  • Haha! If people are bashing on this composing, they simply just want to have something to say despite having nothing. This is as original as it get's in the 21'st century!

  • I hear Influence from Rachmaninoff in this <333

  • Comment removed

  • Exogenesis, I hear you whispering... :o)

  • this are my life goals (and this is true)

    1. attend to a muse gig

    2. talk to matt chris dom and morgan

    3. learn to play guitar as matt does

    4. learn to play piano as matt does

    5. learn to compose music as matt does

    6. learn to sing as matt does

    im 17

do i have enough time to be like mi idol matthew james bellamy?

  • @owtinoz 1. Cool

    2. Fair enough

    3. Find your own individual style, don't just copy someone else.

    4. ^

    5. You can't just compose like another musician. Everyone writes music differently/has different methods etc.

    6. Singing is about ability. You can be taught to control your voice but that still doesn't mean you'll have the range, power, tone or accent of Matt's voice. Also, again, be original.

I'd say Matt is my idol musically as well but I don't aim to BE him.

  • Piano thing not Matt's concerto.

  • Beethoven already had his own style around 1800, the "heroic period". By the later period when was stone deaf, the 9th smphony, the Missa Solemnis, the late piano sonatas and the last string quarters were way beyond his time period.

  • I hate it when top comments are replies to other comments

  • I've just listened to Piano Thing and now I'm listening to this. I'm sure they're the same. :|

  • @Glitzarr its probably because This = Piano Thing

  • this is so beautiful. thank the lord for matthew bellamy

  • It sounds like part of this made it into Exogenesis Part 2

  • the two are similar. but the piano thing was a one time improv

  • Isn't this song called "Piano Thing" ?

  • @GreenTwiMuseDay12 No. That's a different composition.

  • how many albums has muse released and what are the names of their albums theyve released??

  • @vegiaemex Showbiz, Origin of Symmetry, Hullabaloo, Absolution, Black Holes and Revelations, The Resistance. You can look it up on Wikipedia.

  • @vegiaemex 5 studio albums: Showbiz, Origin of Symmetry, Absolution, Black Holes and Revelations, and The Resistance.

They've also released two live albums: Hullabaloo and HAARP.

  • wow nice

  • Influenced Ocean Etude Op 25 No 12 Frédéric Chopin

  • I think I came a little.

  • Please gimme the note (:

  • Id like to see Thom Yorke play this lol.

  • This is Piano Thing. :P

  • Where do you get these songs, paris111191?!

  • This is excellent. romantic meets... jazz I guess.

  • kalinixta c olous sto Fb meta apo afto !!

  • He's such a atalent, everytime i hear this i start to cry :')

  • sensational

  • such talent

  • To the one who disliked this: In this very moment, a team of highly trained and extremely bloodthirsty ninjas are making their way to your residence. Good luck.

  • @Jimmi2412 aahaha lolz ... indeed

  • @Jimmi2412 Let's just hope he's not the bearded ninja. Because that guy prawns all.

  • I thought this was Piano Thing. Does it have two titles? Cause I think it's the same piece of music.

  • @V4mPiRezZZ It seems most people are deriving the title from a fan-made album of b-side Muse songs entitled "Do We Need This", named after one of their songs. This song was included as a part this album (or rather a shorter version of it) under the title "Matt's Concerto". Whether or not the actually title of the song is "Matt's Concerto" or not, I don't know for sure, but It does sound better than "Piano Thing" if you ask me :]

  • @weatherman102 I agree :)

  • @weatherman102 Matt's concerto and Piano thing its the same lol

  • Its like he has three hands....I don't know how he does it. I hope he doesn't stop creating masterpieces like this.

  • piano thing

  • Fuck If I could play like this ..... <3

  • so beautiful.

  • For just a little tiny bit around 1:40 1:41 ish, it sounded like the piano roll at the beginning of Feeling Good. Idk, maybe it's just me

  • Oh I love it ♥ it

altough its the same then the piano thing i love it

Matt is not just a brilliant singer or something...he is a god at the Piano, too

and its from him...thats great :)

  • Is there any difference between this and Piano Thing

  • no theyre the same song its just a different name, i believe it was called matt's concerto BEFORE they put it on cd then it got renamed piano thing

  • i'm a little confused becuase both Matt's Concerto and Piano Thing appear off Muse's "B-Sides and Rarities" compilation as seperate tracks

  • "B-Sides and Rarities" isn't an official muse compliation, someone else put it together

  • That was gorgeous. I'm reminded a little of Debussy for some reason. Going on my playlist.

