your devotion to this little pup who you saved when he was only ten days old who then grew into this beautiful animal is really touching...and seeing him lick their noses just simply out of curiosity and love is so sweet.
Charlie breaks my heart. It is so wonderful- the way you take care of him and the joy he brings. I have coyotes at my house in Beverly Hills! and at my vacation place in the mountains. Since reading the daily coyote I am torn about my feelings for them. Terrified they will come after my three small pug dogs but mesmerized by the similarities they share with my dogs and sad that they struggle so.
Looks like Charlie might be licking snowflakes off of noses... I can see some of the commenters haven't got a clue who Charlie is and how he came to be. Oh well, the Internet is filled with dumbasses. Carry on Shreve and Charles.
On second thought, animals lick other animals as a way of socializing. I should have thought of that since I always have cats. They are always licking each other :)
LOL! I thought it looked like Charlie was tasting them too! Maybe that's a way to tell what another creature is, like a baby that puts everything in their mouth :)
Dear unimpressive deadnumbat: coyotes are hunters. It makes sense that they'd depend on prey to survive. Your connotation of 'kill' implies the coyote instinct is malicious which is of course anthropomorphizing them. They simply hunt to survive. If you're looking for a mammal that 'kills' with intention - look no further than homo sapien.
@simplysarah76: I was kind of kidding about the tasting. I think Shreve has the judgement and sensitivity to know whether keeping Charlie with her is the right thing or not. Charlie is sure appealling.
Also, you might not know that the choice was between letting Charlie drown and taking him in as a tiny orphan pup.
yes, you can never know if he would have drowned, but you have to agree a ten day old pup would have never made it alone. he would not have known how to even find food.
You can be sure he would've drowned; the people who shot his parents brought him to Shreve and said that she could try and raise him if she wanted, and otherwise they would go drown him in a bucket.

Yeah I would have to agree. Keep wild animal and domesticate it for entertainment purposes and...well...eventually instinct might just kick in. If suddenly the blog dissapears we know he couldn't take it anymore and ate her one night.
What kind of a monster do you think a coyote is? They're about the same size as an average dog. This is not a wolf we're talking about, and even those don't actually tend to kill people.

I was joking. Though I do not believe what this woman is doing is out of love for the animal (love for the almighty dollar is what it appears to be) and I do not agree with domesticating a wild animal....well that is my personal opinion. I grew up in a very remote area and am very familiar with coyotes. My opinion differs than yours. That does not make me uneducated or ignorant.
Sorry, humor is often hard to pick up on what with the texty nature of the internets. Been seeing a lot of other comments elsewhere from people who seemed to be serious about it. For the pet issue and whether it's workable or not, I wouldn't know.
Mankind wouldn't be where it is today without domesticated wild animals...cattle, horses, sheep, chicken, goats, pigs, etc. Not to mention dogs and cats.
Care to clarify your "love for the almighty dollar" comment? Going to her blog is free, and that is lots of Charlie and Eli everyday.
Have you actually bothered to look at her website? She's not charging money for any of this. Where does your "almighty dollar" bit come from? Do you have anything to back up that notion?
I'm surprised he lets you that close with the camera.
