Mr999haja said Johnny Cash wrote this song. He is completely wrong. Geoff Mack wrote both the original and American versions of this song. Johnny Cash did record the song (never a hit version, however) but he had nothing to do with writing either version. Mr999haja can call me all the times he wants, but he is still wrong and his immaturity makes his comments all the more sad. A few minutes of searching would prove to Mr999haja that Australian Geoff Mack is the writer of both versions.
The Lucky Starr version was, indeed, the very first version of the Geoff Mack penned song. Geoff wrote the song in 1959, but it wasn't recorded by anyone until Lucky recorded it in May of 1962 for Festival Records. The U.S. hit version came out by Canadian born Hank Snow after Geoff wrote the U.S. lyrics as well as the original Australian lyrics. A Lucky Starr American version came out in the states in October of 1962, but by then the Hank Snow version had already caught on. Great both ways.
@KhanTezcan I can assure you that I don't know whether it is Ettalong mate, this vid took so blinking long to make and the pics took a long time to find. Have a look at Rolf's English place name one. I had mastered the speed of the song/pic add by the time I had had a go at thisw one
Not dissing Johnny Cash or Hank Snow but for me, this version is better. The aboriginal names of the townships seem to roll off the tounge better and create more of a "rhythm" when spoken fast (and I'm American)
@janeandbellarock6789 it maybe not that version but it IS the original version where he goes to Darwin, Gin Gin, Deniliquin, Muckadilla, Wallumbilla, Boggabilla, Kumbarilla and many more Aussie places which sound so much cooler than ... Reno, Chicago, Fargo, Minnesota .... get mah drift? ;~)
Sure like the names of the towns in Australia. The towns look like they would all be a nice place to visit. Thanks for the video, Georgia. To my favorites. Hope Hank Snow won't be upset with me. he! he!
I dont get the ending, Hes like "Okay mate you've been every place except one, and ya dont need my help to get there" I dont get that, whats that mean?
@roseanne74 true but ... isn't the only place he hasn't been possibly Hell, and perhaps the guy is that bad that he is going to hell without any one's help like
I stand corrected ... sorry, it won't happen again ... but my excuse, if excuses are allowed, is that I was seeing double by the time I was getting to the end of Photoshopping that lot :~] haha lol
It was all going so well and then it ended with a clown. Ten months and £20,000 of therapy down the bloody drain - I'll have to book up a trip to the trick cyclist pronto after that. I've been to Jindabyne too, but I'll have to take another trip to see the rest!
I think Hank already knew, as his version was written by Geoff Mack (the guy who originally wrote and performed the song in 1959), after Lucky Star made it famous enough to be wanted in the States. ^^;
Sorry to hear that we saw a lot of the destruction by those fires on the news too many deaths and displacement its so different over here a few inches of snow, and were blinkin pulled to a stop !!!
Blimey mate ... your very very right ... what a cock up, don't know quite what to do as it has a pic of a Rolf album at the start, do you think I should pull it or what? I will definitely change the title ... thanks for telling me ... I will now do a furious search for Rolf's version ... I noticed he mentions towns in England :~(
this is fantastic...you did a great job with presentation!!!
