidane's without whom france would lose final.

@odissey505 jorkaeff was abysmal in the final game. watch the final game and you will see how many clear chances he's blown, being fed by zizou. him and guivarche were miserable. without zidane, they would struggle to score against the perennial champions brazil. i don't know why are you in denial, zidane is the story of 1998 no question about it. he led the france to victory. the entire french strike force comepletely disappeared in the final match. they were abysmal. watch the game!!!

@odissey505 Odissey to be honest with you, he proved himself both at country (most importantly) and club, ucl title is a testament to it. not for nothing madridistas worldwide love him and consider him a true legend of real madrid alongside other madrid greats. so to call his club career a failure is a stretch to say the least and disrespectful of one of the greates players of all time. like i said most real madrid fans and indeed fans of football worldwide dont think he is a failure at club.

@odissey505 i will take zidane's international trophey cabinet over messi's club tropheys any time. zidane after the year 2002 when he lifter copa dei campioni had nothing else to prove to the world, he's won it all and he really didn't have much of a motivation to play, there's such a thing in sports called championship hangover, he even retired from international duty thereafter and when he did france was disasterous, but when he was back france had a renaissance and that is not an accident.

He won 2 italian seria champion which was the hardest league in the world and most defensive, went to 2 champions league final without them, won everything in italy, then won ucl in real madrid, la liga which was quite competitive era. his club career is not a failure. also he took bordux to uefa cup final. Its zidane moved to different clubs and was successful. he was voted best in italy, and la liga and lique 1.

You can clearly see how this guy carried old grandad france to the final in 2006, france were poor as a team in 2006 but zidane shined in the crucial games against spain, brazil, portugal, 3 top hard teams and italy apart from the headbutt he would of lead them to win their 2nd wc in their history. Ziziou reminded me of maradona.

I am a huge Xavi and barca fan, but i agree that zidane is better than xavi in many ways. though i have to say that xavi fits better in barcelona's style. zidane likes to keep the ball, and barcelona and spain passes a lot.
But zidane isn't better than messi to be honest. messi is a lot more efficient. zidane was skillful and played very beautiful game, but he was not a player that was going to win the most goals nor most assist in competitions, messi is always up there to win both.