  • is called ''piano thing''.

  • I looooooooove when Matt's playing the piano...... he can do anything, this musical genius!! and if he would fart in my face i would still think he's sexy haha !

  • haha ubertroll13!

  • ▬▬▬

    MUSE

    ▬▬▬

    From Lisboa, Portugal

  • This is called 'piano thing', it was reliased as a b-side on new born CD 1

  • UberTroll13, whatever you think about origanility, you can't deny that Matt is an incredible composer and performer, and amazingly talented. Just because he's influenced by composers from the Romantic period, all major composers were influenced by each other, this is how music develops.

  • I think he ís himself, but with just a piano.

  • @lodesfachgymraeg His name is ubertroll13 for a reason.

  • In my opinion you can clearly hear Matt's piano influences like Rachmaninoff and Chopin. Matt would be a famous and legendary composer in the era of romantism.

  • In the begining Beethoven coppied Mozart. Do you think that Beethoven was unoriginal?

  • @miouzz92 Pardon me, but I don't speek French. Unfortunately...

  • @vanillabulba many composers of the end of the second decade (longer in the XVII-XIX centuries) had copied, flew them to the compositions .... no forget that they were courting, across Europe, as now, that you add to the genius of each, their own touch to them, the innovative idea ... so how condider Matt Bellamy ? a rock clasical musician, a clasical musician, a composer ? i think all of this ...no ? Piano thing, exogenesis, how consider it ? its his own compositions

  • @miouzz92 Oh, yes. I agree with you. There is no doubt that Bellamy is an inovative artist.

  • @vanillabulba how could beethoven copy mozart if he was deaf :S

  • @TopazArtLegends First of all, he turned deaf when he was already very old and close to his death (ofcourse he studied music in his early youth, not when he was old), second, Beethoven can actually read the notes and the music that Mozart or any other composer wrote. Is that enough for your answer or should I continue? Do more research before you make statements.

  • @vanillabulba all i did was make a comment, didnt expect wikipedia to reply me, gee

  • @vanillabulba

Nope, you're wrong. The amount of output that Rachmaninoff and Chopin put out compared to Matt Bellamy...there is no comparison. Without Rachmaninoff and Chopin, Matt couldn't play what he plays here. There is just so much of their influence in the music. I love Muse as much as you guys, but to say that he would've been legendary in that era is a wrong statement.

  • @naeem9 how do u know what he could have or could not have done back then?

  • @bobmyers1 Seriously? Because Matt Bellamy born now or 200 years ago would still be Matt Bellamy.

  • @naeem9 Who then is the Chopin of our era?

  • @diln5 Ludovica Einaudi

  • IS THIS PIANO THING?

  • yurp.

  • Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaah! :D

  • @jamesabrook It's called a grace note. I take it you don't play piano?

  • @LilyTheAnnoyance wow someone is a little weird going through the comments to a YEAR AGO. Also I do play the piano and yes it could be a grace note, but it sounds more like a little mistake. It fits quite nicely though.

  • @jamesabrook It's not strange to go through old comments. It was only a few pages back, anyway; it's not as if I had a lot to choose from. The majority of YouTubers reply to old comments, in my opinion, and if the original commenter doesn't like the reaction, he/she can ridicule the replier for taking the time to reply to such an old comment.

If it was a mistake, then they would have fixed it. Mistakes like that are not officially published with a single. It's a nice contrasting grace, though :)

  • wow!

is this matt playing the piano?

this is just wow, just soo great.... with a little bit of butterflies and hurricanes, hoodoo, and a little bit of sunburn?

anyway whoever is playing is a piano god.

and im almost sure its matt belamy!

  • It's Piano Thing, taken from the New Born Single #1. It is most definately Mr Bellamy playing =D. If anyone wants the sheet music, I have it, but it's a BITCH to learn. Muse are officially too good for words =]

  • I would like the sheet music :)

  • @flammabubble

May i have the sheet music for this? If you don't mind.. I would LOVE to learn this... Thank you ^_^

  • @flammabubble You still got that sheet music? I'd be my great pleasure to learn this piece.

Yeah, it sounds like a bitch to learn, but hey. It would be amazing to finish it.

I'm almost done with Apocalypse Please, and then I'm going to learn Neutron Star Collision. This goes on number three, if you could get that sheet music to me somehow :)

    Thanks,

    ~Lily

  • Rachmaninoff

  • do i hear arpeggios?

  • absolutley not.

  • Yup, lots of them.

  • does anybody know where i can find sheet music for this??? i want to learn it sooooo bad. D:

  • This is called piano thing, it was released on the new born single

  • i think u mean god :D

  • A god... they're all gods

  • goddess???!! He aint a girl

    Matts a freaking God!

  • wow

  • a little part of feeling good (haarp without effect) and of course B&H

  • Where on earth are people getting this from? Butterflies and Hurricanes and this both use arpeggios, chromatic scales and powerfully struck chords. So does most music from romanticism! There is nothing that similar between the two!

  • The reason why everyone keeps saying that is because MOST people dont listen to Classical and they would associate those things together as B&H I myself dont listen to Classical as much as i should, I would like some pointers though.

  • why isn't this called piano thing? ...

  • this is on the b-side collection: do we need this? and it's called Matt's Concerto...

    p.s. Matt Bellamy = god

  • this is piano thing, didn't realise it was called concerto too

  • i completly agree with u mat bellamy IS a god, atleast at the piano and eletric guitar.

like u said matt belllamy is a sinonim for piano/guitar god.

  • That's what I thought. It's not even a Concerto, there's no orchestra.

  • butterflies and hurricans is hidden in there :P

  • ....no it's not lol.

  • this sounds like it became the solo to butterflyies and hurricanes.

  • i think i can hear a bit of ruled by secrecy in there

the bit after 1.14 its not a lot but definately there

  • Can't get enough of the piano thing. This was truly a work of beautiful art.

  • Would absolutely love some of this sound on the new album. From what I hear there is a big possibility of a more classical touch too, so fingers crossed :)

  • ya itll have 3 seprate tracks on the new album of matt playing his piano like this

  • matt said he has been writing something massive for the last 4 years, i think it uses half an orchestra and i think hes doing most of it himself, maybe thats why its taking so long, i think it's been described as a three track symphony, but i dunno i just hear things so dont take my word for it it could just be rumours XD but ahh well we shall see in september =)

  • OMG, is there really gonna b a new album???

  • Yes.

  • Thank You!

    You just made my year!

  • :P It's totally awesome, can't wait for the new album.

  • dito, do u know wen it is comin out?

  • It's supposed to be out in September, followed by a UK and European Tour :D

  • Wow, thanks 4 the info.

  • theyll also be guests on the u2 american tour

  • and i have tickets for it! so excited to finally see muse live!

  • yeah they def said that they would get back to this...matt is suppose to be conducting his own symphony for it too...

  • is this not piano thing?

  • this is

  • he is very virtuoso and very young

  • Sonata not Concerto

  • For people who don't know it, this piece is called "Piano Thing" and it's a B-side of New Born...

  • This is lovely...^_^

  • yes!

  • <3 Magnifique

  • matthew bellamy is certainly not from this world....he is virtuoso to the extreme

  • if you listen to rachmaninov carefully you can definitely hear elements of his influence on matt's playing

  • you don't have to listen carefully at all. One listen to any of rach's piano concertos or most of his preludes will show how much he is influenced.

  • yes, very true, but i was listening once and heard the same exact progression as in "Space Dementia" tucked away in his C# prelude I believe, regardless, it's an awesome influence to have.

  • That's funny. . . I noticed the exact same thing in Rachmaninov's concerto #2, first movement and Space Dementia (which is what you are referencing I'm assuming). During the end of the chorus as it goes down in melody, as his line ends it follows the exact progression. I suspect it could've been inadvertant but it leaves you wondering. Love these guys either way though.

  • yeah, that's the one i meant, good catch

  • Matthew Belamy is my god

  • What is this from?

  • matt's THE piano master<3

  • piano thing
